huey253 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 (edited) Using the magic of the website http://www.synchtube.com/ and skype (edited for grammer nazis), I wanted to present my idea of streaming match videos with a discussion group. I'm going to keep it short and sweet since I know that nobody likes reading on the internet. My idea was to select a group of 3 or 4 players that are somewhat proficient with their respective characters to do a live discussion over different blazblue match videos. The players would be selected at random (to the best of my ability) and the videos would include Japanese and American match videos. The players will be watching the videos at the same time through the power of Synchtube and communicate with each other with the magic of Skype. I wanted the sessions to be 30 to 60 minutes and I wanted to have a live QnA section with the stream chat at the end. I was hoping that I could get some feedback on this project idea before I started... Any suggestions? Edited February 14, 2012 by huey253
MashThat5A Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 So if you're using synchtube, do you know if when someone pauses the video, whether or not it will pause for everyone else? Because that would be useful if one of the players wants to break something down further. Sounds like a good idea.
huey253 Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 i'm 80% sure you can do that with synchtube, so lets assume you can for now. I have a good backup plan if it doesn't work.
Shruikon Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Could be pretty neat. A good mix of humour in trashtalk or whatnot and informative discussion/analysis could go down very well.
huey253 Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 thanks... I'm going to try to invite people from all around North America (and possibly beyond). After a couple runs, i'll probably ask if anybody has any suggested players they want to see on the show.
shtkn Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 i don't know if it's possible, but can you draw stuff on screen ala john madden/ every sportscaster ever? that'd be helpful for visualizing angles of approach and whatnot. also, i'm totally down to join in on one of these huey
Shyn Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Sounds like a pretty neat idea. A couple things I think might be a good idea: Have the players watch the video in advance? Depending on how "organic" you were wanting the show to be, this could be a good idea caus people could have things in mind ahead of time to mention. Might increase the amount of useful discussion. Try to choose matches that involve characters the group members are most familiar with. (As long as the group changes regularly. Otherwise this would obviously lead to it being the same matchups always. XD) EDIT: I just noticed the word "live" in the tile. I guess that makes my first suggestion kind of mute. XD
huey253 Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 no, i was actually planning on having the players try to view the videos once ahead of time. I forgot to add that in... Thanks
kirbster Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Sounds like an awesome idea. I remember seeing a vid of Seth Killian at EVO2K11 analyzing Daigo match vids and then asking him about key moments, what was his reason for making that decision, his state of mind... that sort of stuff. It kind of dragged on a bit, but the idea was really neat and quite interesting. I could see this be done with Spark, SKD, LK or other top players. Just a suggestion!
Siefer Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 This is a great idea, I would definitely watch this.

Link to vid with said match analyses:
Mystic d Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Sounds like a great idea Huey. Lmk if i can help
Shiawase Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 This is a great idea. I'd definitely watch this.
huey253 Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 Okay it seems that people would actually watch this, which is a plus. I'll start organizing it behind the scenes and hopefully get the first episode out in early/mid march. If anybody has any other comments/suggestions/concerns, PLEASE post them here so i can see. Thanks
superscience890 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Something to keep in mind, I think it would be good to focus on a few concepts based on a match video. Don't try and analyze every single point of the match, otherwise it takes forever. As you can see above when Rokunaya explains the Warachia vs Nanaya match up in the video, he spends 40 minutes on one match. As a time frame, I think something like a 5 minute match should not go over 15-20 minutes max. Something like 10-15 minutes would probably be ideal though.
St1ckBuG Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Just find good videos with something you specifically want to talk about and go from there. Bring in 1 or 2 people extra that know the characters and send them the video beforehand to prepare, and tell them what you want to focus on for that episode/match.

It was good for showing how you could draw to illustrate things in the matchup, though
Xie Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 This sounds like a horrible idea so I better be on it to make sure it's amazing.
