cp24eva Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Hi folks. Not sure if this is the right place to put my question, but here goes nothing. I just stared trying to play blazblue seriously. Bought the game last week and I love it. I have no luck competing online. I get pinned down and rush down all the time. I can't seem to get my combos started. What are your best starters for combos? Her range seems a bit lacking. Also, I can't seem to perfect my running when trying to 2D>5B. Seems in my mind a have to count 1234. Lol. What are 3 BnBs I can try and lock into? Finally, how long realistically did it take you to get decent at this? I come from a street fighter and tekken background.
HiagoX Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 hi Have you checked out this thread? It's outdated but it explains combo theory and starters in detail! As for your basic combos, try these: anything into 5CC > 214AC~CCCCC (midscreen) 6B~C > 214A~C~B > 5CC > 2D (level 1) > 5B > 6A > j.B > dj.B > j.623C (crouch only) Throw > 214A~A > dash 5B > 6A > j.B > dj.B > j.623C (midscreen throw combo) 5B > 6C > 214A~C > 236D > 6A > 2D > 6B~C > 5D > 236A for okizeme (corner) Throw > 236D > 6B~C > 5D > 236A for okizeme (corner throw combo) As for your last question, it should take a while. You'll probably get frustrated at first because Makoto is not only a weak character right now, but she has a very basic design while other characters in this game can do so much and surprise you with how bizarre their designs might feel. Play frequently enough, don't get upset and you'll be fine!
cp24eva Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Thanks a lot. I may have to consider the difficulty of her play style. I didn't realize that she was considered that low tier until I did some research and event hubs. Seems that the characters I like are lower tier other than bang.
swordsman09 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 She's not just considered low tier, she's considered the worst in the game. Don't worry about that though, tiers are stupid anyway. You may find it difficult to play in lag. You'll be fine though.
Ragnarok_F4 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Tiers aren't that bad here in this game, she is indeed low tier, but it is not that you won't be able to win at all. Probably she is one of the characters that needs more footsie work than others, and good yomi too and for that you need matchup knowledge and for that you need to play. And a good Makoto can be quite scary too and can win, she has good damage, good pressure, short range. Just go play and have fun and the rest will come, however there's already a bunch of veterans in this game so it is frustrating at first (like almost any other FG) so patience is vital. It doesn't matter which character will you pick, is gonna be difficult at first, except Azrael that is easy to pick and has so much damage and maybe Kokonoe that has so many tools.
cp24eva Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Yeah, I found Makoto lacking in range which was annoying. Last night I did training mode for a while. Set the opponent to COM and too 100. Oh yeah, my opponent was ragna. He mopped me up for about 20 minutes before I quit and said something isn't right. My issue was A is too short, B is too slow, whenever try to start with B after I block string, he counters me. I definitely need footsies work and better timing with 2D.
Onilink Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Finally, how long realistically did it take you to get decent at this? I come from a street fighter and tekken background. Ahh, I too come from a Street Fighter and Tekken background. I subbed Makoto in CSE, but now I switched to main her in CP. I can play against the CPU easily .. but, of course, when facing real opponents, I get crushed. Being stuck in Street Fighter mode hasn't done anything good for me! I suppose I'll just do some reading up around here and then go get actual gameplay experience this weekend. The only way to get better is to play the game and practice, after all.
cp24eva Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I think I need to focus more on execution vs a dummy. I also have to learn to keep a cool head while playing. I get caught up trying to aerial combo with a DP included facing right side lol. I use a joystick. I switch to a hex gate, but I might go back to square.
cp24eva Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 OK.so I have another issue. I can't retaliate because my range too short how do you guys do with that? It seems that once I finish my block string I can't pull up the counter attack because I'm too far away and the opponent overwhelms me. Do I have to choose a character with more range? It seems whatever normal I tried to do the opponent just too far away.
mAc Chaos Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 For characters like that you have to do a tiny dash right before you do your attack so you slide forward a bit.
cp24eva Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Noted. I have a lot of time this weekend. I need to jump on a group with the same level of skill as me or a tad better. I will say this, when I made a very conscious effort to stop mashing and do combos, it sometimes worked. I'm finding her best normal for a starter is 5b.
