SocialParadox Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 So as I said, my friend has abandoned all pretext of honor and is simply spams Tager's command throw. Me being Ragna, I often am caught by them in the middle of my combos. How can I exploit his spammage and punish him? Now, I'm not blaming Ragna or calling Tager OP. I just find it so annoying doing a Gaunlet Hades, deciding not to complete it with the secondary attack, and falling into an impossible to escape 360 Throw. Also, if anyone knows a good Ragna Tactics against Tager/Other Characters video, I'd greatly appreciate it. Or if that fails what's a character that eats nooby Tagers for Breakfast? I know BB's pretty balanced, but it'd help.
Mumm-Ra Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 If he's doing 360 through your blockstrings it means that you're at fault. Learn to be less predictable, or do safer blockstrings, ending your blockstrings with GH is basically asking for him to 360 your ass.
killatrooper Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Ragna has several quick, safe, well ranged pokes at his disposal. Just jump a lot and keep using those (5b, 5c, 2c, j.c, etc) until you can hit confirm. And DON'T use unsafe moves like hells fang and g.hades unless comboing, or you have heat to rc. If all else fails, spam ID. It goes through Tager's command grabs. I don't play either char though, so you should be checking the matchup threads for these things.
farranpoison Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Jump more. Alternatively, go to to matchup threads and stop sucking.
Edalborez Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 It would help if you said when else he gets you with 360s. If you're dropping combos and he's getting you that way, learn/practice some actual combos. If you're getting hit out of blockstrings vary it up/jump. If you're getting hit mashing Inferno Divider on wakeup, stop doing it. "Stop sucking" is kind of blunt but honestly it's the best way to sum this up. 360 mashing only works on people who suck. Watch videos of your matchups, learn what they can do, learn what YOU can do, and get better. If it's just GH he gets you on... stop doing it (as much/in the same situations you keep doing them)? Sorry, not a Ragna expert. But in any case you would have been better off asking in the Ragna section. And not in its own thread.
SocialParadox Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 So thanks for the kind and subtle words...Well thanks for the heads-up on the matchup threads which I forget to check into.
kenja0 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Play Tager yourself and spam 360s. That's what I would do every time a friend I knew would get smug when he won a match against my not mains using Tager. Ignoring all his true skill and advanced combos, I win every Tager vs Tager match because dumb. I also do this for any fighting game's grapple characters and win those as well. Against smart/competitive players with honor, this doesn't work. But seeing as your friend is a noob and dishonors his character, fuck it.
bluerogue Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Tager needs to take a lot of risks and be able to set things up to be an effective character. Jumping isnt always the answer, as a tager can start adapting and throwing up blind colliders when he expects you to jump. I'd recommend keeping the fight farther away and spamming 5b/5c pokes mid range over and over again. If you see a hit go through, you go for a combo either belial 5b into 6a belial edge setup if you were closer, or your hells fang combo if the hits too far. You should also be doing 'safe' blockstrings against him, by doing a faulty blockstring you leave yourself open to more than a 360 by a tager. Characters will retaliate by making you go through one of THEIR block strings, and leave you open to mixup/take out primers. Understanding hit confirm/altering your attacks depending on whether or not theyre blocking/zoning is a huge part of bb play, and learning these concepts can vault you to a higher level of bb play. These ideas are not only applicable in the tager matchup, but are applicable against all characters.
AdamNW Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 If he's always doing it after Gauntlet Hades, why not go for a throw after that?
dragontamer Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Apologies for the elitism here on Dustloop. You'll get used to it, and shame on the other players here for boosting their own frail egos rather than help this guy out. Honestly, where else is he going to ask? This is a valid question in a valid forum. His problem is well described and he talks in complete sentences. He understands he needs help, swallowed his ego and asked a damn question. The least we could do for him is answer it damn it. So as I said, my friend has abandoned all pretext of honor and is simply spams Tager's command throw. I know BB's pretty balanced, but it'd help. Now, the more important thing: you are -11 frames after a Gauntlet Hades. This means that 360B is inescapable. This is the risk you take when you use Gauntlet Hades. Stop doing it if your friend knows how to block. Instead, use lows (like 3C or 2B) and combo off of them. Next: Ragna has the advantage over Tager. Stay outside of Tager's range, and poke him to death. Work your combos and understand your opponent's defense. EVERY character, except Noel / Tsubaki / Rachel, has an advantage over Tager. Ragna has more range on his attacks, is faster, and your combos do more damage: what more can you ask for? Yes, your combos do more than 720C. So hit practice mode!!
Zeromegaman Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I didnt ask the question and you gained love from me. I love you Dragon Tamer.
cookiehours Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Go Dragon Tamer. Anyway, this is very sound advice and I will use your advice too, except that I main Lambchops. But this also helps me. Thanks.
Yggjrasil Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 just use footies against your friend, well spaced 5bs and 5cs. If you really want to get up close, make sure you make your blockstrings short and use Jump cancel able pokes like 6a and 3c. other than that just use 5B,5C, Hells Fang on counter hit to space yourself, after you do this a couple of times, I'm sure your friend will get the message and stop mashing like a retard.
Remiri Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 more like 5c 2c etc, etc, 5c(hit) 3c DOUBLE BERIAL or 5c(hit) 3c BLOOD KAIN jump! DDDDDDDDDDD
ZONG_one Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 They aren't joking. @Remiri Except if you're spacing right, your 5C will not gatling to 3C, you'll be too far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7Kcsws280M
Blade Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 If you're dealing with Scrub Tagers who think it's safe to 360/Throw after everything...you could try jumping after blocked Hell's Fang (first part, unless it's IB'd)...oh sure, LOGICALLY this does not work (due to minus frames on block), but it's definitely a mind game that does work on random occasions, it's won me matches, I'm not even joking.
Zidane Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Did you just say.... Logically... Know what, nope. I'm out.
notsogos Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 yo why is blade still allowed to post im not trolling this time
killionaire Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 yo why is blade still allowed to post im not trolling this time Unfortunately I don't have the answers to the inquiries you seek.

Here's the flaw in your reasoning: Tager has 8 frames to punish you. 5 frames to buffer, and 3 frames of extra space to hit the B button after a 360 after the blocked Hell's Fang. He has 13-frames to punish you on instant-block. Sure, there are lots of newbies who cannot do this, but there are far more competent players who can (even online Tagers are good enough to do this 100% of the time). Unfortunately, assuming your opponent is an incompetent n00b who can't buffer 360Bs while in blockstun will make you lose battles in the long term. Learn to play against the experts, so that you yourself can become an expert. Assuming incompetence on the opponent's side will make you lose. And yes, I'd have to say that a Tager who can't punish Gauntlet Hades is pretty damn incompetent.
Yggjrasil Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Did you just say.... Logically... Know what, nope. I'm out. lol I was about to say, Don't do it man, its not even worth your time. It's WAY TOO EASY.
