I think that while concerns of some VNs being released here are based in good reasoning, we need to remember that Saya no Uta especially is highly regarded as a VN and has a big fanbase so it can actually help the game more than hurt it. The people who will complain have no power to change anything (nor will it adversely affect Xseed as it localizes Senran Kagura where you get to grope girls on your vita and stuff, they're no strangers to criticism) but at the same time the games being out means a lot more people will know of these characters and get the game thanks to that.

Aquapazza is different since westerners know of their series more through their (t rated) anime adaptations rather than their original VNs or ps2 games.

edit:

On an unrelated note, I haven't followed anything with Sonico in it and from the few things I have seen just being online and reading anime stuff I was not a fan of her design at all but I actually REALLY like her sprite's look in this game. I don't know what they did but they made her look really nice. Cats are always a plus too.

Expecting someone from KanColle next. Or Aldnoah Zero, since at least Urobuchi worked on that.

DMM is pretty much the most sue-happy money-grubbing company in all of Japan, so since they own Kankolle rights if this were to ever happen it would involve tremendous amounts of money and royalty payments, which means, it probably won't happen.  You're much more likely to get a kankolle fighting game all on its own.

Groan, I wish they'd just announce the damn game instead of making these "cute" rebus riddles for toddlers in MS Paint. I bet Wyrdwad thought this up all by hisself.

Any localizer who picks this up is taking a big PR risk, since unlike with Aquapazza, the connection to adult games is inescapable: the Saya and Hanachirasu VNs have actually been released in the US, sans any censorship. Woe be unto any small company who invites the ire of the SJW hivemind.

Predicting lots of exasperated hand-wringing and needlessly overwrought apologetics from Wyrdwad in various forum and comment threads, just like every time XSeed releases a game with boobs or blood. And even more when he has to break the news that it's digital-only.

In terms of censorship, it has a lot more to do with Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) than it does with the games, the cultural expectations, the localization companies, or American law.  Even though games like Saya no Uta were released in the United States, they were released on PC, meaning they didn't need to comply in any significant way with rules or regulations or the now-much-stronger ESRB in the way a console version are now required to do.

It is actually very possible to escape the adult connections of the game's source material.  The worst the publishers may do is change sprites with skirts blowing in the wind showing panties, to sprites with blowing skirts in the wind.  Pretty much every character in the game is arguably 18+ fictionally speaking, especially when you consider to other ps2/ps3 releases.  As a publisher or localizer, Xseed or any other company that publishes their game on Sony, it is by definition not an 18+ nor an adult game, so even if there is some mild "PR risk", their stockholders/payment processors/bank rates won't see any negative consequences.

Having played Nitroplus Blasters, I see it will have close to no issues with publishing, as Sony will probably accept it with an ESRB rating of Teen with Animated Blood, Fantasy Violence, Sexual Content, and Suggestive Themes.  If it would receive a Mature rating or stronger versions of these limitations, the publisher will likely ask the original developer to change it as mentioned above so it will receive a Teen rating so it can sell better.

I haven't really followed the game much gameplay wise so you saying you have played it is interesting. Which game would you say it's more alike? My experience with Examu is just AH and Aquapazza but you can go outside of their games if you want. From the looks of it it reminds me of something like a more anime-style aquappazza style of system. (more air mobility, more flexible chains, air blocking etc.)

N+ Blasters is pretty much everything I ever wanted Aquapazza to be.  If you've ever played Eternal Fighter Zero, it's got similar blocking system, but having multiple assists make it very true to an Examu background.

To make a painful generalization, I'd say it's like EFZ and Aquapazza put together but on crack.  The system is very fast, which I really appreciate as a former Melty Blood player.

If you're really hype for Saya, she's a very interesting character but pretty slow...It's like playing Aoko (Melty Blood) with long normals but at Nero speeds with fast teleports.

Anyway it's got everything a fighting game needs to be fun and interesting, so I would definitely give it a try.

Question, anyone have the link to that JP community site for Nitro+ Blasterz? I had it one time but I just recently deleted my browser history & cache so I kinda lost it. There is some info from that site that I need to put into my forum section for the game....oh and it's mostly complete now and my site is pretty much working (registration was broken due to huge bug).

Wait a fucking second. Are you saying N+B has Recoil Guarding?!

My interest in this game just went from mild to through the roof.

Also blarg Meat Monster.

I posted it a while ago right in this thread:

Never played EFZ, but from what I can read up, Vanishing Guard's only major difference seems to be that it doesn't have to be timed.

I don't know of eternal fighter but I'll look into it. It sounds great though. Thanks for the insight. Oh and I definitely am getting this, for sure.

I'm really hype for Saya and now Homura too, I figure Saya's more oki setup and Homura will be the extensive bursts of speed and power style char. I am versatile enough and don't have any one playstyle I "have" to have to enjoy a game so as long as a char I like is there I'll make do with whatever they are good at. That being said I have the most experience with Bang so chars like him are always easier to pick up and learn well. In melty I would play Seifuku Akiha, though I don't own the game and have only played it briefly at casuals and gatherings only a few times. People told me to do Ciel since I like Bang but Akiha (half moon) just clicked with me much more so I'm sure as long as I like the char it'll be fine.

