Tachyons Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 From my understanding it works the same like Melty Blood's crossup protection.
tetora_desu Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Kinda sad that it being a JP release will limit the number of people playing.
Akujikan Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 From my understanding it works the same like Melty Blood's crossup protection.  That's kind of the vibe I got, too. I didn't know UNIEL was using it, though, so it does makes a lot of low assault setups a lot less intimidating. Definitely good to know.  As for Seth, he's really fast, has excellent pressure and an unblockable setup (or at least HAD one. I don't know if he still does these days) but his short range makes him easier to disrespect on his approach than most of the cast and his defensive options are some of the most limited in the game. He's very reliant on dictating the pace of the match with his projectile, aerial back-dash and fast fall, trying to trap players into either over-extending themselves chasing him down or to become complacent while blocking full-screen projectiles. I just think he has to be a little more active throughout the match than most characters, which lends itself to him having to work harder for his wins.Â
Angel-tastic Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 So wait, if there are no cross-ups, how does Yuzuriha break the opponent's guard then? I didn't think she had any standing overheads either, or am I remembering badly?Â
Zouf Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 She has an instant overhead, and a godlike neutral game. Should be enough to open the opponent guard
kazukifafner Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 So, it's basically just how Melty Blood works then? So, basically, the only real difference is that an opponent can't cross you up traditionally? That shouldn't take too long to get used to. Hell, the only aspect of it that you'd need to remember is to just block normally if your opponent tries to jump over you.
Putin Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hm, I certainly remember watching some really old Carmine footage where he jumped forward at the end of his combos, and threw the lockdown wheel behind the opponent, opening them up. Was it just the opponent not blocking? Or maybe a "bloodstain" activated at the same time, hitting them from behind? Â Damn I really need to figure out how his setups work before the game hits consoles
kojibeoulve Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Yuzuriha has mixups from whiff charge j 2c, but she doesn't have any jump attacks fast enough to be considered an instant overheads. She does have frame traps though, and you can catch people whiffing with your slashes. Her aerial slashes are also air unblockable. Most yuzurihas i've seen do assault j.2c, then they'll either whiff into a low, throw, or let it rip. Her main gameplan looks to be a lot of space control and whiff punishing in the long run, having to play catchup is not something you want to do with her.
Setsuna Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Kinda sad that it being a JP release will limit the number of people playing.  Not really, theres a huge amount of people excited for UNIEL and possibly comparable with BBCP numbers with online activity. Also keep into account you have more serious players through JP only releases as theyre the likely the only ones to bother importing, if a US copy drops it'll be like BB where theres a bunch of casuals filling the arcade lobbies, rage quitting every chance they did, lagging up matches etc etc  td;lr Quality over QuantityÂ
kazukifafner Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 No ragequitting and hate mail will make me sad  Hm, I certainly remember watching some really old Carmine footage where he jumped forward at the end of his combos, and threw the lockdown wheel behind the opponent, opening them up. Was it just the opponent not blocking? Or maybe a "bloodstain" activated at the same time, hitting them from behind?  Damn I really need to figure out how his setups work before the game hits consoles  I think you have to block projectiles/items based on what side your opponent is on. So even if they can't physically cross you up with their own attacks, they can still cross you up by being on the other side of you when a projectile hits.  At least, I think that's how it works.
Akujikan Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Hm, I certainly remember watching some really old Carmine footage where he jumped forward at the end of his combos, and threw the lockdown wheel behind the opponent, opening them up. Was it just the opponent not blocking? Or maybe a "bloodstain" activated at the same time, hitting them from behind? Â I think on wakeup you face the direction that the opponent is when you finish standing and you have to hold "away" from them to block. Crossup protection prevents them from switching sides on you in the same jump while you're facing them, but since Carmine is floating backwards as you're standing up, its really hard to tell which side of you he's on to begin with. This would make blocking properly pretty difficult, especially with a low aerial Spin! coming at you.Â
LordSpectreX Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Just to confirm, it isn't just like Melty Blood's crossup detection system, it IS that. In this game, you can block moves by holding the stick in the direction your opponent is facing. This means if the opponent goes over you and hits you with a move that hits behind you, you can still hold the same direction to block as the way the oppponent is facing has not changed. One he lands, the opponent will then auto correct in the right direction, meaning that for the next resulting grounded move, you will have to block in the other direction.  Seth is fairly weak, though he's not quite as weak as the tier lists make him out to be. He's a vortex character in a game where standard crossups aren't possible. He also suffers from having destroy-able projectiles (Like Naoto/Testament), small normals and having mobility in a game where a lot of characters have huge amounts of space control, like Gordeau, Merkava, etc. That being said, he is a mixup+mobility character, so guys like RIon can win any matchup with skill. He's probably so low on the in-game list cause a lot of people will pick Seth because of his design without knowing the game much at all.  Just don't expect free wins with him. He will be work. But you will get rewarded for your efforts if you're good enough. If not, then just play Gordeau.  Anyway, I've created a Youtube Channel dedicated to uploading Seth match videos. It's only started a couple of days ago so there's not much right now, but I plan to make it an evening side project with a few videos a night until I'm eventually up to date. Please check it out.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2hIe1KhyVqqUlqjQnTr27Q
Akiro Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Hows Hilda? Everyone seems to place her pretty low on the tiers, but the players I watch do pretty decently with her.
