AllyOfJustice Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Play a new character if you're frustrated with your main's changes. My main lost sidewinders but I'm not that upset over it. Although those were fun. they're a business and want to be able to release the game 2-4 more times with 3-4 more characters each time to make some money on it. I'm hoping there are more than 4 characters per release. Fuck Arcsystem works if they just release 3. They already jewed out with Chronophantasma, making me pay $20 for Terumi and Kokomoe. The screen freezes on cancels and the cinematic supers do add time, but the game play isn't extremely slowed down. I'd prefer it if there wasn't a screen freeze on cancels, and I'd like it if there was a way to toggle the cinematic effect for the supers, but it's not a deal breaker. The combat itself is slower, I actually don't mind the cancel freezes and cinematics. Chipp Zanuff is noticeably slower, that's not cool mang. I really like most of the soundtrack. May's new theme might not be as good as Blue Water Blue Sky, but it's pretty good. Slayer's theme is awesome. This is my favorite I-No theme. I'm sure there's some music you'll find likeable in there. If you don't, you can always mute it and play the old OST. I'm not saying the new soundtrack is bad, it's just not as good as Accent Core's. What's the problem? Adding a cutscene made them bland somehow? More like they could have made more devastating looking/flashier supers. The graphics are pretty good, but the supers just don't have any impact. Instant Kills aren't as cool as they could be. When I look at something like King of Tager, The Ultimate Bang or Final Apocalypse, THOSE are some real finishers. If it's gonna say "destroyed" at the end, that attack should be epic. Animation is choppy? Yeah. I mean, you're probably not complaining about the lack of new moves, considering Sol got a divekick, Ky got grinders, Millia got Chroming Rose, Zato got that shark super, Venom got QV, May got the beachball, I-No got an air command throw, Axl got a stance and Bentengari is a GOOD DP now, etc. I'm gonna have to look into all this new information. It's really hard to gauge if people are going to like BB more after they've played Xrd for a while. Older fans that don't like it might come back for the next version, or they can keep playing +R for now, and most of us would happily play with them. I like Guilty Gear, but Blazblue is just so much more appealing in every aspect to the general gamer. More likable cast, flashier attacks, more fleshed out story, and a hell of a lot more content on disc. I disagree with both her music sucking, AND her thighs looking delicious. She could use a little more protein. That goofy hat is cute though. I still think her music sucks. Also I wouldn't mind giving her some protein know what I'm saying nii-chan?
Blade Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Seriously people, stop complaining about ___ character/song/stage/gimmick/whatever not being in GGXrd. Just wait and you will be heard. ARCSys isn't the type to forsake people, they just take a long time getting stuff done cuz they're a small company with BIG responsibilities. Also stop complaining about having to use D-pad. Some of us were raised on it.
youcanwonder Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I just want to know if there are auto - corrects. ..As in do an upper one way but comes out the other bc u were crossed up I.e ssfiv or ultra whateverthefuck u Wana call it..just hoping dumbshit like that is not in the game
D.R.F. Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=119961484&postcount=694 markman to the rescue. Xrd @ Evo savedMarkman is the hero we all need

I play the game a lot, but I know for a FACT that those two things alone can turn people away. Also can we please stop talking about the damn soundtrack?
AllyOfJustice Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 ARCSys isn't the type to forsake people, they just take a long time getting stuff done cuz they're a small company with BIG responsibilities. I wish they would put as much effort into Guilty Gear as they do on Blazblue and P4A. How come those games get a lot more characters and content per release? Guilty Gear is the oldest series out of the 3 and now that it's making a comeback it deserves to have the biggest cast and best gameplay. Blazblue has 26 characters with big command lists and fleshed out storylines. Like P4A the characters are fully voiced in English and you can switch between languages. There's no fucking excuse. Persona Ultimax has 20 characters and it's only the 2nd game in its series. Like it or not, having more characters, having characters dubbed, having a VN-style fleshed out story mode make the games more likable. Just being able to understand what the characters are saying makes a bigger difference than you think. GG has always been the least "familiar" because no one knows a thing about the story and what the hell the characters are saying. If they really did want to appeal to the mainstream crowd, then how about putting the same amount of effort and content into Xrd? What do you mean their "team is too small"? If they can make Chronophantasma and Ultimax, why can't they make Xrd on the same scale, with just as much content and characters? (I even heard the 3D models don't take as much work as the hand-drawn sprites) Ishiwatari deciding to dumb down the gameplay for more money is fine, at least let the fans have everything else they want. I apologize for bitching so much, I just want the game to be perfect and it's not meeting expectations. Xrd is supposed to be a big deal, it's a new Guilty Gear and they don't give a shit. Slower gameplay, 15 characters and they want me to wait a really long time until the next version comes out? FUUUUUUCK YOU I'm done complaining now for forever, I promise.
greatfernman Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 A smaller character pool has the plus point of being easier to pick up, as you have to learn fewer matchups. More characters and large command lists do not equate to higher game quality. Also bb and p4 are team blue, gg is team red.