Aquapazza is the game that made me like assists btw, I hated them prior to it and found them too OP but that game worked them out well (Camyu single-handedly made me like games with assists lol). It is very reassuring to hear this game will be like it in any capacity at all. Imo it's a really under-appreciated game.

From what I saw from the Famitsu mechanics demo, Vanishing Guard reduces pushback, blockstun, and negates chip, and uses a button(s) press instead of instant blocking.

The question though, is that if somebody VGs my attack, then retaliates, can I Vanishing Guard against that retaliation, even if I'm in recovery from my own attack?

That's what Recoil Guarding is in EFZ. It is an instant block that does all the aforementioned, and can be cancelled into any move on success. If you miss your RG, you get hit.

What sets RG apart is that two players can continuously RG back and forth, but as the RG war goes on, the frame window to Recoil Guard gets smaller the more RGs there are. The window to RG shrinks from 5 frames, gradually down to 1 frame.

That's what makes Recoil Guarding exciting: it allows blowing up the bullshit blockstrings that the game intentionally allows (A lot of moves are ridiculously + on block), at the expense of having the opponent read the RG and do it back. Imagine if Blitz Shield had no meter cost, but got progressively harder to do. Seeing RG wars in EFZ makes it hype as fuck.

Hmm, so a blitz shield and IB mix, interesting. I kinda prefer my IBs to be on back but I can learn this too. If I remember correctly one of the moons (that I didn't use) had something like that in melty.

Is there an english explanation of how the burst-mode thing works, and how the...I dunno, mashy combo thing works? As much as I hate everything about this game, it seems kind of fun just from wailing on the exceptionally stupid CPU (who will let you infinitely juggle them with Saya's down heavy).

Both those things have been explained in this thread.

Maybe I should do a write-up on some wiki so people don't have to search the thread that often.

I'm still wondering if they're going to release Tokyo Necro before they include Echika here as a playable character. It doesn't look like she's a console exclusive character so they're really gotta go fast with releasing Tokyo Necro so the people won't be spoiled (which is kinda hard to believe since they don't even have a normal site for the game with some actual information).

cool

They shouldn't have bothered making the game enjoyable if they didn't want fighting game fans to have to clarify such things. I don't like visual novels and I don't like mascot characters. But I did like Arcana Heart, so I gave the game a chance, and it was surprisingly enjoyable.

I searched several pages of the thread and did a google search, ok. If the explanation were somewhere obvious, getting annoyed with me would be more warranted.

Here you go. It's a bit outdated, but the Blast and VR write-ups are still true.

Remember how they promised to release it in Summer? That doesn't seem that likely at this point.

I'm sorry, are you saying fighting game fans are by definition supposed to dislike visual novels and stuff? Cause I think I am a fighting game fan (played them since early 90s, been competitive for like 7 years already, went to tourneys and even won money!) and I love that stuff!

Are you saying they shouldn't have made a fun game out of these things because you dislike them and now you are forced to play a game with them because the system is fun?

I dunno, my logical self would go in the direction of "I'm glad these guys who like this stuff get to enjoy a good game with their fav chars" rather than "why doesn't this suck i wish to keep hating it without sounding like an idiot!" lol.

All in all, the Psyduck icon really does sum a lot of this headache up lol.

Has anyone here been able to go to E3 in LA, California? XSeed has a demo at their booth currently.

Yeah that's why I'm wondering about how the hell they're going to include her in the arcade version before the announced console version release on winter if they've still haven't released the original game or at least any new information about its release.

Maybe you should've looked up, say, the official website for information on a game that is currently unavailable in English. :vbang:

Thanks. I guess I was kind of expecting there to be more to Variable Rush and Infinite Blast, but whatever.

All other responses were very anime, and precisely why I didn't want to read the whole thread.

Thanks. I guess I was kind of expecting there to be more to Variable Rush and Infinite Blast, but whatever.

Well, now that I'm at my PC, I can elaborate a bit on Variable Rush. It can be broken down into three different parts: the starter, the linkers (one for each button) and the enders (again, one for each button). The starter almost always has start-up invulnerability, but can also have some other properties: for example, Saya's starter tracks the opponent on the ground, while Ignis's guard-crushes. The difference between the linkers isn't that great when you land a starter (as they are pretty much guaranteed to connect, you just perform the most damaging one over and over again), but if they block the starter, you can keep hitting buttons to keep the mix-up going. For example, Ein's linkers include a low, an overhead and a cross-up; on the other side of the spectrum, Saya can't perform any linkers at all if her starter is blocked or whiffed. Lastly, the ender only happens if you actually landed the linker. Again, they have different properties, so use the one that fits your needs at the moment. Saya's enders include a launcher (so you can follow it up with an air combo), a hard knockdown and eating... err, recovering health.

Overall, it's a good mechanic for those who just picked up the game and had no time to learn the combos, but it's a bit less prominent at higher levels, since most characters can convert their meter into much better damage (especially with Assists).

Posted

Basically, the startup invuln (or the full screen tracking of Saya for punishing stuff that can't be punished otherwise) seem like the only reasons to use this "combo super" as I have been calling it from watching vids.