Stellarcircle5 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 This is great stuff man, thanks! Good to know that he isn't total ass. And the no crossup thing does not bother me that much anyway since the vortex characters I play are based around high\low rather than left/right.

One in the air, one on the ground. He does have some Left Right mixup too, it's just not as simple as *jump over j.c*. His mixup is really good.
Skyheartxia Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Hows Hilda? Everyone seems to place her pretty low on the tiers, but the players I watch do pretty decently with her. shes pretty good. she has great matchups and terrible matchups, though.moreso than many others.
Appledash- Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 She is the queen of big normals in a game full of big normals. Her sword projectiles are really fast and her shadow ball thing that shoots tiny swords is pretty good for locking people down, usually after a combo. I think she has trouble opening people up though? She seems like a character who is more about punishing stupid mistakes. I don't really know too much about Hilda though, this is all just observation. Also there's actually quite a bit of footage of strong Hilda players, like the A-Cho videos, which is pretty cool. Delrian Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I wonder if crossup protection exploits exist in Uniel like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHbzL-GkwZQ
Zeromus_X Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Why exactly is Chaos bottom tier? Is his neutral game just not good enough in this game full of xbox huge normals? It's weird seeing a puppet character ranked so low.
Stellarcircle5 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Why exactly is Chaos bottom tier? Is his neutral game just not good enough in this game full of xbox huge normals? It's weird seeing a puppet character ranked so low.I would guess that it has to do with the fact that even with Azhi Dahaka to cover him, he still cant control neutral like Gordeau, Yuzu, Waldstein etc... By himself he has lacklustre normals, and unlike other puppet characters Azhi does not actually allow him to pile on ridiculous pressure. His footsie game is still fairly good from what I've seen, but his offense is somewhat lacking and he has bad defensive options including the lowest health in the game. I still think he's a cool character and I get hype whenever I see him. Also keep in mind that he isn't THE weakest character in the game. Akatsuki is still a thing :P
Surf Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 From what I've seen.  Chaos is mostly footsie based. Ahzi reminds me of Thanatos, but not as good/scary. Once Thanatos gets you blocking usually it becomes a guessing game. With Azhi you can essentially downback and shield. Gaining GRD in the process. It doesn't have any grab/overhead options so it relies on you being impatient and trying to get out. Chaos himself doesn't really have much mixup either. His normals aren't the best and he cant get the opponent off of him meterless. I think I remember reading his dodge isn't invul on frame 1.  But he still seems fun. His oki is looks solid and pressure actually gets scary in the corner due to his ability to reverse beat Azhi's specials.Â
Skyheartxia Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Why exactly is Chaos bottom tier? Is his neutral game just not good enough in this game full of xbox huge normals? It's weird seeing a puppet character ranked so low. technically he's not a puppet char, as he cant move when azhi is doing specials. his main problems are: punish games effect him a lot more than others, as when you take away his puppet from a small punish he is seriously, seriously . his force function dodge is bad because while it's invul, it has startup and landing hurtboxes and can be punished heavily on a bad one so its not a great escape. his normals are just a little...too small. if he had Akatsuki's damage with meter, and his dodge had better invul, i think he'd be a little better. he has his problems compared to the rest of the cast, which is sad
Kirnupiima Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Oh man, is Gordeau really going to be as dominant as people say he will? I hope I'll learn to play against him. And fastÂ
SoWL Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 The problem I'm having with Seth is that he's basically a male Linne with less damage and unorthodox projectiles. They have about the same game plan, similar weaknesses, but Linne is just easier to do well with. Though Seth is also a character I haven't watched that many videos of, so I should totally check that channel.
