D.R.F. Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Combo difficulty comes from 1f links, combo complexity comes from different choices for different situations. my bad
Henaki Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I think we are arguing the same thing with different words. I should also note I think SF4 was designed in part with online play in mind. Actually now that I think about it, why didn't sf4 just put the input window they have for special moves on their normals? So you could lazily do all the 1f links? Seems in line with their design philosophy. Anyhow... that's a bit too off topic for here. because capcom is bad at video game design
Sergeant Dull Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Ignoring the "interesting difference of opinions" and so on in the thread, I just wanna say this game is giving me chills down my spine sending me straight back to 1998. While the current Xrd system set isn't what everyone thinks is "perfect", I think it's a great starting point for the beginning of a new series. We all saw the progression of XX to AC+R; Xrd is going to be great, its successors will be awesome and the scene will thrive with all the new attention and competitors! (the fact that baby trolls are trying to create dissent is 100% proof of it's future success)
shtkn Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 it's fine to have dissenting opinions, but i'm starting to get flashbacks to the BB vs. GG flamewars of the past. If i see anymore of that behavior, i'm not giving you a warning, i'm banning you for a week. thankfully it seems that's died down. whether you think xrd/bb/+r/p4/etc. is good or bad, treat each other with common decency.
Hecatom Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 snip Like i said, i was typing on my phone so i didn't type everything Of course i know that more options doesn't necessarily transfer into more depth, i even adress that onb my postr by saying that is about how those options affect your strategy. I think that i should have wrote: That depth is about meaningful options (character tools, system options, etc) and how they influence your strategy. The part of less options less depth comes on how there is an evident lose with YRC vs FRC and how both of them work Do you guys think Xrd will be better if they put in things like rolling on wakeup? I'm surprised people aren't talking about this. If having more options mean more depth, shouldn't this be in Guilty Gear? I know that you are trolling but meh. It is because GG is not BB and the design philosophies are different I think we are arguing the same thing with different words. Because for some dumb reason someone at capcom thought that hardcore players digged doing 1f links
ElvenShadow Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Perhaps my last post was a bit unnecessary. Sorry for the wall of text that didn't contribute to the important parts of the discussion.
BladeOfJustice7 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Your posts are always appreciated elven. You're the bright Xrd light a midst all these gloomy wall of texts. It's not the GG wanted, not even the GG we needed, but the GG that is necessary. And it's willing to be the -SIGN- that the world needs it to be. We shall chase it, harass it, bash it. And we'll continue to do so, because we know it can take it.[/end comic book quotes] Naw but seriously, it's nice to see someone enjoy the game this much and is one of the top players in all of Japan. It gets people like me excited, and it's way more encouraging since you've been playing so long, you're like a voice for OG players who were/are looking for something new, and encouraging newer players that investing in Xrd will still be a good entry point for them into the GG franchise. Without calling Xrd a fake scrubby version of GG. Much appreciated, and continue with your 12th Dan RR Faust
TAI-X Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 because capcom is bad at video game design Let's not forget that Dimps (DBZ Budokai, Rumble Fish dev) was largely responsible for the framework and design of SFIV.
Henaki Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Let's not forget that Dimps (DBZ Budokai, Rumble Fish dev) was largely responsible for the framework and design of SFIV. Capcom is responsible for the oversight and design of SF4, which pins any bad decision making as their responsibility, BUT, this is getting off topic, and I think Combofiend improved the design decisions of Capcom immensily with how ultra turned out.
AllyOfJustice Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I know that you are trolling but meh. It is because GG is not BB and the design philosophies are different "Hey do you think the game will be better if _______" I don't understand how asking that is considered trolling. Nothing in that post is even remotely negative.
D.R.F. Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Rolling is something pretty hit or miss. You either love it or hate it. I personally cant stand it unless it is in a 3D fighter, because it gives the attacker less of an advantage. And your responses seem like you either are the ultimate pessimest or are being obnoxious. Moving on, are you guys okay with having different costumes? I like it, but I hope we get a lot more color palettes. I miss watching Roi with his zombie sol color (HS)
destruction_adv Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 So, for the people that went to E3, was the Ps4 pad comfortable for XrD. I'll probably get a stick myself sometime after my PS4 but I'm curious about the controller I'll get with the system.
TheRealBobMan Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 The Dpad feels pretty good, but I still prefer a stick layout for the buttons, and I mess up some inputs on pad that I wouldn't mess up on stick. I'd rather use a PS4 controller than a PS3 or PS2 controller though.
Bloodcrave Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylcxZZ20Omc i guess this confirms that ps4 version will run at 1080p 60 fps?

That's good to hear, TBH I get callouses on my thumb playing even BB on a PS3 pad, so hopefully that is less of an issue (or Iyou'll all be able to see just how hard I'm mashing with one look).
Hecatom Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Let's not forget that Dimps (DBZ Budokai, Rumble Fish dev) was largely responsible for the framework and design of SFIV. Nope, they are responsible of developing the games (SFIV), but all the design decisions are made by capcom, specifically Neo G (IIRC) since he is the battle director and the person who decides what kind of mechanics end on the game..
EL_TRO Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Moving on, are you guys okay with having different costumes? I like it, but I hope we get a lot more color palettes. I miss watching Roi with his zombie sol color (HS) Some of the character I would like classic outfit but I prefer more color selection.
Akujikan Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Honestly, I think outfits would be fun. I really liked Sol's GG2 outfit, classic skins for characters like Pot and Millia, etc. I know they said they didn't want to harm a character's image, so we probably won't be getting any silly ones (which are the only kind of alt skins I can even think of for Bedman), but I'm sure they could do some interesting things. That said, colors are tried and true and you sure can't go wrong with adding to the default 6(?) colors.
D.R.F. Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Personally i thought his outfit was lame but yea im excited
EL_TRO Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I dig the new designs but I really want to see some of the classic ones in the new games. Mostly curious in how it'll look.
Jakestation Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylcxZZ20Omc i guess this confirms that ps4 version will run at 1080p 60 fps? This looks so damn good.

Don't think they need to keep a secret on those questions (like new char etc), so...

I miss watching Roi with his zombie sol color (HS)You have no idea what things I'd do for a Baldhead costume. Actually, simply having Faust without the bag would do the trick (the change of his character is probably too big to make a simple costume change look natural at this point). Faust deserves any amount of love he can get, even our local subforum is dead. Did you managed to ask something to the Aksys guys? Especially about stick compatibility and region lock?Don't think they need to keep a secret on those questions (like new char etc), so...I think he already said he couldn't.[off-topic]For anyone who cares about my opinion, the BB roll system does not actually give the player more options, since there is only one correct way to tech in most situations. If you go for it, you end up on top, if you don't, you get stuck in the vortex. There might be choice involved, but it's more like a quiz than an interview, if you know what I mean.[/off-topic]
