Chazmobile Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I wonder what they can do to make Relius better. From what I've seen, his biggest weakness is that Ignis disappears whenever he/she gets hit or if he/you tech a grab. That which in turn makes her meter refill slower for a limited time. He also has to find an opening to summon/withdraw her every single time. For one, they can make it so that she doesn't disappear after teching a grab. Secondly, I guess they can reduce the refill penalty. Third, it wouldn't hurt to give him better combo options sans Ignis. He's pretty much fucked without Ignis lol. Honestly that's just one of his flaws. Another of his main weaknesses is that he has literally no good-mixup and can't really open up people who don't like to push buttons. Ignis' life is so low that when he does eventually get a combo in, he either has to resort to shitty damage or give up his oki afterwards so that Ignis doesn't die and render him useless. His only good normals on the ground are his 5b and 2b. He's completely free on the defense without 50 meter because Led Ley is so unreliable, even with Ignis out. 2c is kinda iffy as an anti-air. Relius is a good example of a polarised character done wrong, I am all for his defense and his game without Ignis being shitty if his reward for having Ignis out can balance out this inherent weakness (think Eddie in GG but obviously toned down), which it doesn't at the moment. We actually have a wish list thread in the Relius forum in which I posted a few changes would help him reach this balance of being really, really good with Ignis out but really weak without her. It's clear that Arcsys designed him to become a very strong character with Ignis active, yet sub-par without Ignis with an emphasis more on zoning the opponent in order to safely summon her. With this in mind, here are a few ideas to help complement this reliance on Ignis: -Speed up his overhead to 18-20 frames but make him only be able to get a reward off of it with Ignis out, or if he spends 50 meter without Ignis. -Give him a command grab which can be followed up with Ignis out, but requires 50 meter otherwise. -Only make Ignis go into slow regen if she herself is hit, at the moment it seems as though she goes into slow regen if Relius is even breathed on. This coupled with her low life means that Relius is left without Ignis for a lot of the match, and that he has to sacrifice damage and pressure in order to keep her alive a lot of the time. Some more Ignis life would be nice too. -Make his 2c a good anti-air, everyone wants this. Possibly some small hitbox adjustments on some other normals like 6b. These are just some thoughts I had today that would help make Relius with Ignis active the offensive God that Arcsys seemed to want him to be, but a Relius without Ignis to be hindered. Obviously he doesn't need all of these, but just one or two would help him a lot, the mix-up ones especially. /longpost
Moy_X7 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) I got the short end of the stick since I don't play any of the heavy zoner characters. Plat does make him cry with her pressure, mix-up, and oki though. I have to get in though and that means dancing with death itself if I slip even once lol. @Chaz - good stuff on covering his various weaknesses. I hope a few of those wishes come true in the next game. I'd learn how to play him but I got my hands full with Jin and specially Plat, I also want to learn how to play Phantom/Nine if/once she is made playable. I like her psycho bitch character and I'm hoping that they can come up with something interesting using her magic. Edited June 4, 2012 by Moy_X7
Mucky Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 What are the other ones besides Litchi? mu/lambda/hazama: zone tager all day every day carl: 99% of the time, tager will be on the receiving end of shenanigans ragna: outbullshits tager, 3k meterless damage in the corner from a C ID really blows my mind hakumen: he has an answer to any of tager's oki options, though not all at the same time so he isn't as stupid as ragna arakune: no comment tao/valkenhayn: fuck you arcsys, just fuck you
floatwater Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Two beastkins that say NOPE to magnets. good shit.

Haha so do I man, he really only needs one or two tweaks to make him perfect in my eyes like I said. Whatever, everyone in Extend in viable and I could never drop Relius regardless of how good/bad he is because I love his character and playstyle too much. All I need now is Kokonoe and BB will be absolutely perfect for me, i've been waiting for that women since CT goddammit. Oh and GGs to the random people I played on BB today, that is what this thread is for after all. Edited June 4, 2012 by Chazmobile
SkyKing Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Mashing all day, get @ me, I don't even remember playing you today though. He was watching me play. >:3 GGs though. I noticed you used up a lot of your nails too fast or what I thought were w/o much thought. I was DP'ing through most of those that I knew weren't spaced right. I wonder how my Noel would have done... xD

Ps. I was dropping combos like crazy, sorry for that horrible display.
gli Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The lower level your account, the more likely it is you will get corpse beaten if you give higher level opponents trouble!

A.X.I.S. Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Tager life has been suffering from day one. Haters just don't know.
TD Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The lower level your account, the more likely it is you will get corpse beaten if you give higher level opponents trouble! l for one don't discriminate. lol... consider it a punishment for losing. easiest way to get a foe thinking (or angry )
toanenadiz Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 l for one don't discriminate. lol... consider it a punishment for losing. easiest way to get a foe thinking (or angry ) You taunt people midmatch and don't care about it. You aren't normal.
advancedNoob Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Relius has no mix up? Rofl! I guess unblockables are a shitty option
TD Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 You taunt people midmatch and don't care about it. You aren't normal. this is also fun. its like once ppl see a taunt theyre completely thrown off.. hellooooo i'm still standing XD but its especially fun when l can cover my taunt with a pumpkin ftw.

I just try to win at spacing. Hakumen is like... mash hotaru and you'll eventually get one of them to hit and change the match around Arakune is broken. Tao only pisses me off because there is no way I can make her block it. Valk depends on which valk it is. Valks that can't zone for the entire match lose pretty quick. Carl is ok. Just wished he wasn't doing IAD j.2C all the time.
SkyKing Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 ...Tager has a hard life. Except at what most of the others would love to do...body Noel for free. T.T
Psykotik Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Carl is ok. Just wished he wasn't doing IAD j.2C all the time. If you even suspect that he's going to do it, backdash to 360 punishes it. It's one of the reasons why I don't IAD j.2C against (good) Tagers too often. BTW, do you go to UW?

If you actually respect them you're probably going to get hit by a shitty mix up anyway. Even on knockdown he doesn't have enough time to stop you from upbacking. :V Edited June 4, 2012 by Lich
Rhiya Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The unblockables all take a good 60f You're better off spending that kind of startup time on Val Tus for covered mixup, or, better yet, just covering mixup with 2D

Not yet but next year I'll be in UW Electrical Engineering.
