You understand that in this context, "games"is very broad. The only issue I hear of Japanese games not doing so well is only in the western countries, I.e. America and Europe, since western developers have obtained a monopoly on the demographic. Games are doing great in Japan, and even if it wasn't, BlazBlue is an extremely popular fg franchise in Japan. The fact that LE BBCP preorders sold out almost instantaneously after its announcement is a great testament to that.

This isn't really true at all; For those following the news, there are two phenomena that are happening in Japan that makes this seem like a bad move for Arc Sys;

#1: Arcades are fading. Yes. They are. They're not dead or anything, but they are definitely losing ground. Daigo Umehara has been doing all kinds of tours and stuff trying to promote arcades. This is a known issue, and you would think it would lead Arc Sys to try to support good console sales for their titles. Though it's obvious enough that this is also playing into the HUGE delay on the console release.

#2: Japan is trending away from traditional consoles in general, and towards handhelds and mobile devices. This, too, would, you'd think, lead them to make the game for the console that has the distinct numbers advantage in their "#2 territory" (the US).

Arc Sys' traditional markets are shrinking in Japan.

The ratio between "losing money" with a popular franchise meeting what is considered its best iteration released on a leading console versus releasing it on a console that just doesn't sell enough is wide, very wide.

Personally I still think that the reasons are more legal or convenient than it is financial. That would explain even the western markets not getting an xbox version.

It's not "losing money", but I think it really IS "leaving money on the table" to not publish an Xbox version abroad. I agree that it's probably more to do with Microsoft than anything else though.

BB is still more popular on PS3 than 360 in the US, it doesn't matter if the 360 itself is more popular here.

Spending money to make, ship, etc games that may or may not sell, in a minor market to begin with, can be seen as losing money.

I refuse to believe that Arc Sys is SO incompetant that they can't budget a port to make a profit when it sells over 200k copies.

Except...the Xbox versions don't sell anywhere near that amount.

Look, as a guy who just had his PS3 brick, I'm annoyed about this too, but there's not much we can do besides pick up a PS3 on the cheap when the PS4 comes out.

Airk, do you have any experience in business?

To help with the debate, I found this.

Though I was unable to find the sale figured for CSEX on the 360.

(2009) BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger [PS3] – 33,768 | 57,796

(2009) BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger [360] – 24,812 | 36,065

(2010) BlazBlue: Continuum Shift [PS3] – 49,871 | 85,152

(2010) BlazBlue: Continuum Shift [360] – 16,184 | 22,543

If that's how much copies they sold on the left side, that's 33,000 less than PS3. At that point i can definitely understand as to why they didn't port.

So CS (360) didn't even catch up to PS3's first week?

According to these charts yes, and the disparity in sales between the two systems increases with each iteration of BB. I went to vg chartz, and when i went to look at the 360 CSEX sales I couldn't find anything, but I was able to find them for both the ps3 and even the vita. Which indicates to me that CSEX didn't sell very well with the 360. So I could see why ArcSys would opt not to release the game on the 360.

Personally the extremely low sales on the xbox I feel are attributed to 2 main factors; the xbox remote, and the increasing affordability of the ps3 as years have been going by.

By these sales one would expect the CP sales to be abysmal, simply because of these 2 factors. Though that's just my personal opinion.

You also have to realize that to some degree xbox sales cannibalize ps3 sales. Sell more overall, sure. But we've even got diehard exboxers on psn lately.

wat?

This is true, I'm an example of that.

I'm waiting for PIMP KOTOMINE (mAc chaos) to join the PSN ranks so he can makes me fight myself :kitty:

... but uh, the cannibalisation thing sounds kind of weird. It's not like all people with PS3 also has a 360.

in short, if they release it on both systems, some people will buy it on xbox instead of ps3. Who knows what the number is. But they aren't losing all those xbox people.

I... still don't know what kind of point you're trying to make there... Wait are you even making a point? Your cannibalism thing makes less than a lot of sense....

He's saying the XBOX sales are not really that low because a lot of the people that would have bought it on XBOX got it on PS3 instead.

If he meant that than he woulda said the PS3 was the one cannibalizing, though...

And even then, the 360 sales are still really that low. I don't think anybody says a console is cannibalizing the others' sales whenever something multiplatform comes out :v:

Anyone but Errol, anyways :vbang:
