Tomogawa Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Hi...new to Carl and can i ask how do they do that super fast air glide with Carl? I usually do IAD+air grab but I noticed it's not as fast as I saw in videos...so back to my question, how do you do that super fast air glide? Thanks...
Marisa Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) Where does a beginner begin with the least beginner friendly character in the game? If BB is your first fighter, check out my post in the rather misspelled Beginner advice thread here. It's not the most exciting process, but it will make it much easier to play and win if you follow it. Hi...new to Carl and can i ask how do they do that super fast air glide with Carl? I usually do IAD+air grab but I noticed it's not as fast as I saw in videos...so back to my question, how do you do that super fast air glide? Thanks... You don't have to IAD, any airdash will work. Airdash > j2C throw. You have to cancel the j2C within the first couple frames or your forward momentum is completely stopped. You want to do it very early in the airdash as well for maximum effectiveness. Do note that as of the current loketest, glides have been removed entirely and this ability may not be available in CS2Extend. Edited September 16, 2011 by Marisa
Tomogawa Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Thanks for the info Marisa, still having troubles with the allecan too....like if I'm in the first player, then I do a cross-up j2c, in what direction should I do 214C? 1st player or 2nd player side? Not really worried about the changes for CS2Extend yet since it hasn't come out in our country...it will be like at the end of the year or so? For now I would like to get better at Carl...Thanks again!
[SpA]Relentless Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Hello Carl players, I got a question and was wondering if you could help me out. I recently had an argument with a friend where he said that Carl gets a legit (non-bluebeat) 1,4-1,6k combo from a green burst (!) that leads to the unblockable. I was under the impression that the proration of green bursts is so bad that you barely get 100dmg with Carl at most before the opponent can tech. Another player said he saw it when Carl did it to him. I had 1,6k combos from Carl being performed on me from a dead angle, but I can't believe you can do a similar thing from a green burst. Do you know of such a combo?

It's not the most exciting process, but it will make it much easier to play and win if you follow it. While I am not a complete beginner at BB, I am more in your boat when you started CT. Not taking all those fundamentals seriously, I understand the mechanics; bursts, barrier and meter, proration but counter assaults and rapids I have been gracefully skirting around. I really lack the fundementals... my blocking is mediocre, my spacing is no existent and I find my hit confirm to be desired as well. Looks like I have a lot to learn before I even start Carlling.

It's a pretty nice way to turn the tide.
Akira-Shiro Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Lls what the hell is with all the random new carls,, im happy people are starting to get into him but O.o why now

It's a pretty nice way to turn the tide. Well, as I said I knew it was possible from a CA but I can't believe it works from a Green Burst too since the proration is a lot worse. I'd really like to see a video of it starting from a Green Burst.
Rishtopher Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Lls what the hell is with all the random new carls,, im happy people are starting to get into him but O.o why now I'm telling you it's Relius, he's got everyone all curious for Carl now :P Or it might be that once you've played everyone, just learn Carl, because why not? He's the hardest one to learn so it makes sense that he'd be the last one to get picked once you've got all the fundamentals and matchups down, right?

