TGS Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Kinda saw this coming a mile away due to BlazBlue's dwindling numbers (people burned out on CS2, waiting for CSE) plus other games being released at the right times. Even though the announcement of SFxT made me go , I hope that game doesn't end up a train wreck competitively, but if it does, lulz will be had. Anyways, someone plan shit for BlazBlue and/or Guilty Gear side tourneys like usual. Maybe there'll be some nice bonuses as well?
Pestilence Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I'm with you dude, I was mad salty when I saw that Blazblue is not on the lineup. Now I have a reason not to watch Blazblue on the stream or attend the event this year. It's a shame because me and a couple of friends were planning on going to Evo this year to attend and participate in the BB tournament. Evo has always been unofficially a Capcom event. They show very little love for Arc Sys Games year after year. I wish people would get together a make a huge official event for our type of games. GG/MB/Fate/AH/BB/ETC

They'll keep thinking EVO is their main event every year even if they're not a featured tournament.
Klaige Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I know most everyone here is disappointed with the decision, and even if you don't go to SRK i'd like you to read this post: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/no-blazblue-at-evo-2012.152171/page-3#post-6340753 I know a lot of you aren't bitching and crying foul, but there are some loud ones that are, and they are doing you as Blazblue players no favors. I'm not BB's biggest supporter as many of you know, but I don't think I can stress enough that this is your biggest opportunity as a community to really show if this game is big or not in this country. What you do with this chance is entirely up to you, and I sincerely hope the BB players show up in mass and throw some gigantic brackets together. I'm not trying to single out anyone in this post, or call out BB players in general, I just think this situation needed some perspective in a bad way, and I hope my little write up over at SRK provides that. If you disagree with me, that's cool, but I think if you are really feeling cheated about the Evo lineup that post may at least give you something to think about. Best of luck to you all in whatever 2012 tournaments you hit up.
kirbster Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I found it hard to read the opening post with that avatar. That said, I was really planning on going this year. I guess it's not entirely unfeasable now, but yeah... motivation down 200%.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 real talk This makes a lot of sense to me. I really wanted to go to EVO this year, and that is motivation within itself. I won't always have the opportunity to travel for tournaments. And BB is a big reason for that, and nothing better than saving money AND playing the game you love lol.
Zeero Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 2012 just begun and I think Klaige already made the best post of 2012 Although one additional excuse: I think a major factor is also because 99% of the BB players i've ever met are also poverty/kids. Travelling to a tourney with no entrants is retarded if you're poverty. You practically need 1 tournament where every single player decides to go to make it worth while (and the money). But asides from that, everything else is super true. Kudos to LK making to EVO last year and ends up being in SUPER poverty because sparks stole his money XD To every other one of you who wasn't at EVO last year, stay home and stay free. Kinda happy BB isn't at EVO because now I don't have to spend 1k+ to go lol.
kirbster Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Yeah, Klaige got it right. It really sucks because I feel BBEX is the best version so far, it's a great competitive game. As for games like MK9 and SFxT making it in... well, money makes the world go round. Justin Bieber sells out entire stadiums, does that mean he's any good? No, it just shows you how many people have shit taste (a bit of an extreme example, but yeah).
shtkn Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 show up or shut up that's basically what it comes down to. if you're disappointed by this, show up to tournaments (side tourney or not)!
Eshi Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Guys, for serious - you have even *more* reason to go, now - it's going to be cheaper. Just need to make sure enough equipment is brought so the setup is proper. Sorry I can't help ya here.lol, that is a good point. I looked up costs for a plane ticket and I am now definitely planning to go this year for BB and spectating :D now I just need a place to stay...
Spirit Juice Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 In regards to this decision to not have BB at Evo, the parallels between the BB and GG community are so similar it's pretty god damn funny.

yashanyu1 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Reality. Probably one of the best posts to ever grace the internet. I plan on stepping it up this year however i can, from hosting poverty tournaments to getting bb hyped at majors. Hopefully we as a community can show what we're made of.
ZeroRaider Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Yeah I'll be ready to hype it up there, just keep up guys.
Spirit Juice Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Did you read what Klaig wrote? It's an insult to compare these distinct beings. I did. And it's not. The GG community has gone through the same shit. There have been times where people in the community have said "SHOW UP OR SHUT UP" and the GG community failed to deliver on showing up.
mAc Chaos Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Well, look. I understand people saying "show up and support the scene," but at the same time it's a significant investment of time and money, and it's not like this is a religion or a job or something. It's a game. So if the venue is going to go out if its way to flip off the customers, it's pretty natural for people to express their dislike by not participating in it. I mean, if you don't like a certain kind of movie, you don't say "oh man we all need to go there so they know what we're all about and can listen to what we want in the next one." No you just go to a different movie that you actually like.
K2 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 i will still spend 1k to go to evo and play bb if there is a side tournament. just my way to support this game. i know this is dumb, naive and money wasting, wt is one player gonna do to change the fact that bb community is a fail. There is this beautiful hope of, o, if everyone does the same, bb community will show evo that we care. but in reality, my money will be wasted and i am not going to see any other bb players. but balh... i rather be dumb and play games while i am still young...

zeth07 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Does anyone know where I can see the number of entrants each game got for EVO2K11? I'm just curious to see how many entrants games got relative to the number of sales. If SF and Marvel sell millions and pull a few thousand, they can't honestly expect BlazBlue to pull big numbers off a much smaller "player pool" to begin with. Where maybe Mortal Kombat and Tekken 6 (or Soul Calibur in the case of EVO2k12) sell millions but pull roughly the same number as BlazBlue but somehow make it, it isn't exactly a fair comparison of BlazBlue players not showing up if in fact that "ratio" is on par or even better than some of the other games in theory. I know it's meaningless in the grand scheme of things and isn't going to change anything, but it's something I'd like to actually see with actual (estimated) numbers to compare.
Blue Link Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I was planning to go to evo this year mostly because of BB, but now... If I see that there's some people supporting the side tournament on evo and that they going to attend on it I will still get out of my country and go there, I can't accept the fact that this game is always seen as not tournament worthy and don't receive the same love as other games. It may be dumb of my part doing that, but I love this game, can't help on that, let's just show Mr. Wizard that he was wrong on removing BB from the line-up.
Shining Aquas Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Okay so I've never been to EVO and am considering trying to go this year if luck rolls in my favor. Based on the lineup, I will not be entering any major tournaments, but I'm up for GG, MB, AH, and even BB side tournies. Financially speaking, how deep of a sinkhole should I be expecting to climb out of?
Ryuujinx Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I went from "maybe I'll go to evo this year..." To "fuck no I'm not going.." Then I read some posts and was like "fuck it, I'm gonna go."
