[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
TeeJay replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
man, tough break there. Valiant effort. You must had a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing your play in the U.S. scene. I'm so hype but waiting for a N.A. release. I've never imported before but I'm curious about that pad. I plan to grab the limited addition. -
Kiba-- I like these categories and they give a much broader approach to match ups. Please add Mu somewhere haha. I am trying to figure out if there is another category to consider. Jin, Bullet, Makoto, Tsubaki, Terumi (though he is aggressive) etc may be in that neutral area. I like to approach Azrael like guerrilla warfare (no pun intended). I go in ham in flourishes while also playing tease and keep away the rest of the time.

I don't think Kiba is joking about his assessment of the Bang matchup. I've beaten some Azrael players while giving him stocks. I think it depends on how patient you can be. Sometimes I'll banana super just to get in, though I know it's not reliable. It's super risky but in situations where you can end a round quickly or get an upper-hand, it's not too bad. I've definitely both gotten lucky (had success) and gotten bodied doing it. This one bang player was driving me nuts with his drive though I started to open him up by just using 2BB starters on his wakeup and one about 5-6 straight against him. I haven't played too many Bang players or high level Bangs. I guess i was scared out of using 5BB.

Ogawa has been playing catchup as he hasn't had that many matches overall. -

I know TS Sabin doesn't link 3s at all and some SF players felt alienated by the game. Even the fireball game died. I'm down with Xrd but I wasn't heavily into the GG scene or new what it was until I was well in BB. I'm not sure this topic matters much. Arc made a new GG and like anyone in any real creative mindset, they don't want to recreate the same thing. I'm bored to tears if I'm even transcribing my own music for other instrumentation or something else. If I make an arrangement, it's gonna do some highly unexpected stuff. On the other hand, they could go the BB route and make things more difficult and nuanced as the series progressed. BB had 5f buffer which helped me as a fighting game noob. I couldn't even do basic Ragna combos. They probably want the game to grow and progress with a new generation. I'm not sure if this is a subconscious thing or a platform. I'm sure Arc knew the consequences and decided the risk was worth it. The most important thing for Xrd's health is that it captivates new players outside of the normal BB/GG community. If that happens, you have a great success and if not, you have BB or GG currently. -
I think he was referring to characters in a more basic way. ie: aggressive, defensive, grapplers, blah blah. Specifically it was "Learning to beat the player archetype is more important than the char match up. Match ups are more predictable than styles of play." I guess he meant it in a way to approaching in a more fundamental way then 20-30-40+ individual match-ups. I was thinking of it regarding playing types of people though. I probably should stop posting lol.
-
Ok, cool. I felt like it was a rhetorical and apprehensive question yet simultaneously needing a clear definition. Thanks. Random: I wonder how Valle's comments work in BB. He said (referring to Street Fighter) that learning player archetypes are more important than match-ups. I haven't thought much about the former honestly.
-
Random question: I hear people use the term game-plan a lot which seems a tiny bit ambiguous. Can someone give an example versus a Ragna? For instance, in the matchup, I try to use tk orbs and late air orbs and ground orbs to slow down his approach while I fish for anti-airs and hits. I try to play grounded. I also try to bait and neutralize his DP. I may try to yomi air grabs if I catch a pattern with his death scythe. Other than that, I'm kind've just winging it. Is that too general or oversimplification?
-
Yeah, I mostly follow Kiba's guide regarding Tager.
-
So... is 5a>5B>6B the stable of your pressure to keep people from mashing? Useful on Tager? I have a habit of locking people down with 5B (D) then dashing to whatever I want to do so I wonder if the aforementioned string and 5B 6B, 5B 22B/D compliments that well enough. I have a bad habit of predictable 5C cancels so I'm always trying to develop more innate variety. I'm sadly quite a minimalist regarding fighting games so I try to keep things simple and effective with subtle variations-- I can't pull out all the tricks at once but most incorporate them throughout a match. I wonder who else is like that? I suppose 5a 5B 6B>6BB or 5B 6B>6BB is strong off frame traps if you have 2 charges already for easy 3-3.5k.

That's what I assumed he meant. You have to block her honestly which looks scary from the FAB vs Hasegawa exhibition-- well at least Pot. -

Now I need to remember Woshige's list. He had Chipp at S which is interesting. lol Nvm after the great post before me. Intriguing. It seems i-no is getting jerked around a bit. Perhaps her potential is deceptive to most. -
Has anyone heard anything regarding air-throw hit-box adjustments or any other mechanic tweaks besides GCOD for 2.0?
-
I suppose the thread is intended for factual gathering and specific information rather than more philosophical or opinionated discussions. The latter is pretty abstract or subjective. I admit that I haven't thought about the thread as the former so I suppose that's where the miscommunication is. I'm not quite sure how that's to be executed. I don't think anyone listing specific details is that shoddy.

Do you mean Tsubaki? I may be in general agreement with you reluctantly. She doesn't have anything ridiculously lopsided. I'm no talent at all but i'm free to the Jin matchup and have also been struggling against Mu. I don't like playing Koko, Bullet (normals), Az (just due to his damage), and Ragna can be annoying. i'm having trouble recalling characters. i definitely don't approach any matchup thinking Tsubaki got this free. Oddly, I'm okay with Litchi but that's probably because I played her since CT.

It was nice getting to see the Pachi exhibition matches. Now I have a glimpse of what Sin and Elphelt will look like competitively. Here are the Jourdal stream mirrors. Thanks to King and ElvenShadow for the original vids. Part 1 FAB (Pot) vs Rion (Ky) Hazagawa (I-no) vs Ain (Ky) Part 2 Arc Revo Finals Rematch Pachi (Sin) vs FAB (Pot) Pachi (Elphelt) vs Gazou (Faust) -
Very true. My sis will hop on Netflix and I'm like, sorry everyone, I'm done with netplay today. Well, I only play when no one else is home.
-
What is this free for all setting? I never knew that existed.

I was practicing some anti-air and cross-up reaction training mode things with the random playback recording feature. I tend to use 1C anti-airs or 1 for a lot of lows since I sometimes mistakingly 3c on stick. I noticed when the Ragna cpu recording tried to IAD crossup, my 1C input turned into a 3C in the other direction. Does that ghetto option select have any usefulness at all? Think it'll low profile cross-ups? It seems sketchy and unreliable in timing. I wonder if I was just reacting really late. Does anyone use the multiple recordings like this for simple/other fundamental things? I could use anything useful. lol I was making randomly SF4 jump in recordings just to speed up my shoryuken reaction speeds.

lol I was about to post this hahaha. Thanks for the vid. It's a good sign that the viewers didn't realize it was the PS3 version until reading Playstation 3. -
