Airk Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 As far as the translating goes, it's because of Arcsys. A company called Aksys localized the first two games. Arcsys handled Extend and Chronophantasm. As far as I know, Arcsys has never been good at translating. For instance, Accent Core +. Until the +R patch, the special move names were in Japanese Characters. Basically, they are bad at localizing at least in part because they only started doing it recently. Most of the errors in CP are what I'd consider "newbie mistakes" - the kind that come from just not having a lot of experience doing this, or from rushing/not checking your work thoroughly (though the title menu issue is pretty egregious.). We can hope they'll improve over time. On the other hand, Aksys is a company for whom localization is pretty much their ONLY business. It's what they do. They've been doing it for a long time and they're good at it.

We can hope they'll improve over time. I am thinking that someone ought to compile a list of these errors and make ASW aware of them. Looking at most of these amateur mistakes (typos, audio spikes and skips, etc.) it seems that, while it isn't as bad as Extend, it is still sloppy. I realize that I must sound like an insufferable jackass over this, but it is only because I think the game is otherwise great. The voice cast is stellar on both sides of the spectrum (barring a certain exception), the gameplay is phenomenal and the story is otherwise better than before. If they cannot seem to eliminate or notice these errors on their own, then I figure someone pointing them out might make them more thorough next time. Because honestly, you can simply look at the English version of that one animated scene and think "Yup. Perfect". On the other hand, Aksys is a company for whom localization is pretty much their ONLY business. It's what they do. They've been doing it for a long time and they're good at it. I'm gonna chalk it up to ASW wanting to save money by not hiring Aksys and localizing it themselves. Unfortunately, they're definitely not as skilled at it as Aksys is and it shows. Extend was the rock bottom of that and while CP is better, it is still a far cry from what I'd consider acceptable.

I think I mentioned to their facebook or twitter once and I got a rather snarky response to the effect of "We're sorry that you feel that way." They know, at least ArcSys USA knows, that it's bad. There's really no excuse; I understand that they want to try to translate it themselves, but there's a certain point where if you can't do it properly, you just hire someone else, like Aksys, to do it. Oh, and according to the Tutorials, Amane's drive gives him life drain. The chip damage he does is apparently added to his Hp. They screwed up.

I can tolerate mistakes...up to a point. However what I personally cannot tolerate is someone knowing the product is bad, or at least not as good as it could be, but deciding that they don't give enough of a shit to care. ASW, that's not how you retain your fans nor is it how you attract new ones. Speaking of which... Oh, and according to the Tutorials, Amane's drive gives him life drain. The chip damage he does is apparently added to his Hp. They screwed up. Oh FFS, how do you screw up a damn character tutorial? Not only is this an outright lie but imagine what happens if a new player, for whom these tutorials were made for to begin with, reads it what do you think his/her reaction will be when they test it out themselves moments later?
White Man Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Sadly, most companies just don't care about that kind of thing. I know a few people who studied to become technical writers, and they absolutely cannot find any work in that field. One of them even bought a product catalogue for a company that manufactures farm equipment and compiled a list of all these formatting and syntax errors he found to send in with an application (sort of a "this wouldn't have happened if I worked there" kind of thing). Their response was basically "Thanks, but we don't really pay attention to that stuff." I'm sure ASW does put effort into minimizing text errors, but ultimately, typos and mistranslations aren't a big enough deal that they're going to cost the company any sales. Thus they take the same stance that most companies have today: If it doesn't directly hurt the bottom line, it doesn't matter.
mAc Chaos Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 So is 1.1 considered a full fledged sequel like CS2? It seems kind of in between.
Airk Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 So is 1.1 considered a full fledged sequel like CS2? It seems kind of in between. I don't think so; If you'll remember, they did a couple of 'version' patches to P4A, and they sure didn't count as real sequels. BBCP:Double Bonus Timesuck Edition is still on the horizon. :P
Tokkan Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 So is 1.1 considered a full fledged sequel like CS2? It seems kind of in between. Remember that in arcades, Extend was called "Continuum Shift II 1.10" (CSII1.1). Extend was just the name for the home console version.
Skye Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Also with CSII and CSE, new characters were announced for each version, CPII-er... 1.1 doesn't have that perk. In that respect, this is the first real rebalance we ever got.
BlackYakuzu94 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 yea, CP1.1 is more or less the CSII equivalent. its even got a Vita release like CSII did with the PSP. I doubt we'll be getting another re-balance though, Extend was just the odd man out and they needed to add Relius to the roster.

In that interview Mori gave at SoCal Regionals 2014 he said they have plans to port Chronophantasma to the Playstation 4 but it would be boring if it was just a straight port so it would be a new update with a completely new mode.

Didn't he say that it was just blazblue in general, and not a port?
TagerTime Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Didn't he say that it was just blazblue in general, and not a port? No in the interview he was specifically talking about a port of Chronophantasma. Later he says when they are finished with all their work on Chronophantasma he would like the next brand new installment of BlazBlue, game #4, to use GGXrd graphics engine instead of 2d sprites. Here is the part of the interview where he starts to talk about it http://www.twitch.tv/jyosua/b/507462026?t=12m53s
mAc Chaos Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Wow, and here I was telling my friend to get CP when he was scoffing and saying they'd just release another version of it for PS4 if he just waited.
Justice7541 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I like the "I'll just wait for the inevitable balance patch" types. You'd pretty much never be able to buy a fighting game ever.

Sourenga Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 http://blazblue.jp/topics.html#topics635 Ishana will be appearing again from April 10th to 21st. Lobby accessories related to "Entrance ceremony" will be available for the characters.
mAc Chaos Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Ishana? You mean a new level? Also where do you set things like your icon for netplay. I've had Ragna for months now.
Luminos564 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Ishana? You mean a new level? Also where do you set things like your icon for netplay. I've had Ragna for months now. I think you buy them as DLC man. I know Terumi and Kokonoe icons come with their DLC at least.

Ishana is the 0th Online Lobby that appears now and then (At least in the Japanese version...) You can use in-game money to buy lobby avatar and other things under the "Edit D-Code" option in Online Menu of the game... I should've mentioned this... but this will probably be JAP version only event, even though the US version is out. At least, Aksys or ArcSys USA have yet to mention anything...

But isn't the Online Lobby the same unified network anyways, even for JP/US releases? Cause not only that, even the D-code also has stuff that hasn't even been localized/translated, or otherwise. (Like Magical Beat/Blue Radio/Novel Icons and some other stuff in the US release.), but that might be a different thing, I guess.
bobb Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 the event is for all regions http://blazblueuniverse.com/get-ready-to-accessorize-your-blazblue-avatar
NeoStrayCat Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Cool, its worldwide after all, yay, and its free too! :3 Update: The 0th Lobby is up, and the items you get are a child's school hat, 2 different colored backpacks, and a cherry blossom on the head. --- Update #2: BB:CP Vita port (English) announced release of 6/24/14. http://blazblueuniverse.com/blazblue-chrono-phantasma-for-playstation-vita-coming-june-24
