PhaethonH Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 A pseudo-option select I fall back to once in a while is 66, 6321[P+S], 4K(+P+S). Most intermediate players are aware of the Dash Brake technique -- but if you hold the FD, you'll keep sliding, and closing the OHK distance. The idea is to slide into OHK range safely with FD, then go straight into OHK out of FD; and if you're attacked, you block safely before OHK can come out. It's not a "true" Option Select, as there is no ambiguous input that magically gives you one of many outcomes in a particular frame (OHK has 5F startup, that's 5 frames you can get hit), but on a human reaction scale, it comes close. And, no, FD+H (hold FD, hit H) does not yield throw. Another variation I use is 66, 6321[P+K], 4 release K -- FD to OHK utilizing Negative Edge. It involves less finger-yoga for the same effect. Using it once in a blue moon tends to work wonders: if you see your opponent running at you at top speed then suddenly crouch-blocking FD while sliding to a full stop for no readily apparent reason, the last thought to cross your mind is "oh snap, I'm about to be gang-raped by a loli pirate and her Sea World friends!"

I'd actually use it more than a once in a blue moon. I do a large share of SRK baiting (especially against ABA =.=) and this will help out tons in terms of getting the upper hand out of those awkward moments where they don't SRK and we end up staring at each other.
pulsr Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 yeah, iirc if they block a hs you can do the fd ohk without fear of getting hit
Kyle Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I'm going to update the Map with the two newest addition later this evening. I've started recording combos. yay. NEC is this weekend, I hope I'll get the chance to hang with ArcLord_. Next week is the last week of classes then finals, I am loaded! but I will do the Bridget guide next week. I normally wouldn't debate it but hell, it's bridget and I live with Jais, If anyone knows that match-up it's me. The more I think about it, I don't think that match-up requires a very drastic strategy change for May, Other characters though, they EAT bridget zoning /mix-up/ tricks. After Bridget I will do Sol as there is lots of stuff contributed already, especially from Pulsr and Spirit Juice. From there, I am at a cross road, Should I progress by tiers, available content or by request? What would benefit you guys the most? BTW: Moriyama(sp?) is effective and boring, I find Efute diverse, interesting and not as effective.

Zappa could be a nice continuation since you do have quite a bit on him in the matchups thread. Otherwise a well played eddie could potentially be a huge problem despite May's omgwtf damage. BTW: Moriyama(sp?) is effective and boring, I find Efute diverse, interesting and not as effective. I'll have to disagree with you there. After watching tons of matches where May gets whooped mercilessly, it's really interesting to see May completely melt some faces, especially those of kaqn and the like. For a less effective Moriyama-style player, Tama is great (heck giving Koichi a run for his money is pretty damned good in my books). Otherwise I check out Kedako for his inventive passive-aggressive style. Efute's May annoys me for some reason.