I assumed it did since I pulled it off online and blamed lag for the blue beat.
njmamm Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 I'm telling you it's Relius, he's got everyone all curious for Carl now :P More like, "I might as well get my shit down for Carl now so when Relius comes out, I'll already've gotten some experience."
Rishtopher Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 More like, "I might as well get my shit down for Carl now so when Relius comes out, I'll already've gotten some experience." In all honesty, I'm expecting to get my ass handed to me by Relius players (aka, former Carl players I guess) since he seems easier to player from the (very little) footage I've seen. I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard that his damage output seems pretty good so far too. Guess we'll be waiting for the next loketest. Hmmmm, I'm gonna have to put in some extra practice so I have Carl mastered when Relius is here too actually lol
Mascarpone Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Carl and Relius i think will be very different characters. Relius seems to have more rush down capabilities (certainly not a rush down character, mind you, but he looks like he'll play more offensively.) While carl posses his very own mini-corner. I think they both have/will have deadly set ups and excellent head games but Baring the fact that they both have mega-maid dolls i feel like they will be quite different from one another. Also: lawl at the relius rape-chamber astral finish. good lord c.c At least loc test info is now slowly trickling in again~ lets see what they've tweaked with our dear puppet wielding pedo-bait :D
Osmond Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 I'm telling you it's Relius, he's got everyone all curious for Carl now :P Relius? I am not sure I will play him. He does look very Eddie-ish (I can smell the corner loops now), not so much of a puppeteer as he is a pokemon trainer to me. But I certainly did not take an interest in Carl because of him. ` Or it might be that once you've played everyone, just learn Carl, because why not? That is more like it, I have liked Carl since CT but never had the nads to pick him up. I have tried all the other characters I liked, Noel, Hakumang, Rachel, valkenhayn and even Rambda but nothing really stuck to me like Tager did. I figured I am not getting any younger the GAME certainly is not getting any younger, I might as well stop procrastinating and get to it. His gameplay istaking me some getting used (I keep forgetting you can do imputs for Ada while Carl is in mid animation for another attack and what not) but I think I am willing to work for him. Besides...I love his theme SO MUCH
Akiro Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I leave the Carl section for a week and we have like 3893893 new Carls
The Noble Clap Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 About time, I blame Relius for making people remember Carl is in this game.
JG Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 About time, I blame Relius for making people remember Carl is in this game. You know what? i just dont care. Why? because always noob people say that Carl is bad, but hell! when you manage to be good with him they start to call you cheap or that chars is overpowered. What i always i will like from Carl, that is a character for the hardworking guy. If you are good with him, no one will ever call you noob. Hell they will hate you or get way too salty but they never will be calling you noob. I have to admit, if Relius is Hight tier, more similar to Eddie and better than Carl is very probable that i change main. Still i recognize that i have a great run whit Carl in Cs2, i loved the oki and i loved having at least one 5K combo that is reliable and manage to connect it a lot. Long live to Carl! and i hope that in BBCSEX Carl manage to be still top tier!
Rishtopher Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Relius? I am not sure I will play him. He does look very Eddie-ish (I can smell the corner loops now), not so much of a puppeteer as he is a pokemon trainer to me. But I certainly did not take an interest in Carl because of him. This made me lol. Just the implication that Carl's mom is a pokémon xD I chose Carl for more shallow reasons I guess. I used to play Ragna in CT, but he kinda felt like Win Mode to me at the time (I didn't have online, so I only got to play other scrubs like me lol). I heard Carl was hard and decided I'd learn him. Also, I make a point to try and learn anyone with a suit/top hat. Plus he happens to be generally well mannered and I like his personality. Besides...I love his theme SO MUCH Agreed! It's my favourite theme in the game lol. noob people say that Carl is bad, but hell! when you manage to be good with him they start to call you cheap or that chars is overpowered. Admittedly, I feel like if you're not an AMAZING Carl, there's a huge stigma attached to him. Like I'll play randos online and when I enter a room with voice chat I can hear people going "Oh Carl main!? LOL!" Then if I lose, I get called a scrub, if I win, people ragequit. It's not like I really care that much but admittedly, it gets annoying. It doesn't help that I generally do better with my subs than with Carl >__>. This has only been my personal experience though, and like I said before, I'm not very good. About switching to Relius main, I actually thought this would be the case with a lot of Carl users (myself included). Though I'm too stubborn to abandon Carl, even if he somehow went to Tager Tier, I'd still main him (it also helps that I only play for a hobby and not money at tourneys though lol). I do plan on making Relius my main sub though. Just cuz the thought is cool.
Osmond Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) The ways they would have to bomb him in order to make him Tager tier, oh man... I think we are safe from that. Relius will undoubtedly be easier to play, the only real weakness I can see being Ignis having the life bar and durability of a wet card board box. So moves that smack from behind or hit both him and Ignis like Assault through or Litchi's staff could ruin is day if he is not paying attention. I make a point to try and learn anyone with a suit/top hat. Plus he happens to be generally well mannered and I like his personality. Why so classy Carl? I guess I am not the only one who chose their main due to their personality or something as equally arbitrary reasons, like I play Tsubaki because she is the only lady with the sense to wear pants and I main Tager because he's always been the underdog at the legit skill levels as well as the fact he reminds me of Hank McCoy in the sense that he is an insanely muscular nerd. (sexy sexy Hank McCoy...) Anyway as for Carl, his theme song, the whole classical music motif, unique gameplay and...I make point to play characters with glasses. And those reasons are good enough for me. Edited September 19, 2011 by Osmond
Mascarpone Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I don't think Ignis has an attackable hit box unless she's preforming a move so just assault-through-ing is probably not gonna do much. Her moves are also substantially faster that nirvana's so it will probably be harder to interrupt her and combo her. But she certainly does bleed when she uses moves so she's limited in what she can do at a time. More recent videos however show she recovers really fast when deactivated; almost wolf-gauge speed so as long as u don't let her get killed u shouldn't be having issues with ignis meter imo. I'll be the first to admit I chose carl for the top hat and boy shorts. I have a secret weakness for shotas. don't judge me.
Zoogstin Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I chose Carl because I'm well aware of Arc Sys track record with 2-in-1 characters. They end of pretty stupid. Liesolotte in Arcana Heart also helped prove this as well. I knew Carl would be stupid for whatever reason. Just wasn't quite sure how. *incoming throw loop in CT*

Anyway as for Carl, his theme song, the whole classical music motif, unique gameplay and...I make point to play characters with glasses. And those reasons are good enough for me. Thank you for being one of the only people I know for not giving into to fanservice characters lol. That's why Tsubaki is my favourite female character in the game. She's the only one noted for her character and not outward appearance lol. It helps that I happen to find that kind of refinement sexy. Also, red hair. Also, I completely forgot about Carl's glasses. They are definitely a plus :P Also(x2), I've been meaning to ask how people play their Carl and what generally works best with most matchups/players. I tend to zone and try to get them to come to me so I can attack, but I've seen people play really aggressive, really good Carl's. I don't know how to zone admittedly (still practicing Rachel zoning) and whenever I jump in I get murdered. Having trouble dealing with Ragna/Bang rushdown and I need to think of how to play it safe. Hazama is annoying too, but I honestly have the hardest time fighting Litchi since her staff goes right through Ada and hits me if i get too close. I considered putting this in the matchups subforum, but I'm just looking for general strategies.
Akira-Shiro Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Lol im all actuality i chose carl as my main all by mistake... Back when CT first came gameplay of ragna vs Jin,, and it got me interested. Then i saw the cover art for the CT ps3 game case. I though i saw a little girl with a giant hat holding her hands up to cast a magic spell lol In my mind i was like "OMG MAGIC FUCK YEA" lol however once i picked him i was like "O.o why does she have a boys name,, and WTF does this big bitch in the background do" lol and then i started to learn lil carl ^-^
