gonna play some bb tonight

i still have a couple of tournies lined up, so i gotta stay sharp i guess

Posted (edited)

I think everyone who is quitting any fighter for a game that is not released yet or doesn't have a release date is a fucking idiot.

Why can't you play both?

Edit: no provocation for me saying this.

I was gonna hop on BB but instead I am gonna do other things, may hop on BB later tonight.

Perhaps. Well for star all i can say is if you get frustrated in bb just take a deep breath, open a red bull, down it fast, smile and say.... swag. then you will fly with wings......eventually.

I drink vitamin water, but yeah, I try. usually after an hour or so I pull it together, but I usually just burn out much faster. I really want more days where I'm more durable to loss and solid in game.

@Moy:

KOF13 is a really good game, but I think rather limited, and I wonder how fun it really is when netplay is not feature rich or high performance. People usually get squashed very hard in that game, and the most fun it gets is at the top 5% level. If anyone wants KOF13 games lemme know. I probably could handle salt in that game since I can East Coast OS that all day. I can't do that in this game.

This is why MAHVEL is so successful and popular. The game has an astonishing amount of crap, but is probably fun at all levels of play.

As for BlazBlue - dude, if we are to believe the numbers posted here a month or so ago, not even 20000 people bought this game. If we take the top 5% of 15000 (since 5% of userbase reads forums based on larger games - I've seen 5% be of practical usefulness for finding this out), 750 people read this forum for blazblue. The top 5% of these people amount to 38 people that are actually good at this game in the US.

America has 38 BlazBlue players that are "worth a damn" - someplace out there.

Time. Everyone can't spread their free time across multiple games. Better try to get good at one game instead of being crap in a bunch.

Time investments. If we are to believe the effort needed for a good game based on what guys like Sanford say, it takes around 3 years to get good at a game. This requires a lot of 14 hour shifts and a lot of focus and dedication to the game. TBH I don't have that in me anymore - the last 14 hour gaming shift I had was Camping Vex Thal Key parts.

Shoutouts to anyone old enough to know what those fucking things were, btw...

I think I'll jump back on the game in a bit...

Uhm, I also think that, why would anyone continue to play a dead game? I mean, I'll probably keep playing BB here and there because I do love it, seriously I do; however, eeeeveryone is moving to persona, the scene is going to be more dead than it is right now. =[

Damn, I guess I have to wait one more year to get good at blazblue then. Snap, I mean, I've only been playing fighting games as a whole for two. Thank you Star demon for enlightening me.

Actually, Lich, if you think about the amount of BB locals here (the two thaat are streamed are the only ones? Maybe!), you may end up ranking higher on the top 40 worthadamn rankings than you think.

if youre smart and can figure out your char, it doesnt take that long to get good at a game, especially if youre playing from day 1

getting good at fighting games in general takes years

I was mostly joking. lol What LK said, I don't think it takes a specific amount of time to get good. Dedication is a must, but everyone levels up at their own pace.

Actually you can get good at a game and only practice said game maybe once or twice a week.

I generally do this with BB since I already did the "Play this game for 4-7 hours a day" routine.

That was me for CT-CS2.

Honestly the only game I got good at is BB because I don't own or play the others much.

I'd play marvel if I had it.

No one in MI plays Skullgirls.

I already pre-ordered p4u and will take over the Kanji forums. That shit is destiny I will not be stopped.

usually the more time passes the less i play, usually spend that time thinking about stuff

if there's an important tournament on the horizon, ill practice a ton

I'm not even touching netplay with that game aside from people in Indianapolis. That's right, only people in the same city lol. Like I said before, it's one of the few games that get played around here and I pretty much grew up playing the KoF series as a kid so it does hold a bit of a special place in my heart lmao. I'm not really worried about being super competitive in that game, just enough so that I'm not completely free. Then again, most people here are not that good at that game so I'm just trying to find some common ground here.

Umm... what does that have to do with anything? Just play and have fun at a competitive level. You don't have to aim to be one of the top 38 players in the US lol.

America has 38 BlazBlue players that are "worth a damn" - someplace out there.

There are more than that from my point of view. Then again, who even gets to decide which players are "worth a damn".

Time. Everyone can't spread their free time across multiple games. Better try to get good at one game instead of being crap in a bunch.

Pretty much this, most people don't wanna learn like 10 games and only be proficient at about 2 or 3.

lol, what are you even on about? Just invest a few hours here and there and call it a day. Again, it's not the aim of most people to become one of the top players. We just wanna play the damn game at a competitive level.

Uhm, I also think that, why would anyone continue to play a dead game? I mean, I'll probably keep playing BB here and there because I do love it, seriously I do; however, eeeeveryone is moving to persona, the scene is going to be more dead than it is right now. =[

It's not that DEAD, as long as about 20 people play the game, then we're kinda good lol.

Mmm, now I kinda feel like getting Persona but again, I'm gonna have my hands full with the future BB, GG, and KoF XIII.

Real talk you should all play soul calibur because everyone online forgets to map their guard button and running full screen hitting buttons should be everyone's life purpose.

One, two, okay my turn?

Hmm...I wouldn't say that I'm great at BB (I base my gameplay on watching what my opponent does and exploiting their weaknesses if they have any), I just know shit that works and I watch plenty of JP videos and imitate some of the stuff they do. I admit I hate blocking online, I truly do. I usually don't block or tech grabs because, most of the time when I do I either get an accidental backdash when I try instant blocking, TRM or it just doesn't register. Offline however, I'm quite content with my defense (I can block Valk wolf-mixup, Carl shenanigans and Arakune curse mixup :v: FUCK YARRR). One of my major weaknesses is that I go for overheads ALL THE TIME, why? idk, I'm used to people just holding 1 or 3 (and mashing A) when I'm on offense and I usually get them that way. Another weakness of mine is leaving gaps in my pressure strings, Severin has blown me up MANY times for doing this, but slowly I'm starting to leave false gaps so that people can mash something extremely punishable. My point is, everyone has weaknesses and admitting to them is the first step to improving yourself. Second is making said weaknesses into your strengths. Only then can you start your path into becoming a better player. Hell, I've lost more matches than actually winning, I honestly don't mind losing if it's completely legit, it just means that I need to improve and I am always up for improvement. Star, you need to take one of these days to just sit down and figure out what is wrong with the stuff that you're doing, don't play the game, just analyze and see what you can do to slowly improve your overall game.

tl:dr- Check out Jourdal's or PKtazn's Youtube channel. You'll find inspiration.

skill is pretty subjective anyways, isnt it?

i have really high standards, but someone else can consider a player id say is just "ok" to be really good

anyway as long as you have fun it doesnt matter lol

^^ That

Toan's quote will forever be engraved in my mind... "No amount of effort can overcome a lack of talent." If you ain't got it then you just ain't got it, doesn't mean you can't have fun.

I end up in the same situation when it comes to playing bb. the less competitive ppl are in bb the more i dont see the reason to almost play anymore it takes the " oh i wanna make it to the top with them pros sometime soon" away from me when i pop the game in. thats just me but i try to keep myself preoccupied with bb by helping or just living in training mode for a few hours before i play a few matches. its one of the reasons i keep playing cuz either i cant connect to random rooms well or i get kicked cuz i play noel _-_ so i cant give the MLK speech about being discriminated cuz no one will give a damn and be like "nigga sit your azz down and stay free..."

It's ok, I'm sure we will be having the exact same conversation 5 to 10 pages from now. Just like we have been for the last year or more.
