prodawg Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 You also can't argue the fact that if Vash decided to straight up murder people halfway through the story, it would be fucking cool as hell. And besides, I'm not trying to argue that Yuri isn't a hypocrite, I'm just trying to justify and sympathize with why he went against his views. Yeah you might get a few badass scenes is Vash went all dirty harry, but at the cost of just about everything that makes Vash a unique and interesting character. Rerarding the ToV debate: I'm not even really saying that him going against his code is a bad thing, just that from what I'm hearing it just sounds like the story wants you to blindly accept it, without fully exploring the potential for character development.

I still can't call what he did hypocrisy. His moral code was to kill people who did wrong aka feed children to monsters and sent villagers out into the desert with no supplies to search for a creature that might not even exist. Not to just kill. Yuri Lowell is also my second favorite male character, after Tomoya Okazaki.

The difference between this and my previous argument is I'm mature enough to realize that there's a contradiction in what I believe should be acceptable in the context of fantasy for myself, and what should be acceptable for others. I would never dream of saying that something should be acceptable (When done by me), but then only find it to be something offensive when others do it without realizing that is an indefensible and irrational view. I realize that both view points in the situation are morally corrupt ones and that one should never been deemed as acceptable (Due to the exception) while the other is somehow wrong. Neither is justifiable, and both should be condemned, and I should absolutely be held reprehensible for having such a viewpoint. I have no problem discussing flaws in my character or admitting that I'm not perfect because I don't pretend to be all that is righteous in the world. The issue in the original scenario isn't just hypocrisy in itself it's that nobody seems to realize that the hypocrisy exists to begin with or finds it strange that this contradiction exists.