D.R.F. Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Remember man what you call a great story in bb isn't all that great lol. Shit is filled with tropes I like the story, but damn is that shit ridiculous lol And they had three people designing the models cmon man shit.
Stellarcircle5 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 @Allyofjustice Expecting Xrd to be perfect is unreasonable. And for god sakes, are the droves of people (including Guilty Gear OGs) who have played the game itself and said it's great not enough? This has just become irrational cynicism at this point. If you don't want to play the game, all the power to you, but you're going to miss out on many great things in the future just because they don't adhere to your every little desire. Maybe the words will carry more weight when you, yknow, actually play the damn game for yourself. I apologise for stoking the fires, but I had to say something before I went insane. I just couldn't deal.
AllyOfJustice Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Also bb and p4 are team blue, gg is team red. And they had three people designing the models cmon man shit. The fighting game series that made Arc System Works popular and they couldn't dedicate more people to it? I promised I wouldn't complain anymore so whatever. I'll just convince myself somehow that Xrd is an amazing game like everyone here says it is. @Allyofjustice Expecting Xrd to be perfect is unreasonable. And for god sakes, are the droves of people (including Guilty Gear OGs) who have played the game itself and said it's great not enough? This has just become irrational cynicism at this point. Doesn't Mike Z hate Xrd?
Stellarcircle5 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 You and Mike Z are the only people I've seen condemn this game, the kicker is that Mike Z makes games for a living, and damn good ones at that. It is to be expected that his vision of an ideal fighting game would be different from the standard player. I talked to him at UFGT about Xrd and he made some very valid points from a design perspective about where he feels the game could have been better. The thing is that for people who aren't overtly cynical, the fact that its a new Guilty Gear will be enough to sell it. I know that's how it is for me and many others. I'm done here, I already feel bad for getting involved.
Pichy Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I wish they would put as much effort into Guilty Gear as they do on Blazblue and P4A. How come those games get a lot more characters and content per release? BBCT Arcade launched with ten characters. By console it had twelve. BBCS Arcade added two characters. A third was added to the console launch. BBCS Console then had three characters added as DLC, the third coinciding with the CS2 patch. Extend added a single character. BBCP added four more characters. Two existing characters and one of the new ones were time release. BBCP Console added three more characters, of which one was an unlock, another a preorder bonus and the third just regular paid DLC. Persona 4 Arena launched with 11 characters. It then time released two more, and added none in the console port. The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold added 3 new characters and time released a fourth. Console Ultimax is adding Three more, making this release comparable to Console CS2. Guilty Gear X launched with 15 characters. Console X put in Kliff and Justice as jokes with incredibly lazy animations. XX added 4 characters. #Reload added one new character. Slash added two new characters, of which one was from Isuka. Accent Core added no new characters. Accent Core +R tweaked two characters to make them exist for once. Their animations have barely been tweaked past #R. Guilty Gear Xrd launched with 13 characters and time released a fourth. Its console release is launching with 15, making this the same size that X started with at console release. You need to compare the release to X because constructing art assets is 1) Expensive 2) Time consuming 3) Expensive and time consuming. You are a moron and really, really need to stop speaking. If you're determined to panic over Xrd, there's no reason to stop playing AC+R.
AllyOfJustice Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I think everyone should be able to have an opinion about this even if they're not developers. You don't need to be a director/designer to know that deeper gameplay and more characters = good. Not being cynical just for the sake of being cynical. I am (or try to be) excited about some things in Xrd. It's just that the bad outweigh the good. I don't agree with "just because it's a new Guilty Gear everyone should like it". I think people should stay objective and acknowledge its flaws. Maybe Arcsystemworks isn't the most amazing, most perfect company that could do no wrong and they were actually lazy with this release? Maybe people shouldn't just blindly worship something just because of what's in the title. The fact that they're probably intentionally not putting characters just so they can shit out more versions year after year, yeah I'm cool with that. The fact that other games in the company don't dumb down the gameplay and get 6-7 characters per release and Guilty Gear's roster gets subtracted by 10, yeah I'm cool with that. I'm not going to whine anymore. It's all good.