WAN? Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 BTW: Moriyama(sp?) is effective and boring, I find Efute diverse, interesting and not as effective. I don't agree with you at all. Hsien_Jo Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Big Changes in the May forum guys, I've renamed, moved, compiled, stickied, un-stickied and deleted. My intentions are to keep her organized and cleaner. How does everyone feel about these changes? Welcome F.T.B. I am glad this forum rocks enough to help you out. A pat on the back to all the May soldiers here. Thanks for all the hard work do, we all appreciate it very much and everyone else helpin out to keep this thing together
F.T.B. Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Fun times over at the tier list thread over the newly released tier list from the japanese. I'll try to do a bit of elementary translations for what is said about may :D ウザさ全快のザ・厨キャラだと思う 得意 闇慈、イノ:過去スレを見て、メイを苦手とするキャラを探してみた 苦手 アバ、ザッパ:過去スレを見t(ry May Average Damage/Power (S): Basically, OHK is god, HS on reaction as a counter is also god and 6P gets you out of practically any sticky situations. Maximum Damage/Power (A): Average Power = Maximum Power. I guess it means no real burst damage but steady damage that nets a crap ton in the end (eg: lame loop) Poking ©: Short reach... Defense against pressure(D): What looks to be a remark about how May cannot get out of constant pressure (missing SRK) Mix up ©: is average and tension dependent... Okizeme/Wake up game ©: Not much else in terms of oki game after hoop set FRC and "in the air oki game" which I assume to be a reference to 2HS Anti-Air (D): Apparently weak anti-air other than what I assume to be the invul frames of 6P. Must rely on getting her move out first or air throwing for AA otherwise. Ground to Ground (A): Excellent ability to cross and delay (I assume it is in reference to the delay in pressure strings and the like) "etc." . . . Good Matchup: I-no (May has searched and found a poor risk character [literal translation]) Bad Matchup: ABA (self explanatory), Zappa (incomplete) ... more to come Also, I'm still learning the language so my Kanji is pretty crap as it is, so I appreciate any help I can get Edit: temp fixed some headings according to POscrub's post
pulsr Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I'd like to know what is average and tension dependent... --- Probably what her overall damage is with or with out tension. May cannot do much ground to ground with out tension, however she does have her ohk which nets big damage. When she does have tension its even bigger. Its probably in that regard. Eddie would probably be the highest in this regard probably
F.T.B. Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Apparently it's her mixup that's average and tension dependent...I'm toot tired at the moment to make any sense out of it lol
Kyle Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 First and most importantly Pulsr- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all of your sol contribution. Don't let him in his 5D range Don't let him in his command throw range Poke with 5K and 5FS, Punish the SHIT out of Upper... always bait it. I beat YooYoung HARD because of this. His sol is AWESOME BTW. Everyone was watching and cheering, and I don't get that fight regularly, in fact the last time I played that was two months ago and maybe 6 before that. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all of your help through out both match-up threads. That shit will definitely go into the sol guide: it works. Everyone- Both May's lost to a patient Ky player at NEC. It's not like a match-up guide for Ky would help either. For 2 reasons. 1- Jorge plays with a good Ky player often. Darkhonor- he is an analog warrior. 2- StevefuckingHarris makes you fight yourself by turning the game into cvs2. He doesn't jump, always super cancels a successful poke, and whores out one of the best Anti-Airs in the game. Here's the plan, everyone when you fight StevefuckingHarris, do not jump! fuck it, you don't need too... just don't do it. I forbid it. Additionally, I lost to a Touchdown Potemkin, it's disappointing after I put so much work into understanding that match-up, Dan (GwygrnBood) had 2 answer to everything I did. 1 Backdash PB 2 Jump, Instant Block PB The only thing I felt intuitive for doing was successfully baiting and punishing a slide with a whale.... that cost me soo many resources. gahhaahahaha All this comes down to a change in the match-up guide for POT, here's the plan. do not jump! fuck it, you don't need too... just don't do it. I forbid it. Once you realize this, as soon as he jump you should CH j.HS the SHIT out of that fat bastard. Jorge/Shadowman/Shinquickman- I am glad to see someone else playing May especially at a Major tourney. Your style is very similar to mine but there is a difference between the way we play, I am not just talking about match-up experience either. We will definitely chill together at FR. Fuck Steve harris... he is so good. that man makes me feel like I suck at GG. lol. ArcLord- Where were you? NamelessCounter- Did you come? Why didn't you come. There was so much to learn. My personal flaws were- Fighting Pot the Wrong way Not escaping Eddie pressure/Mix-up. Jumping against Steve Harris Still OHK'ing burst punish's insted of 5S combo. More to learn GAHAGAHGAHGA.
