Luminos564 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 "in comparison to todays's [...]" Yes, yes... tell me more. Well perhaps "standard" wasn't a good word for me to use here but lets use some examples: -Sound and Voice Acting, especially the latter got really good in recent years. They've gotten to the point where I actually prefer hearing characters in English over their original Japanese voice. Of course, it isn't like hearing Danzaiver shout his lines whenever I feel nostalgic won't move me to tears. -Graphics. I'm a bit of a graphics whore and once I get used to a game looking a certain way, I tend to not be able to look past the older times when games were in blocky 3D and the like. Graphically Evil Zone wasn't all that impressive compared to things like Tekken 3 and Bloody Roar 1, 2 which I played right after. Incidentally those 3 were the last 3D fighters I ever played and I've since remained purely on the 2D plane. Of course, like anyone else, I fully understand that graphics =/= better necessarily, but the presentation is certainly a plus. Now if you'll excuse me, I am off to go wishing for long range grabs like Evil Zone had. Those were always so entertaining. Ihadurca's wand-coaster throw was the shit XD.
Kyosuke Kagami Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 "really good [...]" Oh, yes, keep on... The Inu Yasha fighters were fart inducing. Tried PS1 game once and it was... erh... it made Tatsunoko Fight seem playable (and TF was shit).
TekkamanArk Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Fuck you too, buddy. Kindly GTFO if you're going to clutter the thread with huge image macros and not actually try to defend your liking Toshinden. I guess humor doesn't work. Well, whatever. And i'm not the only one that used an image in this thread btw, so if you're going to complain about images, at least be equal-opportunity. As for defending my liking Toshinden, why do I need to defend that? Anyone's just as free to like or dislike what they want. You dislike Toshinden, and I disliked your opinion, but I didn't try to say you couldn't have your opinion either. I like Toshinden, admittedly, because of nostalgia for a large part of it. It's not an amazing fighter or anything, it's just fun. EDIT: Also, I think it demonstrated the best way to work guns into a fighter in all honesty.
HoudiniJr100 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 The Inu Yasha fighters were fart inducing. okay I find that hilarious XD because it reminds me of a thing my friend said about watching me play it making him want to puke rainbows :P
Luminos564 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Oh, yes, keep on... What, you need examples of decent voice acting in fighters? Well, BB and P4A both have it. I haven't played the game myself but SFxT has some rather good English cast (when they actually bother to use it). Say also what you will about MvC3 as a game, but the voices were for the most part excellent. Soul Calibur is also stellar in this regard. The Inu Yasha fighters were fart inducing. Tried PS1 game once and it was... erh... it made Tatsunoko Fight seem playable (and TF was shit). There were Inuyasha fighters? Really?

Delrian Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I can't remember the name of the game but it was some freeware PC fighting game. So bad I can't even remember the name.
HoudiniJr100 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I can't remember the name of the game but it was some freeware PC fighting game. So bad I can't even remember the name. what was it like?
Delrian Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 It was just really mediocre between the character design and movesets, with really awful animations. Unfortunately that description describes a LOT of freeware fighting games.
Starlight777 Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 EDIT: Also, I think it demonstrated the best way to work guns into a fighter in all honesty. Hilariously enough that's the from the only character I like in the Toshinden series.
Circuitous Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 But Megaman Soccer had certain degree of fun. My intent was to highlight how truly awful of a decision it was.
Xtra_Zero Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Sonic the Fighters. Great music, cool graphics, awful gameplay. Also the GameCube Bleach fighter. ... and even though I enjoyed it, the original Battle Arena Toshinden. It had tons of style even by today's standards and great music, but the gameplay just didn't hold up at a competitive level.
Star-Demon Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I was about to post when I saw the OP. Thread over in one post.
Rhannmah Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 how did this thread get 4 pages long without a single mention of MUGEN?
HoudiniJr100 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 how did this thread get 4 pages long without a single mention of MUGEN? MUGEN is an unofficial game.
Agni Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 how did this thread get 4 pages long without a single mention of MUGEN? Because: 1: MUGEN isn't really a game more than it is an engine 2: The quality of MUGEN depends completely on the mods you use, it can be nearly as good as a "real" fighting game or a buggy broken piece of shit depending on what mods you use
HoudiniJr100 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Because: 1: MUGEN isn't really a game more than it is an engine 2: The quality of MUGEN depends completely on the mods you use, it can be nearly as good as a "real" fighting game or a buggy broken piece of shit depending on what mods you use bolded reason fits my point as well. but yes, you can make Mugen be like a well done crossover fighter, or the most unplayable piece of junk you ever seen. just depends on your rosters.
InWithTheAshes Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 how did this thread get 4 pages long without a single mention of MUGEN? What are you saying Mugen is amazing. Michael Jackson (Man In The) mirrors all day.
Vulcan422 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 how did this thread get 4 pages long without a single mention of MUGEN? 1. MUGEN isn't a game. It's an engine. 2. Said engine isn't bad. Depending on the characters you get it can be whatever you want it to be. 3. Check out Salty Bets for an example of how fun it can be.
OutlawVinegar Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) 3. Check out Salty Bets for an example of how fun it can be. THANK YOU. I expected either myself or Skye were going to post something like this, but you got there first. Never bet DBZ Edit: Putting this here because it feels relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwNyVulUI6c Edited November 30, 2013 by OutlawVinegar
proxy psi Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 M.U.G.E.N. is the absolute BOMB child.. dunno about you.. but my mugen is LEGIT and BALANCED (except for god characters, which don't appear in arcade mode via easy assignment of a 0-7 interval) Still waiting on an official licensed collaboration "M.U.G.E.N. : Make your own fighter. " think of how legit it would be... snk vs capcom vs marvel vs arc vs neogeo vs whatever the hell i'm forgetting that sells out a lot, nintendo i guess... leave room on the disc for 200 custom slots, and a user friendly assign hit-boxes to images workshop maybe just a dream. Someone who says MUGEN is a bad game needs slapped.
Agni Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 3. Check out Salty Bets for an example of how fun it can be. god dammit Vulcan I've been at this thing for FOUR DAMN HOURS and it's so addicting. Thanks for leading me to my new addiction
