How likely do you guys think it will be for them to actually run a side tourney for Xrd at EVO?

Not very. Persona didn't have one the year it came out, and the killer instinct side tournament they had last year was announced pretty early.

Honestly a side tournament would probably do more harm than good unless it was an exhibition with certain players; nothing kills hype for a game faster than watching people who don't know what they're doing try to play.

Sadly, this is true. Seen plenty of Youtube comments on E3 matches for GGXrd and P4U talking about how "bad" or "mashy" the games look, when the obvious reality is that the players involved are either trying new characters/mechanics or aren't even fighting game players at all.

comments on the internet are universally filled with vitriol. dont use them as a judgment.

Gameplay impressions from Maximilian Dood.

I don't really follow Max so I don't know how hardcore he is into fighters, but he has almost nothing but good things to say about the game, for whatever that's worth to you.  The only bit of info I hadn't heard before is that the 60+ person lobbies from BBCP are apparently out.  Can't say I'll miss those too much, personally.  Huge lobbies are a neat idea in theory, but I just don't think the technology is there yet.  I'd rather have more smooth matches than be able to wander around a virtual arcade full of one-bar connections.

Obviously Max is not a hardcore GG player and a few of his facts are a bit off about the history of the series but overall I agree with his impressions. I'm also really glad to hear that they are serious about making the netcode and online play as good as they can.

Also, I don't care about rediculously giant lobbies. Ranked is all I pretty much plan to play and as long as it runs smooth then I'm happy.

I actually don't like the giant BB lobbies. They were novel for a minute but now are just annoying to sit around in. I just hope the netcode is good.

The thing I don't really like about Max is that he wants to bring all kinds of fighting games to people, but since it's hard for him to play the games he doesn't care about (which is perfectly understandable), it all comes back to SF and KI sooner or later. Because of that, I kinda have to wonder how long Xrd is going to last for him, since airdashers are not really his thing. However, he does seem to be passionate about it right now, and when Max is passionate about a game, it's infectious. Who would complain about getting more passionate Xrd players? Not me, that's for sure.

Max only really plays Capcom games, and KI. Anything that's not within that category is played for a bit then dropped, forever. If he does have a secret project, then he should work with GG Bits, only if he intends to get real serious with Xrd and the GG community/scene.

Big lobbies I think are nice for people who have trouble finding solid connections, like me. It also alleviates things like just chllin' in the NY Stream room in P4U because you know that's the only player room you'd surely get solid connections.

Who is the I-no player with 25+ win streak in the latest Acho vid? They were trolling pretty hard it seemed. I can't wait to see high level play in higher qualities.

Me too, overall for people like me that live in countries with no arcades and almost no scene.

I dont have the transportation and I live in the central valley-.- but hey if better netcode im game

I'm kinda glad they got rid of the 8 person lobbies, they were great... AT FIRST

But after awhile, people just started sitting around and started just doing nothing but random chatting... And there's always a few people who think it's funny to wander around the chat's and be a troll. (I had to deal with a pervert one on BB The other day.)

I feel like the lobbies were a good idea in theory, but without any moderation, and given how many casual's tend to flock it, Rooms are usually the better way to go.

But Hey, as long as the netcode is more stable, and rooms can fit more then 2 people. I feel like that's a major step up from +R. Also given how solid the game itself is, this already propel's Guilty Gear XRD into one of the best fighters of today.

Both GGXrd and KOF13 were simplified but they managed to keep their solid core gameplay which definitely makes them the best 2D fighting games in this era IMO.

Arcade lobbies were actually one of the best thing to happen to fighting games online in a while i think. The most important thing is that you can get a real sense of how many people in your region are playing the game. This was part of the reason why Skullgirls and GGXX+R felt so dead. Apart from just having a low playerbase online anyway, because there was only 1v1 rooms, if you sit around for 10-20 minutes and don't get a game you naturally think nobody is on and you play something else, so this stops people coming back. This is why rooms larger than 2 people are important, but even those rooms, once filled, get removed from the lobby list, so there could be a larger amount of people playing than you originally think. Now if you go into the arcade lobby and there are 4 people all in games, you won't be able to get a game, but at least you know there are people playing and that if you wait around a bit, you will definitely find someone to play since you can actually see people there.

I also feel that arcade lobbies allowed me to play a wider breadth of people than i would normally play in rooms. Rooms are also too annoying to play in once they get above 4 people and if you join a room with no restrictions on connection, you then have a lobby with good connections with that one bad connection, ruining the whole room. The main problem with arcade lobbies though is that it lends itself to playing the same person over and over again until someone leaves. This is mostly due to the fact that when you finishing a game, all other people are going to be playing still. I think an actual queuing system built into the game would help with that. You can kind of do it already, but you have to wait until someone finishes and scramble for the empty seat. A queuing system would be more fair and make it feel less like you are stealing that person's fighting partner.

There is a downside to the Lobby Mode in BlazBlue though... "Fixed Rules" (2/3 rounds, people can cut in front of you after a match).

Not to mention that if everyone is busy playing Lobby, then nobody is playing Ranked or the other modes. (That's a downside given to any mode that happens to be popular or common in a game).

I remember the days when you could set a quarter next to somebody and know without a doubt you were gonna be next, but at the same time people respected people more back then...

I like the idea of being able to have some control over the room so you don't have to deal with rude players or just have more options to enjoy the game at your own pace (i.e. Unlims, EX Mode, Gold Mode, 3/5 rounds, classic modes, Type B Rotation, etc).

As for GGXrd, I have no idea what they have in mind for Lobby or Online play, but I hope it's worthwhile... (and at the same time if this game has a Replay mode, I hope it lets you change camera angles for 3D perspective hehehe).

Yea some features should never be thought of when developers are trying to take out things. No reason to not be able to restrict things like round size (except in ranked). I do like the way the lobbies were made, and I love how creative the D-card maker is

I think he might hold it down for quite some time. I've noticed this loosely myself but a lot of Marvel players seem to be quite interested in Xrd, and iirc that was one of Max's favorite games.

I'm one too actually, this will be my first ArcSys game that I'll learn and I'm really excited about it. :)
