  1. ya kno, there's an arcade near my university, and they not only have 2 arcade cabs for HnK, but they also regularly have HnK tournaments. lol (surprisingly, they also have a JoJo's cab.)
  2. go with Testament. even if you don't use Forward EXE Beast FRC, you still get the net combos, the long combos, and some of the other stuff you mentioned. if you like the screen shaking, just go into training mode once in a while and practice sidewinder/grand viper combos for fun.
  3. well i know you can use google as well as i can, but here's a free textbook i found: http://www.math.odu.edu/~jhh/counter2.html here's another one that focuses a lot on the notation and the basic concepts/formulae for working with tensors: ttp://faculty.gg.uwyo.edu/dueker/tensor%20curvilinear%20relativity/tensor%20analysis%20intro.pdf out of curiosity, how were you told to review tensor calculus and N-S? were you given a specific problem to solve, or was this a general instruction to review the basics?
  4. thx Nigel! i'll definitely pass that along to her. ================================================ Gabe: unfortunately i don't know any good textbooks off-hand, since i learned tensor calculus through my general relativity and E&M courses. and from what i've seen, what constitutes a good reference on tensor calculus really depends on what you want to use it for -- the theory has a really abstract development from the "pure math"/differential geometry point of view, for example, but for the purposes of calculating physical quantities, it's more a matter of just learning the basics of the language/notation and learning some of the more important formulae (and what they mean). you mentioned fluid simulation two posts ago, so i'm guessing you just need to learn enough to do some numerical simulations?
  5. Bollywood comedy? btw my wife has a former coworker who is moving to Vancouver because her husband has a job there, and she was asking me and my wife for advice about living there and stuff. i couldn't give her any specific advice about Vancouver, but I was wondering if you guys had any advice for someone who's coming to Canada for the first time and is gonna be living downtown (she said on 7th Avenue). especially stuff like where are safe/unsafe places in Vancouver, cuz my wife and I have no idea when it comes to that for Vancouver.
  6. mike have you distributed wedding invitations yet? it's actually less for me and more for other people to start deciding whether they wanna come to Tokyo or not, but at the same time, the earlier i get a headcount, the easier the planning will be.
  7. i just thought it was the "na~ na-na-na-na~~" song... didn't realize it even had a proper name.
  8. ray: what was that video supposed to be alluding to? Yuan said it reminded him of something from ME2, and for me the only thing that comes to mind are the videos that you can access from the Shadow Broker's lair (the sound effects sound vaguely similar).
  9. GameFAQs -> Guilty Gear X2 -> FAQs -> Story Mode FAQ by EChang. ttp://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/562111-guilty-gear-x2/faqs/20666
  10. http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/juniorhockey/blog/buzzing_the_net/post/Video-Shaft-acular-trick-by-Tomas-Jurco-a-show-?urn=juniorhockey-309382 Good stuff from Tomas Jurco, dunno how old this video really is, though. The last goal is amazing!
  11. when you say X2... do you really mean X2? or XX AC? if you're into charge-type characters, may and potemkin are alright IIRC. if you aren't, then sol, ky, and chipp are good to start with, i guess. is this your first fighting game, btw? baiken isn't good to start with because her main gimmick is attacking out of block (guard cancels). bridget's yo-yo requires specific knowledge of some of the game mechanics to be able to handle him well. Dizzy isn't "bad", per se, but her main approach is to use her summons to control the screen, and since you have to be able to judge when it's safe to throw them out, and when you should be running away, it might not be best for an absolute beginner. [edit: then again Dizzy was pretty good anyway, so you might be able to get away with not using her summons optimally.] actually now that i think about it, May's combos were harder before AC, although i forget what exactly made them harder. but it was something to do with the timing of the charge input for her dolphin specials, and then being able to combo to other hits. (they somehow made it easier in either Slash or AC.) so she might be frustrating to combo with, if you're a beginner. well anyways, like i said before, it depends on why you're playing. if you already have experience with other FGs, that also affects how quickly you take to GG (and therefore which characters are easier to understand, for you).
  12. got one: "chasten horny fool". i'll let you guess.
  13. awesome, mega chink. never thought of that one. arcane clench sounds... painful. like if there were a "spellcast failure" system in some fantasy RPG, and when you fail you get... "abdominal pain" or something.
  14. paul: use the median for your blocker app! the mean is only "good" because it's computationally easy, but since your sample size is 5 points, it shouldn't be difficult to implement a median "calculation". (the median is much stronger at resisting the effects of outliers like "faults" in blocking, and hiccups in online connection.)
  15. yuan: reminds me of the "monstrous moonshine" theory in math. if you go on arXiv (or just look on google, even), you'll see research papers and articles on "moonshine theory" lol. i thought it was a joke, at first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monstrous_moonshine actually here, just for fun, i did a search for "moonshine" on arXiv: http://arxiv.org/find/all/1/all:+moonshine/0/1/0/all/0/1 "brewing moonshine for mathieu" "generalized moonshine" etc.
  16. wow that translator was hot lol. somehow didn't expect that. yes please distribute!
  17. did people get their invitation cards yet? (esp. Mike, since i sent you a bit more than i sent most of my guests!) my parents and some of relatives elsewhere said that they already got theirs, and I was just wondering about you guys. i suppose even if you haven't, could i get a rough show of how many people were thinking of coming? just to refresh everyone's memory, it's on Sunday, March 27th, in the afternoon (ceremony is at 12:20, reception at 1:20 at the same venue). my wife and i are at the stage in the planning where we are sort of playing "travel agent" for our guests, since most people have never been to Tokyo before, so this is a good time to also talk with you guys about what to do, where to stay, etc. I included an email address in the invitation card, so you can email me there or at my MSN address, which i check everyday, if you wanna ask me something. and again, i just wanted to say that, although it'd be nice to have you guys come out, i realize that it's far away, and that the end of March might not be convenient (esp. for university students!), so it's perfectly understandable if you can't make it out. we'll make sure to get lots of pictures and try to have most of the reception recorded, so people who couldn't come will be able to at least watch it.
  18. so in case others haven't seen it, paul posted a "millia blocker app" thread in the Guilty Room, i recommend everyone give it a try. what's your average paul? i seem to be around 22F
  19. show the median instead of/in addition to the average.
  20. mike: did you get my envelope? idk, i guess i never considered story mode to qualify for a "visual novel", but i suppose they're not so different?