Kyle Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Updates- Bridget guide in a few days Sol after that Currently we have 1 vote for Zappa. (FTB) and 1 vote for Eddie. (Myself) Anyone else want to speak up? Thanks for posting up new translations FTB, I support everything said really, not much is debatable. BTW I was trading wins against Moroha (Seth) while successfully and consistently Slashback'n Danzai. woot woot. 3.5-6.5 I WIN
WAN? Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I am totally lost with this Eddie unblockable. So unfortunately I am going to have to vote for the Eddie. Any kinda of info would help.
pulsr Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 My personal flaws were- Not escaping Eddie pressure/Mix-up. the key to fighting eddie is not knowing how to "escape" pressure but how to block it
Kyle Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I contest Pulsr, I guarded LOTS of mix up, 5K, 6K, 5D and command throw, the thing is... Eddie never lets up. Just as important to escape eddie mix-up/pressure than it is to guard it.
Most Unknown Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 The key to fighting a Eddie and what works for me its punishin Eddie on his moves such as Drill, baitin the DA so that you stay on Eddie at all times, and mix-up between 5k and OHK...I know easier said then done, when you have to deal with his pressure and unblockable combos...Dolph hoops or FB Dolph from mid screen causin Zato to block gets rid of Lil Eddie, so that gives you a change to get inside witout havin to worry him for a few needed seconds...
pulsr Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 the most you can do to escape eddie pressure is, the moment eddie does something into summon you SJ out and even then that doesnt get you much because if he summons straight into uppercut you will have to block and be forced to block his next ground attack which will go into his high low game... Eddie is S tier because his offense IS perfect. if he does anything into buzzsaw you can IB the first hit of the buzzsaw and back dash out, but if you block the first hit you better keep blocking the rest of it because trying to get out is going to get you hit
Kyle Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Dear Troopers, Good news and bad news. Bad- Bridget guide delayed until Wednesday the 12th. I apologize, but this week and the beginning of next week is CRAZY. This is the last week of classes, Finals are raping me on Monday, I have to go to the airport Tuesday. Good - I am officially out of classes/finals on Wednesday the 12th. From then on, I am going to be cranking out match-up guides and discussion while I have the free time. Plus, I am working on a Combo Video for Tenkaigear. There will be lots of progress: quickly might I ad. Please be a little more patient with me. Kyle~

Doomscyther Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Thanks to watching Awesome May action (Kyle destroying kids ), I have actually learned Mays loops and tricks. Who know dolphin loop was so much fun ( wasnt as hard to do when I spent time charge buffering with may/venom for day or 2.) Gonna go watch Kyle vids.
Kyle Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I recorded LOTS of May combo's yesterday.. I lost about half of them because of a corrupt file... Sol guide coming Monday.
Kyle Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Good Evening Soldiers. With the recent release of 23 on 23 teams of same character JP AWESOMENESS, an interesting idea is trying to be implemented at Final Round 11. America is trying to set up 23 on 23 teams of three to represent that character and possibly create our own tier list. With that being said, Teams will most likely be chosen by a Captain who represents a particular character. Most importantly, who is going to FRXI? Who is going to show the community that May is a HARDASS character? Upon a TN player named Azure Phoenix being nominated for a May rep, my comment was: "Kyle, Azure phoenix, Flash" WTF guyz, Azure been player May officially for how long... 2 months? Does that really represent 1/3 the entire American May scene =/. Peter CAN play May, and has GOOD Guilty Gear basics, but we're not counting 2nd or thirds or OTHER mains. Who does that May Forums feel should represent? Are any west Coast Warriors attending; Pulsr, PhaethonH? Regarding FrankDaTank, he said: Actually, May is officially my main as of the day I got back from Philly. Poor Buri has been demoted to secondary status. And I've been practicing my ass off. This doesn't mean you are automatically disqualified, as you have used May as a second for a LONG time, and are exceptional at 3S. That means you have great tourney experience, and understand/implement concepts of match-ups. AzurePhoenix lacks these qualities.

How close is it? Even if I cant represent as a team captain I want to show what I go. Ive been trying to get as many match ups as possible, but as my signature shows, I need some time to recover before I can hit the sticks again. Im not a rookie, I just downplay my self out of modesty, but Ive been playing May since GGX.