Kcin Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Well I'm planning to jump online in a few hours to spar, replay showcase, and just play the game since I haven't all week. I'm aiming for 1pm EST to jump online and the room. Look for Something squirrel themed or my name online if people are interested/free
swordsman09 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I hope I'll be able to make that. I don't get off school till 5.
Ragnarok_F4 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I'm finding her best normal for a starter is 5b. Definitely. 5A combos are really short and has low damage (useful for mashing out some stuff since is a fast 5A though). 5C is a very fast C (faster than her 5B, and faster than a lot 5C of the cast), it leads to great combos with lots of damage, but is very short, so you have to be careful. 5B is decent in terms of speed, but has a good reach, is 1 frame slower than ragna's and 1 frame faster than bullet's all of them has a similar reach. 5B also leads to a lot of combos. So yes, I think that her best starter is her 5B, and as mAc said you will have to do a mini-dash to punish some things before attacking.
cp24eva Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I'm going to hit the lab tonight lol. I have to hash out some strategies. Thanks. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Onilink Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Well, I hopped online today, played quite a few matches online. I did bad. And I don't mean just a little bad. I mean I did TERRIBLY. Horribly bad. I won ONE single round all day today. Just one round - not one match, one round. One round that I'm not even proud of winning 'cause the dude didn't even try after he crushed me in round one. Then in round three, he crushed me again. And to top it all off, I got taunted in pretty much EVERY round. And that just pissed me off, honestly. I get it, I completely suck and you can wipe the floor with me, I get it. You don't have to taunt me just because you're so much better. Really, I've already told myself I quit. I've already given up. I just feel like I don't have what it takes to play BlazBlue well, and after seeing all of those taunts -.- I don't even care anymore. I really, really don't. I've already told myself that I should just stick to Street Fighter. Except even though I said all that shit, I'll probably just go right back in tomorrow or the next day and try again. But for right now, I'm just done. Oh, and this isn't just for Makoto, I played more than just her .. Although, I played her quite a bit, so I guess it could fit in here too.

I'm in the same boat. I say the same thing. My wife asks me why I don't just trade the game in for Wolfenstein. I say, "because I ain't no punk b****! Gator don't take s*** from nobody. So now I'm in the lab. Combos every day. Just to get the muscle memory part down. I'm not going online for a week or two. Just combos and defense against the training dummy. Like I'm going to do 100 of the same combo a day...just that one. And then move to the next combo. But the hard part of the game to me is surviving the onslaught of attacks from players and then being able to mount a sound retaliation. This game seems more like who can pressure the other first and keep keep the momentum going. Defense is key, and I need practice. Look up some tutorials by omex on YouTube. Good luck. mAc Chaos Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 You guys could play with my friends that are learning the game if you want. I play sets with them every few days. I want them to get exposed to other characters besides Hakumen anyway.
MoneyD90 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Sounds like you guys are playing ppl that are much above your skill lvl. Yes, it's good to play better ppl but if the skill lvl of the other player is that much higher you won't really learn anything. Like Mac Chaos said, add ppl with like skill/block color to your friends list and you should be good to go for now.
Dark Ranger88 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Here's some stupid stuff you can do vs Mu: 1.) You can parry her match-start 5C (a popular choice for Mu lol). If you successfully parry the 5C, don't press anything and let the autopilot 6C whiff through your parry's invulnerability. After the 6C whiffs you can Lvl 3 Space counter or Dash 5B for a free combo. 2.) Parry/Clash with her 6C: After you block Mu's 5C (or get normal hit while standing lol), you can punish Mus who like to go straight into 6C. Parrying after the 5C will catch 6C and you can space counter (note: I haven't tested all of her options). You can also DP, which will clash with the 6C. You can immediately cancel into a followup attack, or you can let the DP's momentum take you into the air, whiff a j.A/j.B then land on Mu with a j.C.

My main problem is charging her drive, though. In game, that is. In the lab, I don't have trouble hitting my combos. I feel like it's kinda a mix between connections and my nerves when facing another player.
Goldchampion200 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Soo any more squirrels want in the on (soo far super silent) Skype group?
Dark Ranger88 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc812E3yy5M The voices at the beginning and end of the video are not me. They are my brothers, who I told to keep quiet
swordsman09 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Thanks for showing me a way to deal with that tech. That's been bothering me.
