Neithan Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Good post Uncivilized Elk. If I can be even more extremist, I'll add I don't like Millia new design. It's not the hat that bothers me, but the arms. On her past stance Millia's arms where clothed in black and near her body so we would not see them well, with one arm falling/moving like it was dislocated. It was for a simple reason: to give the feeling that Millia had no arms or that her arms where not efficient or an important part of her body. The naked legs + the hair moving freely were her body parts instead of the classic legs + arms and the white cloth with just a line on it made a link between the hips/legs and the head/hair. Now Millia has "normal" arms on her stance and ironically, her arms now feels normals but her hair strand is rigid, like a blade. It changes the character, has if she passed from someone that endorsed a new body type and may use it as a weapon to someone who use exclusively this part of her body has a weapon. The black leggins also reduces the importance of her legs while the orange tries to give a flashy tone on a character that was very reserved. It may be a story thing, as if millia finally changed from her past self. But from a design point of view, even if it doesn't matter in the enjoyment we'll get from the game, it's a step backward in intelligent design.
SoWL Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 One thing for sure: I'm looking forward to Ishiwatari's comments on designing all the new chars. That person just doesn't do anything without a good cause, so calling El and Ram "Nothing but fanservice" is a bit hasty.
greatfernman Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The Gamer article specifies how the stances change to indicate the shot is getting more powerful. Rifle stance gets a red reticule, and she glows red in shotgun stance (http://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/201409110048/image/13/) The caption translates directly as "when the sight becomes red, the power is rising" and "when Elphelt becomes red, the power is rising." so I guess that effect doesn't indicate max power, just that the power has started increasing
Neithan Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 One thing for sure: I'm looking forward to Ishiwatari's comments on designing all the new chars. That person just doesn't do anything without a good cause, so calling El and Ram "Nothing but fanservice" is a bit hasty. Well he didn't thought a lot about it if we believe this article:http://www.siliconera.com/2014/08/22/creating-guilty-gear-xrd-signs-characters/ On Bedman: "I just came up with him," Guilty Gear creator Daisuke Ishiwatari laughed when Siliconera asked about designing Bedman. "I wasn’t lying in a bed when I came up with him. I was thinking of different ideas of a character who would be iconic and would stand out. One of them happened to be in a bed and I thought that was cool. Sometimes lightning strikes and I just get an idea. Otherwise, I think, think, and think to come up with an idea that’s different from other characters," Ishiwatari replied. On ramlethal: How did he come with Ramletherl Valentine, a boss character in Guilty Gear Xrd SIGN? "She sort of resembles the character from Guilty Gear II with different kinds of hats. I wanted to create a new type of female character that wasn’t in the previous games," Ishiwatari explained. "That was the source of inspiration for Valentine."
TeeJay Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 The Gamer article specifies how the stances change to indicate the shot is getting more powerful. Rifle stance gets a red reticule, and she glows red in shotgun stance (http://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/201409110048/image/13/) The caption translates directly as "when the sight becomes red, the power is rising" and "when Elphelt becomes red, the power is rising." so I guess that effect doesn't indicate max power, just that the power has started increasing I'm curious how this will affect the flow when using her stationary rifle and if that'll force people to initially rush her down. I can see the power increasing being useful against more patient opponents. Perhaps for someone like Potemkin who can slide head or w/e. she may not be too bad for him. On the other hand, if her shotgun is good enough, that forces people to make a choice.
DeathArcana Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Fighting games shouldnt have female characters. They are weaker genre If HnK 2 ever gets released, i hope mamiya is removed and its full male roster like it should be. are you serious? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 so calling El and Ram "Nothing but fanservice" is a bit hasty. So.... I can't speak for others over the past dozen pages, but if this is in regards to me... I'm fairly confident you're building a big 'ol strawman and I don't appreciate it. Please cite where I (or somebody) said the character is "nothing but fanservice". I have said that there is no point to the boob window except fanservice. Last I checked El was a human and not a pair of tits that can fight. "soured by fanservice elements" does NOT equate to "there nothing to the character's design but fanservice" I'm not even sure if it's possible to create a design that is literally nothing but fanservice. But I'm not taking your statement literally. I am taking it as a strawman though. I've actually written twice already on the topic of El that for the most part I like her design apart from the boob window. I've acknowledged the rest of the design elements and given them praise (I'm not crazy over it, but hey, it reminds me a little bit of an Annie Oakley/Wild Guns vibe, and I can dig that). I am so lost as to where you're pulling this "nothing but fanservice" card from. This isn't an "all or nothing" case. Though if you cite an example I'll eat my words and apologize. And even if Ishiwatari specifically comes out and makes an essay-long explanation as to why he cut a hole into El's dress around her breasts, that will change absolutely nothing. Hell, if El is written to have a line where she says something like "This dress exposes my breasts because it makes me look more feminine and makes love easier to find" I'm going to be facepalming EXTRA hard. Because at that point you're not just compromising the integrity of the design, you're compromising the integrity of the entire character. (But seeing as how ABA's story is pretty much "I wanna marry this man, rargh you can't have my man!" and S-ko does more or less the same thing, such stupidity on the part of the writing/creation staff wouldn't surprise me. [i don't think I'll ever stop being butthurt over ABA because I like her design and love her playstyle so much that when I finally decided, what the hell, and played her story mode it fucking destroyed me.])
