Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Except stubborn idiot A tells random local guy B about his wrong beliefs, convinces him to play dumb, he makes a DL account, he posts more stupid shit and etc. You can just kill the root of the problem by banning ( which i'm not even suggesting for a first offense; This is Blade's like 29084398th though ) and save the "community" from having to adopt a new down syndrome baby. Not trying to sound harsh or throw people to the wolves, which is apparantly what we would do if we just banned people, but come fucking on. It's 2010. Why is stupid even more rampant in the fighting game community? Get the fuck out. I agree with this guy.

Objectively is the key word here. If they're just a noob and need some correction, people can correct them. But if it's someone who just keeps going on and on, why not just have a mod come down and tell them to stop posting that stuff in the thread, or get an infraction? End of story, done and done. I mean, the mods would know if it's just a guy who needs some help or someone posting genuinely bad information. After all, it's not a matter of opinion in that case since it's objectively bad, right? And if they want to keep thinking that, that's cool, but that doesn't mean they have to post about it. That's just a fact. People who continue to abuse the boards like it's their lifeline may require a banhammer, but I'm under the impression that our moderators and more experienced players do an excellent job of discouraging such people in the first place.

Oh, that thread. I remember now. I don't think I infracted the first couple of posts (wherein you made valid, if angry, points) before it finally tail-spinned into a self-fueling hatefest, but it's been a while and I don't have a great memory. You're right, though, I didn't handle that thread well, and I was reprimanded for it. I haven't done anything like that until the aforementioned Blade thread, wherein it was far more deserved (but still overridden anyway). Lesson learned? Infracting an entire thread is overkill, on top of being a waste of my time. I wouldn't count on it happening again.

shtkn Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 i implemented a policy where if you get enough infractions you are automatically tempbanned. how many infractions does it take you may ask? well each infraction is worth 1 point, and if you get 5 points, you get banned for a week. infractions disappear after a set amount of time (depends on the type) i can change these values / policy if ppl disagree with it and offer solutions. of course for extraordinary cases of stupid, we can take banning measures and whatnot more quickly

It would take someone extremely dense to not get the hint five times in a row. Unless of course you hand out multiple infractions...
