I thought kara barrier happens when someone does a distortion and you are still in the startup of your move. Like you're running and dash 5b, Litchi does Daisharin, and you end up barrier blocking if you still didn't have the move officially out and used barrier during the superflash.

Not 100% sure if that's the only time you can cancel a move with barrier though.

You can cancel any move, any time you're in I think the first 4 frames of startup.
