r0b0t Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 What kind of logic is that? The community get's split up every time a few new characters, character tweaks, and game modes are added. Why on earth would anyone encourage new titles over DLC and patches for such miniscule things? I do not see how that could be a problem though, cause anyone worth playing will have moved on to the newer game.
alucard19 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Point is, its annoying to get good with ur character only to have a "update" ruin your progress. I fucking hate these updates. Let the game live at least 2 years then update!

Let the game live at least 2 years then update! That's a bit too long imo, it can get stale if there's no change in 2 years. Besides if you really know your charcter, you shouldn't have too much progress to make up even if they were nerfed.

alucard19 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Yeah but still its annoying, and maybe 2 years is a bit too long. At least a year tho.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Unless they increase the FRC window for netplay it'll definitely be harder. Kinda hoping for this during netplay in this game.

BladeOfJustice7 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 ...What? The way he said was very A.D.D-oriented but, when a game is out for a while (I can't quantify what "a while is", since it depends on the person) a game gets stale with there being less new technology to discover. Not that it can't be done, it's just that a new iteration of a game breathes new life into a community with there being new technology and tactics to discover..

Yeah, I sometimes have problems wording things...but pretty much this. The other thing is that the scene tends to die down over time, and when there's no one to play it's no fun. Like when everyone I knew gave up Blazblue for Dissidia and two friends and I were the only ones who still played, and I didn't even have netplay (well, I did have one month). Then when BBCSEX came out, everyone suddenly started playing again.
Blade Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Honestly, Guilty Gear is the only game I have yet to get sick of amongst my other fighting games. Call it a love for heavy metal, call it the style...call it the crazy plot...I dunno. But everything about it is just that much more engaging to me than my other collections. This game can't come to PSN soon enough...really.

Then when BBCSEX came out, everyone suddenly started playing again. I more or less experienced the same thing but, luckily I have a community of fellow BB players whom I also engage the game with and are into it as much as me. Granted I don't always have the time to attend meetups. It's good to have a community of players, and csex is by far the most intricately developed iteration of the game. I disliked cs2, and my love of cs1 was because hakumen was so incredibly strong for no reason. Honestly, Guilty Gear is the only game I have yet to get sick of amongst my other fighting games. This game can't come to PSN soon enough...really. it's because GG was ArcSys' way of blatantly challenging Capcom and their Street Fighter series (GGX sprites were drawn exactly to be 2-4 times the size of SF sprites, can't remember the number). If that's not a blatant challenge to Capcom I don't know what is.

qwerty Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 You shouldn't have to be constantly discovering new things in order to enjoy a game. Maybe that's what Capcom and Namco are trying to sell these days, but it says a lot about a game if people drop it as soon as it's "figured out".

2Zak Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I do not see how that could be a problem though, cause anyone worth playing will have moved on to the newer game. Also, unless it's a free downloadable patch, the community will be split anyway. I mean: If you don't want to buy a new game (for some weird reason, leaving "NO MONIEZ" aside), you surely don't want to buy a new patch either. You shouldn't have to be constantly discovering new things in order to enjoy a game. Maybe that's what Capcom and Namco are trying to sell these days, but it says a lot about a game if people drop it as soon as it's "figured out". ^This.

Maybe that's what Capcom and Namco are trying to sell these days, but it says a lot about a game if people drop it as soon as it's "figured out". Who are you responding too? And I can't say I agree, the reason I play GG and not stuff like SF4 is because the game is so openminded. It feels like it's made for you to figure out new ways to catch your opponents with their pants down every time you play. SF4 on the other hand is pretty much the same every game; at least it always has been from my pov.
qwerty Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Lost in translation? I mean that you shouldn't have to play a game for only as long as it has that "new game smell". Having an unrestrictive system like Guilty Gear's is one thing, but only playing a game for the sake of discovering new stuff is another thing entirely. I agree with your point, but that wasn't what I was saying.
reaVer Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Hmmm, it's what I read and what you said again in your third sentence :D Though maybe consider it like this: if you have discovered everything about the game and know how to beat all your opponents... do you feel like the game is still challenging you? And no, it doesn't need the new game smell and I know that a LOT of game companies release games for people to learn within the year(so they can buy the next of the series). But most of the games that have lasted more than a decade, new stuff has always been found for them. So discovering new things is really important for a game in my opinion.
qwerty Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I for one would argue that, for the most part, AC has been "figured out" for quite some time now. It's not that you never see anything new anymore, but the optimal styles of play for each character have been known for over two years now. While there may be some new things popping up every so once in awhile, the game hasn't drastically changed since 2009. There's really nothing wrong with that as Guilty Gear is a good enough game to play without having to constantly (key word here) discover new things. As you put it, games that are "flavor of the month" (gratuitous use of quotation marks ITT) are all the rage nowadays, and they're fostering a breed of fighting game player that gets bored of any game that isn't constantly changing. The motivation here isn't necessarily to get good at the game, rather to discover some TOP TIER TECH THAT NOBODY'S SEEN YET and blow people up at tournaments. I think Marvel 3 is the worst offender in that regard. Is discovering new stuff fun? Oh hell yes. Is it the reason you play fighting games? It shouldn't be.

Xtra_Zero Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 This isn't tic tac toe. There may be an optimal set of strategies, but at the end of the day the game is only a medium through which to interact with others. Since the game is not turn-based, even if there is a "perfect" strategy, there is only so close you can get to it and that strategy may even change rapidly throughout the match. The opponent's decisions and how you interact with them is ultimately what the game is about.

Meowmix Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 So, I honestly think the thing I'm most excited about for the re-release of GG will be the ability for people to send me hate mail after matches.

Kyosuke Kagami Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 So, guys, I did hear somewhere that this game is gonna be released too AND it'll have tweaks (minor ones, but it will). Any official confirmation of this?
