Bring her to Foonzo, I think it's a better place to show than the HQ for a first timer, frankly. We've got one girl, we can't scare her! :P

Get her introduced first and we'll go from there. Gotta be careful with beginners since the amount of work you have to put in fighters can be daunting. Take it easy at first, then we can move on to more difficult stuff.

I agree with Nolan. The HQ is such a creepy place that she could easily get scared off. I, for one, went there for the first time for the Smash meetups and found it completely freaky as hell (not to mention that the lights weren't even on during that day!).

I'm pretty sure that the beginner tutorial in BBCS does quite a bit of the job (at least, a guy I know started FGs with that). I could help her out if you need a hand but I'm a scrub. So scrubby player teaching scrubby beginner seems stupid. I've taught FGs to other friends (and my brother) just fine. But I first started with Street Fighter, so go figure.

Yeah it's true, a lot of things can scare beginners away from FGs. The most common, from personal experiences, being having to learn difficult combos, playing unforgiving opponents, dealing with shit talk/salt, etc. since really they just want to have fun. One of the frustrating points is when you learn your first BnB but can't place it in a real match.

I will definitely help out if people bring beginners, I like to teach and make the community grow if I can, but I'd rather not dedicate ALL of my time at the HQ to that. Gotta work on them commentating skills whenever I can, and I have to play as much GG and AH3 as I can while having opponents. That said, I don't know Makoto combos at all so I'd be mostly there for fundamentals. I have a really hard time breaking out of auto-pilot when I play, but I know my stuff.

I'd stick to stuff like "don't jump" "stop pressing buttons and block" "use the A and B buttons more", the only thing I'm worried about is getting carried away with the lingo and everything I think doing the tutorials and playing opponents who give feedback and don't go all out is the way to learn.

And hey am I the only one who doesn't think the HQ is creepy. (well, excluding the outside and elevators)

I'll definitely take her to Foonzo at some point though. It's also a café, so that makes it much simpler.

There's also one of my boys who plays smash who's looking for people to play against, in case any of you play smash. Who knows, maybe he could transition from smash to BB/SF/Marvel if exposed to a vibrant scene.

I tried explaining him that Brawl is ass, but it's his first and only FG, and he's fucken stubborn.

On another note, who's down for HQ on thursday? Haven't played some serious BB in a while now, might be getting a bit rusty trolling beginners.

IMO it's a good idea to at least show what it's like when you get serious at a game, maybe the person is slightly interested at first but then sees that it looks like a really fun thing to learn. Of course the alternative is also very realistic, I'm just optimistic sometimes. Foonzo implies stick, which might make it more interesting for beginners, maybe... am I being too optimistic here?

Well, for beginners, you're the worst teacher ever. As you simply perfect their ass and start laughing. But I'll be honest and say that I've learned quite a few things, playing you and getting my ass punished almost 100% of the time for doing risky blockstrings/mixups. So keep doin' your thing bro.