greatfernman Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Not liking the game and certain factors is fine. It's just that your reasons are mostly stupid. And its your opinion, which is totally fine, but people can have opinions about your opinion. And I think it's pretty much agreed that you're finding flaws where there is none.
shinr Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Why Xrd doesn't have more people working on it? Like it or not, GG had taken hits to its reputation, and thus its perceived ability of sell, due to the de facto failure of Overture, the rights problems with SEGA and the series being in the Capcom Sequel Stagnation phase. If Arc was to put all their eggs into one basket and it didn't pay off, not even BB profits would pull them out of this mess. And Xrd's development has taken a few years already, and with the current gamedev costs only the most successful of AAA franchises like GTA can afford to take years of development. So I think that we are lucky that there is a new GG in the first place, reduced roster or no.
ElvenShadow Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yea.... so.... Speaking of the soundtrack (lol only comment I'll make on it) I think it has a mixed bag of some really good songs and some so-so songs, but the same can be said about X/XX soundtracks. Overall I like it. I just bought a ticket to the Guilty Gear X BlazBlue live music concert happening this Saturday! I was originally not gonna go because of Revo Cup Quals but since I won the preliminary on Sunday, I already have a silver ticket and can't enter any others until the area final on 7/26, so I might as well listen to live video game metal and get drunk! Regarding throws, some characters can still combo off throws meterless. People already mentioned Bedman and Millia still can as well. Man, playing Xrd is just so much fun. So much more fun than BlazBlue Good thing there's no rolling! Oh yea, and I am really glad to hear that Markman is hooking you guys up with some sticks at Evo. I hope you all enjoy playing the game for your first time.
Kaizen Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I just bought a ticket to the Guilty Gear X BlazBlue live music concert happening this Saturday! Oh shit, this is happening again? Sweet.
AllyOfJustice Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Having less wakeup options is the best. Also, having less supers, less characters and dumbed down gameplay must be the best. It sucks to play Chronophantasma, a game that has a lot of characters, I wish it only had 15 like Xrd Anyway, I just listened to the Chipp and Sol's Xrd music. These sure are...good. Yeah, these sure are better than their old themes. Keep Yourself Alive and Suck A Sage are inferior, for sure. I'm positive.
Gear May Cry Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Any chance we get a playable Raven in the future?
Calamitus Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I think everyone should be able to have an opinion about this even if they're not developers. You don't need to be a director/designer to know that deeper gameplay and more characters = good. We already know your "opinion", no need to repeat it thousand times.
White Man Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I think everyone should be able to have an opinion about this even if they're not developers. Valid point. The opinion of someone like Mike Z might carry a bit more weight due to his background, but ultimately things like the feel of the gameplay being right or wrong and whether or not a title is "fun" are subjective statements that speak to an individual's tastes. Regardless, these are topics nobody should be commenting on either way unless they've actually played the game. You don't need to be a director/designer to know that deeper gameplay and more characters = good. That's debatable. Deeper gameplay is generally considered a positive in this genre, yes, but a greater number of systems don't automatically make a game deeper. As far as fighters go, Street Fighter II is probably the best example of depth in simplicity. Would SF2 be a deeper game if they added EX attacks and parries and cancels that consumed varying amounts of meter? Would AC+R have been a deeper game if they'd added dodge rolls and tag mechanics and multiple planes ala Isuka? As for more characters equaling a better game, Ultimate MVC3, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and some of the later DBZ Tenkaichi games all offer evidence to the contrary.
king of heart Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Can you link moves from throws anymore? Nobody does throw-> 5k with sol anymore I am really pissed off that it doesn't work in the final build. It worked in the location tests.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Do we have to feed the troll every time? He makes the same post once every few weeks, and we caught on the bait every time. Just ignore him Also, good news about the stick! Since tehy mentioned ps3/ps4, that means ps3 sticks are compatible with the game?
TeeJay Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Do we have to feed the troll every time? He makes the same post once every few weeks, and we caught on the bait every time. Just ignore him Also, good news about the stick! Since tehy mentioned ps3/ps4, that means ps3 sticks are compatible with the game? I assumed they meant ps4 sticks (which are compatible with ps3). I've heard Dual Shock 4s completely work with ps3 now so assumed the same with sticks.
king of heart Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I just bought a ticket to the Guilty Gear X BlazBlue live music concert happening this Saturday! Man, playing Xrd is just so much fun. So much more fun than BlazBlue Good thing there's no rolling! My ticket is for 5pm. What about you? Also yeah. Xrd is as good as any other Guilty Gear games. Personally i always thought that FB made the game easier even compared to replacing FRCs with YRCs.
