dummyacct7 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Why play Blazblue if you aren't going to press D? Many Hakumen players didn't realize they had a D button... But I digress.
Urichinan Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Alright, well I'll wait until we confirmation about whether or not you need to dash before I add the combo.
HiagoX Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Alright, well I'll wait until we confirmation about whether or not you need to dash before I add the combo. Gyuudon didn't include any dashes in the combo notation. So I'd say you don't need it. If you do need it, just add it to the combo when we confirm it.
Cirno Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Yeah, that's fine. It's not like we can practice it yet anyway.
Hurricane Rev Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Why use Platinum if you aren't going to use her items? Why play Arakune if you aren't going to curse your opponent? Why play Noel if you don't ever use chain revolver? Why play Blazblue if you aren't going to press D? Platinum can win a match without her items/pressing the D button. Yes, it does help with Platinum's game, ALOT but she doesn't really need it to win IMO. Also, Some people just don't want to use it (which I don't know why). Platinum D moves are different to Arakune, Noel and some other characters D moves. Most of the cast D moves really need it for their combos which platinum doesn't really have to use it for that seeing how her D moves are base around her items.
Danzai Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Platinum loses a huge element in her overall game if you don't use items. Platinum CAN be played without items, but they're still an important part of her strategy. Playing Platinum without items is like using only half of the character. Items can really help Platinum out where she would otherwise be in a pinch.

Chaoschao222 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Like Haku, he doesn't need to counter you...
Hurricane Rev Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Like Haku, he doesn't need to counter you... Yeah but it doesn't really change haku's game that much
Starlight777 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 That Platinum needs to practice anyway. The whole time I was watching I was thinking "use 214D if you cant use the pan properly, why hold on to it if you don't know what the heck to do with it!" It's like he forgot about the D button and that he could discard items.

Most of the cast D moves really need it for their combos which platinum doesn't really have to use it for that seeing how her D moves are base around her items. I'm not arguing if it's physically possible to play the character without using items. That much is obvious. Hell, you can play the whole game without pressing any buttons but D, but it isn't going to get you very far. Not to mention you're sapping a good 60% of the fun out of the character if you don't use their drive. The factor that truly makes them unique in this particular fighting game. Also; Pan? Hammer? Platinum most certainly uses her drive in combos. Which, of course, wasn't my point at all. There's more to this game than combos, and more to everyone's drive than combos.
Danzai Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 You really need to get a grasp on not only the fundamentals of the game itself down first, but also the basics of your character before you start worrying about combos. There's all kinds of combos you can do, but if you don't have the basics down, then they don't do you much good.
Hurricane Rev Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Cirno: I don't think you understood my post or my overall point. Also, there were some things that you said which I didn't even say or I already known all of those stuffs. I would reply back to your post but I'm tired and It will go round in circle. So, let just end it there, shall we? Danzai: Was that post for me?
TD Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 everyone is right. plat SHOULD be using her drive (If for no other reason, it's hella fun). HOWEVER one cannot expect too much from a week playing a new character. the verdict? give it time. there isnt much we can do, folks! l havent seen anyone abuse swallow moon yet. hell, have l even seen it used? l still havent seen it or foreign melody. =/
Danzai Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I've seen Swallow Moon used sporadically. Sometimes it's only for a second and you won't really see it if you don't pay attention. I think people are still trying to figure out what to do with that move. I haven't seen Foreign Melody yet as far as I remember. Was that post for me? Nah. Cirno mentioned there being more to the game than combos, so I just made a general statement.
Konton Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 From what it LOOKS like, swallow moon is being used in air to ground blockstrings to sneak in more overheads and throw off instant blocking. However, it kind of looks like it might cancel the recovery of some of her attacks.
TD Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 hmm, l have heard that people have been tking swallow moon for overheads. l dont know how great this is since l dont know the startup or recovery frames for it. like you said it may just be a use for recovery cancelling and (gimmicky?) overheads. l also hear it's a bit controllable. but im really interested in mami circular. that move is so dangerous anywhere near the corner... man, l cant wait to see her fully exploited.
Yggjrasil Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 oh you guys, D is the only way you play Blazblue. Try playing Lambda vs Ragna without D swords.
LunaKage Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Try playing Noel without drives. like Noel vs. Tager.
Cirno Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Cirno: I don't think you understood my post or my overall point. Well, your 'point' changed a few times during the conversation, so yeah I might have missed the transition somewhere. I'm fine with ending the discussion, though. On the topic of Swallow Moon, aside from the normal air to ground extra overheads approach, I've seen someone IAD into it, jab, and instantly land for a unbelievably quick overhead. Looked faster than 2D > j.b with Rachel. Loving the versatility with it, and just about everything else she has. ( ´∀`)
HiagoX Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Try playing Noel without drives. like Noel vs. Tager. Try playing Bang without his Drive. Oh wait, you actually can.
Yggjrasil Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) I think practicing May blockstrings on GGAC is a pretty creative way of trying to grasp how Platina`s mix-up works for now. Edited December 15, 2010 by Yggjrasil
Hurricane Rev Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) l havent seen anyone abuse swallow moon yet. hell, have l even seen it used? l still havent seen it or foreign melody. =/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLaVQ0tXdgc#t=6m4s @9:54, Platinum does swallow moon. Cirno said it all really. I think practicing May blockstrings on GGAC is a pretty creative way of trying to grasp how Platina`s mix-up works for now. Yep, that is what i've been doing as well. Halcyone3 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Try playing Bang without his Drive. Oh wait, you actually can. u're not playing bang right unless u FRKZ, real talk. srsly whats this talk of using drives or not? some characters depend less on drive than others, but who really cares how strong they are without them? fact is they are always going to be usable, and if u are not using them, u will be less effective than someone who does, period.
moofpie Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Foreign Melody has been used quite a bit in the past few videos. It's the move that looks like a ground version of Air Persia. The latest Platinum video shows it being used a lot. Don't think you can follow it up midscreen without rapid canceling.
