superclack Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I'm having a little trouble gauging some gatlings/special cancels for combo purposes, and I'm thinking maybe some frame data would help me gauge it a bit better. Things cancel on the first frame of recovery, or is it different for each move? I have trouble with things that need to be input late.

I think unless stated otherwise, the frame window for all cancels/gatlings starts the frame after it connects, even if it's still technically in the "active frame" portion of the attack.
Huopatossu Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I'm pretty sure you must input the last button press of a special move during the "slowdown" from a normal attack. A little after it works too.
Hellmonkey Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 The "slowdown" is called hit stop. When you hit with a move there is hit stop that freezes both the attacker and whatever is getting hit/blocking for 11-15 frames for moves level 1-5 (unless otherwise stated). You can buffer during hit stop. (baiken alpha counters are very good because she can start them during hit stop, making 10+ frame counters extremely fast when taking hit stop into consideration, also projectiles/etc that take hits are good because hit stop only affects whatever is attacking/getting attacked, so for instance when someone hits little eddie it freezes them and little eddie but not eddie himself.
EclipsingBinary Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I believe you can only cancel normals (unless there's a special exception listed) during hitstop or the remainder of your active frames. Once you reach the recovery phase of your normal, you can't cancel it anymore.
Blade Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 What do you call it when a special move "cancels" into another special move then? Here's a few examples: Volcanic Viper>Knockdown, Lust Shaker>Iron Savior, Vapor Thrust>Javelin etc etc...natural cancels.
rtl42 Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 i think it's just considered to be another special cancel.
taraction Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 i would consider them to be follow-ups, since you can only "cancel" those moves into another designated move.
Chomite Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 How about some moves that comes out faster than it should when you button mash? Like, Anji's 6K - 5K or I-No's 6HS - 5K?
Digital Watches Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Those just seem weird because they're gatlings from slow moves into fast moves. They're no different from normal as far as I know.
YanisDLooper Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 If you attack with a normal, can you input directional input (for a special cancel) before you are in hit stop from the normal you connect with? Or, Can you only input for a special cancel during hit stop?
4r5 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 If you attack with a normal, can you input directional input (for a special cancel) before you are in hit stop from the normal you connect with? yes
