Darkstalkers round robin results, week 1 tournament (a couple years later):

1. Airmaster

2. Sophisticat

3. Rameo

4. Steb

5. Pochp

6. DerQ

The new cabs (Work in progress) at foonzo. More stations, less space demanded, less tables in the way. This is definitely looking amazing.

Halifax tournament... it's like, it could be really awesome to go to. We could probably set up a rotation of drivers maybe even rent a van (less issues because we're not leaving the country), stop at lac Témiscouata for a picnic because it's a really nice area, and then discover a whole part of Canada we'd never been to before. Only thing is, it's so long we'd have to leave the day before and return the following day, but since it's the weekend after ECT, it seems unlikely that we'd all be able to take the extra days off and afford it. In my case, I'm going to start an internship at a new place in may, so I really don't know what the situation for taking time off would be, and either way it wouldn't give me a lot of time to confirm if I can come or not. There are alternatives, we could do like last year for ECT and not take time off of work to go, but last year was special and Bibi is streaming the event this year, so we might want to avoid taking a risky schedule. On the other hand, we could leave for Halifax on Friday after work, stop for camping halfway, then finish the ride on Saturday morning, and then leave on Sunday morning and drive in a rotation the whole day. I think it would also be a good experience to see how far we can go, as there are tournaments we've so far considered as being more or less out of driving range, such as Seasons Beatings, The Fall Classic, Civil War, anything in Chicago, Final Round...

TLDR : I'd like to go but like, ~20% chance I can make it, and we'd need to be at least 2 hopefully 3 drivers.

Good lord, Nolan. What a night...

Ok, long story short I'm a bit too tipsy so I didn't realize I missed my train station. So instead of getting off at Roxboro-Pierrefonds, I get off at Ile Bigras... And as the name suggests, it's off-island. FML

There is no train going back in to MTL, but one train left going out. So I run for a bit to check the area around from the edge of the river. No bridges except for the one I came from, and that's pretty much train-only. I assess that taking a taxi would be prohibitively expensive. Walking back over said (non-illuminated) bridge appears to be the best idea (lol). As I'm contemplating the risk of this venture, a black guy who is more or less our age comes up to me and it turns out we're in the same boat. Seeing where this is going I just take the lead and suggest running across. Turns out the planks are actually spaced-out, so no running in the dark. Half-way through, the spaces between the planks get larger so we need to be doubly careful.

So yeah, we cross the bridge and walk the 5 miles back to the next train station. I hightail it back home from there. I should've got the guy's Facebook, he seemed pretty chill. I don't care if this was stupid, I still thought it was cool to do. I just won't be doing it again.

Aside from that, VS is super cool and fun. Might grab it after all.

Louis is still a based beast in GG.

And thanks for the Haku advice, Kaeru and Pedro!

The furthest I went towards that direction was Campbellton to then cross the bridge to head to Gaspe, and if there's one thing I really enjoyed its... Everything! The road is filled of small towns, beast mountains making you feel small, small lakes here and there... Anyway I suck at explaining but if you love nature you'll have hard time sleeping during your ride, I know I couldn't only did until Quebec city was breached then it was over. Very unfortunate for me, as stated above, I am needed elsewhere the week after HOWEVER if this kind of thing does happen again at some point, I'd be more than willing to ride all the way there with anyone who is willing to come along in this awesome trip! And I do suggest that many people does come.

There was a google doc for it on either the event page or in another regional thread. 9 consoles, 2 for anime. 3 hours for persona and 3 for blazblue, top 4 the next morning

He means if they have evo mons and whatnot. Which is a valid concern IMO, HDTV is just lol and CRTs could do I guess but they are pretty hard to transport.

Posted

Uh, I'm confused. What's the issue with using HDTVs to play on? I mean hell, I play on one of those 2006 36' by 14 inches deep HDTVs and I experience less lag on that than on the EVO monitor we use at the weekly fests...even if on 1080i it will sometimes cut off on the edges in certain games if I don't re-size it.

For the tournament, we'll be using the same monitors used at Evo (Asus VH236H, I believe), and P4A/BB will be running on PS3. All the other games will be on 360.

@Livewire: most HDTVs suffer from lag. I've gotten used to adapting from one to the other pretty frequently, but it can definitely screw you over pretty badly.

inb4 response time argument.

Screens have input lag and certain monitors have less of it. To illustrate the general idea, if a screen/monitor offers a higher quality image, it also demands more time to process it. Unless you're willing to spend crazy amount, higher quality could equal to less performance depending on the model. A good ol' fashionned CRT offers a better performance than most modern affordable TVs/Monitors. It's subtle, but there could be a big enough difference for people to be annoyed with them.

Hey guys I'm interested in going to the tournament tomorrow and was wondering if there are any spots left in any cars?

Posted

Huh...yeah, I can kinda get that with the whole cost thing. I guess the used one I bought a couple of years ago happened to be new enough to support HD, but old enough to not have input issues as much, lol.

I think thelo was interested in going, not sure if he still is or how to get in touch with him though, but we're full :(

If you're feeling more lag on the Evo monitor than on your HD setup, it's most likely the opposite. It's going to screw up your timings regardless, so a lot of people assume that the setup they're more comfortable with is the one that isn't lagging. I'm just generalizing though, there is less lag on a CRT, so technically it could lag more than the Asus monitors, but the difference is a lot smaller than the one there usually is between a monitor and an HDTV.

Also, DerQ, I may be wrong, but I think the cheaper models actually have less lag than the more expensive one, because they have generally less features that would just create more of this lag. The features aren't actually things most humans care about or could notice if you didn't point it out to them, but anyways, that's for another discussion.

Finished all of Bishamon's tutorials except 2-2. I can do cMP > ES Karame Dama, but can't do cLK > cMP > ES Karame Dama.

I suck.

Yeah? So? Meanwhile I finished all of Lord Raptor's tutorials (because they are easy as hell (but then again I had to trick the game into thinking I was doing IADs by full jumping then AD low to the ground do ho ho)). You better step it up.

What's happening right now is I'm trying to generate beef between AirMaster and absolutely everybody else in VSav. Someone well versed in pro wrestling drama tell me if I'm doing it right.

Gilbert, I have a copy of Gundam vs now.

Kaeru sensei, will you be at foonzo tomorrow? if so there's something I'd like to talk to you about with regards to my stick and I have enough money to pay off the buttons you ordered for me.

Oh yea, and Gilbert will you be going to foonzo tomorrow?

Wasn't planning on going, but I'll be there.

And greenix, it doesn't matter what you're trying to do. The only thing that matters is that the next time we meet I'll whip your roody-poo candy ass all over Montreal City (at VSav and Gundam). And that's word.

I didn't add it because I'd feel bad at beating you at 3 games in one day. But if you don't mind that, it's on!