Blade Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Ignoring Jakestation's sexist comment, I believe Sin in GG2 Overture had an omni-directional Ride the Lightning. 3 rushes, any direction. Guys, character design isn't your department, and you aren't working on this game, Team Red is. Just appreciate what you get (i.e. focus on the characters you DO like, not the ones you don't). And seriously, Elk, if you hate GG's story and characters that much, go post about it somewhere else, this isn't the thread for it. Rifle stances (for Elphelt) seem to be based on how long you're in the stance. It's weaker if you do it right away, but stronger if you time it, so it's kinda like Hazama's one Serpent's Benediction stance.
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Guys, character design isn't your department, and you aren't working on this game, Team Red is. Just appreciate what you get (i.e. focus on the characters you DO like, not the ones you don't). Oh, just fuck right off with that patronizing shit. And seriously, Elk, if you hate GG's story and characters that much, go post about it somewhere else, this isn't the thread for it. This is a thread about news. El's detailed design is still very much news and is still very much sinking in, and as such is very open to discussion. Since we just got some more info on her attack designs and personality traits (and some people saw her for the first time quite recently), there is no reason discussing her should be barred. If you don't like it you should be the one leaving. But hey, go ahead and focus on those few select sentences in my posts that mention past characters, despite it being in direct relation to discussion on El. Policing people for negative reactions isn't your department, and you aren't the only member on this board. Just appreciate what you get (i.e. focus on the posts you DO like, not the ones you don't). (^Man, does that come off as condescending even when I don't actually mean it.)
Jakestation Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 are you serious? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Yes, i would never play as a female character unless you dont have any other option.
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 So how 'bout that block button, eh?
Aze Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 So how 'bout that block button, eh? overrated
SoWL Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Elk, I don't really want to argue with you (mostly because I don't think this topic is worth arguing about), but I can at least apologize if I misunderstood your post. My line was mostly in response to this one: I'm just hoping they can be lumped with Dizzy as those several designs that got soured by fanservice elements rather than a new trend of every female being some otaku's idol-thing. Now, since this thread moves relatively fast, I can't remember what every single participant of the discussion has ever said. Which is why I didn't know whether your boob window problem is the only point you don't like about an otherwise fine design, or it's just one of the many gripes (as that post didn't really have other comments about her design, just gameplay). Most people usually hate character designs in their entirety, so I paid more attention to the "new trend" part of the phrase than to the "soured by fanservice elements" one. And for that, I apologize. In any case, I understand your stance well now, and since it doesn't seem like you're going to change it even if we do get some justification for certain elements of El's design, I see no point in arguing about it any longer. Good day.
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 overrated SoWL, nah it's quite literally just the boob window on El that irks me. As long as I can color swap her to green (I guess blue would suffice but there better be green) I'm mostly good. And I can't really think of a character in GG where I dislike every single part of the design. There's some that as a whole I'm neutral too but don't actively dislike. Anyway I just really wanted to clarify I'm not dismissing the entire design. And I also do like Ram, though her coat and swords carry the vast majority of that like. As for my question about those tourney vids... seems like they aren't up anywhere like YT yet?
DeathArcana Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Yes, i would never play as a female character unless you dont have any other option. Ok just wanted to make sure that you were an idiot, because Women can never fight ever right? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
BladeOfJustice7 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 And I can't really think of a character in GG where I dislike every single part of the design. Bridget and May. I can't stand them at all, especially when May is jumping over my head, with her fat ass aerial normals and dolphins. There, now let the controversy begin.
DeathArcana Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 i mean your gripe seems to be about gameplay not about over all design Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Bridget and May. I can't stand them at all, especially when May is jumping over my head, with her fat ass aerial normals and dolphins. There, now let the controversy begin. I like them both but can't force myself to like playing them no matter how hard I tried. Will try again with May once Xrd is out. Hoping that otter beach ball saves the day somehow via animal magic. Pleeeeeeaaaaase don't bother with that douchenozzle.
D.R.F. Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I love may. And bridgets really cool (first trap I actually liked). Apart from that to each their own, and we dont need to be at each others throats because of a character-.-
BladeOfJustice7 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 i mean your gripe seems to be about gameplay not about over all design Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Nope, I hate their kawaii-ness AND their gameplay. Even their themes, everything abut these characters, I hate. If I could remove them from the game, would without a doubt.
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 and we dont need to be at each others throats because of a character-.- But isn't it more fun and kinky that way?
Blade Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 lol, fat hitboxes have nothing to do with character's visual appearance or gender. Elk, I'm not policing, you just complain. A lot. And not just this thread either. And if you're not being serious then you're just flame bait. Talking about news in terms of what's good and what you expect is fine, but talking about it in terms of what you hate all the time is bad press, man. That makes people get the wrong impression about the game, or at least that's what I think.
Tenj|n Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 http://ebten.jp/p/7015014091001/ The Xrd stick is out yo. Good news, it's PS3 and 4 compatible.
Uncivilized Elk Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Elk, I'm not policing, you just complain. A lot. And not just this thread either. And if you're not being serious then you're just flame bait. I would compile all my posts from this forum and group them into easily crunchable data for you on what was a complaint and what wasn't... but you're really not worth the trouble, and you'd find any excuse to disagree with any reality that pertains to me anyway. The non-serious part was clearly just the part where I copied your asinine "Guys stop talking about the stuff I don't want to read about! Just talk about the good stuff!" Bad press? Right. Like some idiot is going to form his entire basis on whether the game is good or bad and whether it deserves a purchase based on a random person's post on a dedicated FG forum. Pfffft. By the way, here's another complaint for ya! Fuck this company's "this character who is finished will come as a pre-order/first order bonus, but if you didn't get in on that buy it for 800 yen". FUCK THAT SHIT.
