[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
TAI-X replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
And the execution barrier will still be lower than SFIV frame links. It's ALWAYS been accessible to do basic, non-roman combos in GG because of magic series and the generous input windows. Also, GG characters have more straightforward and improvised playstyles than in BB, where many characters have arbitrary Drive mechanics that their entire strategy hinges on and can only be applied a few different ways. -
You won't find any videos in that quality from arcade streams. Now that the PS4 demo is out, you can find some HD video from that or record it yourself. but the level of play will likely not be high.

What's the worst fighting game you've played?

I hope he bought Sculptor's Cut to top off a complete N64 collection and not to actually play it. -
It's probably a soundtrack release, price drops on digital games, or more pointless DLC items. I never meant to say that EXVS is the same as VO. It's a conceptually similar game that is also of high quality

I remember this was an early favorite with the Insert Credit/Madman's Cafe crowd, waaaay back when Westerners were just discovering doujin games for the first time and before the Touhou craze was in full swing. It quickly got eclipsed by Eternal Fighter Zero and Melty Blood though. Amazingly enough, Madman's Cafe still exists, though there's only about five people left on the forums.

Any wired 360/PS3 controller or stick will plug straight into a PC via USB, and generic USB gamepads abound. PS3 controllers may take some finagling with third-party applications, but 360 (and soon, XOne) controllers are natively supported by Windows.

Too early to tell, but Duck Hunt is pretty universally considered S Tier and Meta Knight is still near the top of the pack. Little Mac is up there too, but he suffers from arguably the worst recovery in the game.
-
I like Vampire Hunter's distinct playstyle quite a bit, and it definitely wasn't rendered obsolete by VSav. It's similar to the distinction between SF Alpha 2 and 3. I never saw many players for it on Resurrection but I played where I could.

No one would play it because Marz sucks. It would have been smarter to port Force and VOOT to the PS3, but I guess Sega decided it wasn't worth the investment. At least Gundam VS. exists to fill the void.

You must be using a toaster if you can't run Melty Blood, the system requirements are pretty low. MBAACC ran perfectly on my mid-range laptop from 5 years ago.

I really doubt that Leo will play similar to Azrael. I'm sure Arc knows it's what everyone's expecting and they'll do everything they can to subvert it. I'm guessing he'll be a spellcaster of some sort. -
Marz started as a port of Force, but was considerably gimped and padded out with SP action-adventure content because the PS2 couldn't match the Hikaru arcade hardware. You definitely can't do 3 or 4-player splitscreen matches, even with a multitap. The original Xbox could have pulled it off, though I guess Sega didn't think there was enough of a market on the system. I still don't really like Force even in its undiluted form, though. It's worth mentioning that the digital release of Marz on PSN does support the PS3 twinsticks.

Don't worry, there's no shortage of merch for the swimming anime. *snicker* -
I assume there's next to no Western players to be found online for the PS3 version of VOOM? For whatever reason, it was denied a US release along with Virtua Striker, despite the first three Model 2 Collection games making it over. It's surprising that Striker didn't at least make it to Europe; I've heard it was one of the most popular arcade games there back in the day.

I've played the original in various arcades and used to play VOOT on XBLA a lot. Couldn't get into Force at all, it felt too clunky and too heavily weighted towards teamwork for my liking. Marz is better left unspoken. I was pissed when Sega didn't release the 360/PS3 Model 2 Collection port of VOOM outside of Japan, though. I remember seeing a major surge of interest in the series when VOOT was released for 360 globally, but with the last truly new Virtual On game being over a decade old and no signs of a proper follow-up, it's really tapered off since. It seemed like Sega was gearing up for a sequel after the Force port; they had a detailed survey (in Japanese) asking what people would want out of one. Sadly, nothing came of it. I would have settled for a home version of Border Break... Never forget that before Call of Duty existed, Activision published the Dreamcast version of VOOT.

ATTN JOJO FANS: JJBA HD (not All-Star Battle) delisted from XBLA/PSN

Say what you will about Capcom's business practices, but it's now been 100% confirmed by Ono that the reason we got screwed out of a Darkstalkers sequel is because of Resurrection failing to meet the sales expectations set for it. -
Game looks fine to me. The new 2D fighter-style mechanics don't seem anywhere near as intrusive or harmful to balancing as they were in SCV. The DOA Power Blow comparison is apt, because there's no meter. I just knew there would be splashing particle effects over everything like in Killer Instinct 3 to remind everyone that the game's on new hardware. While they're annoying, I bet they'll be toned down for the final version or you can turn them off in the console ports.

Psychic Force really deserved to have more of a following outside Japan. Taito completely nailed the "free-floating projectile fighter" formula, well before anyone else started developing similar games, i.e. Senko no Ronde or the modern DBZ fighters. It also featured a command to homing dash straight at your opponent (and then cancel into a melee combo) before Arcana Heart, The PS1 fighter based off Clamp's X saga is actually a reskinned Psychic Force. The series also got a two episode anime OVA. There was a NESiCA arcade re-release of 2012 not long ago, which means it would be a trivial matter to port it to current consoles or PCs now if they cared enough. -

Sadly, I won't be too surprised if Aksys announces it's been pushed back. They've clearly stretched themselves incredibly thin by taking on so many localization projects with retail releases at once, and the messy business of manufacturing all those Xrd limited editions for two platforms was sure to drag them down. They may have also had to go through an additional certification process, since it's their first PS4 game. Plus, given that this is such a major release for both companies, ArcSys probably wants to make sure that no corners are cut with the localization this time around (looking at the absent Library Mode in BBCP & the game's generally poor translation quality) and that they give it the best treatment possible. At least, I hope so. -
Although I hold to my opinion that the PC is not an ideal platform for fighting games in general, it is for this one, given its high level of obscurity and low popularity. If Examu wants to try a consumer release of DB on their own, Sony and MS' licensing fees combined with the necessary porting work are probably enough of a barrier to shut it out of consoles. I'm not confident that they can successfully manage an international Kickstarter without the stiff guidance of a US publisher, either.

Coincidentally enough, the developers of Killing Zone (Scarab) went on to handle porting duties for the Dreamcast version of Fighting Vipers 2! -
I don't believe anyone's pointed out that you can see a couple of Sin/Ky's units from GG2 in the background of Sin's stage.

FV2 won't win you over if you hated the original for whatever reason, but it plays smoother and faster, and has 4 awesome new characters alongside the addition of SFIII-like parries, with a flashy but impractical "win two rounds in one" mechanic thrown in for good measure. It's pretty interesting that Sega stuck with single-plane movement (except for recovery rolls) even after VF3 was out. It would have been excessive on top of the parries and guard attacks, though. FV2 gets really overlooked in the Dreamcast library, because it came out late in the system's active life and never saw a US release. Anyway, it doesn't belong in a "worst fighting game" thread by any stretch. -

I think it's a given that PS3 support will not last through the game's full lifespan. Through the company's history, ArcSys has dropped Dreamcast (after GGX), Xbox (after Isuka), Wii (after AC), and Xbox 360 (after BBCSE, and in Japan, after P4U) support from successive updates of their fighters when those consoles either got too old, or fell out of favor with their audience. PS3 is next on the chopping block.
