King of Fighters 98 UM & 2002 UM: Steam Edition
TAI-X replied to Vulcan422's topic in Misc Fighter Central
I hope these carry over the 3D rendered stages from the PS2 ports. They were absent from the 360 XBLA versions. I also hope the netcode is a step up from those, but I'm not really holding my breath. By the way, I'm looking for KOF '94/95/96 opponents on PS3 (Neo-Geo Station), if anyone is interested. Preferably '95. I hear these versions have stellar netcode, but haven't been able to try it out. -
What a lameass wankbait boobie character. She must be intended as the female counterpart to Miguel, who was similarly forgettable.

Probably much closer to Tekken Revolution. The critical hit mechanic would be an obvious one to carry over into a Pokemon game.

ATTN JOJO FANS: JJBA HD (not All-Star Battle) delisted from XBLA/PSN
TAI-X replied to TAI-X's topic in Misc Fighter Central
I don't like the cancerous attitude that high-quality, online-enabled ports of classic fighting games are rendered worthless by GGPO/Supercade. It reinforces any notions publishers may have about their supposed "fans" not actually caring about these games, and being unwilling to support any future sequels with their dollars. It encourages apathy towards established audiences, of the kind we saw when Megaman Legends 3 was famously canceled. It also does a disservice to the efforts and talents of those who work to port the antiquated source code of these games to modern systems without emulation. If more people had opted to purchase Darkstalkers Resurrection instead of continuing to play Vampire Savior online through illicit means, we might have heard about a new sequel by now. However, Capcom considered it an unsuccessful experiment, and quickly backpedaled from their "Darkstalkers are not dead" promise. You reap what you sow. -

I'm starting to get worried that Arc is going to throw PS3 players under the bus and release all future retail updates of Xrd as PS4 exclusives. Both the demo and the Japanese limited edition are only on PS4. You'd think we'd have seen a single comparison shot by now. I plan to get a PS4 eventually once the system's library fills out, but it probably won't be for a few years, and I'm not too keen on paying for a second online multi subscription on top of XBL Gold. -

They still haven't showed any screens or video of the PS3 version, have they? -
Capcom probably wouldn't accept a buyout by a Chinese company for cultural reasons. Call it racism if you want, but Japanese companies really don't like being placed in a subservient position to the Chinese or Koreans if they can avoid it. I think Namco-Bandai is by far the most likely to buy them. It would probably lead to TxSF actually getting finished, too... Digital-only games in general rarely receive much advertising, because the lack of retail presence always restricts games to a more limited market. Also, Capcom probably decided that the game was too niche for advertising to pay off. Resurrection did get a retail release in Japan, though.

It's gone from everywhere. Only way to get it now is to gameshare with an account that owns it. -

If Amazon knows a game is coming out in a certain year but not what day, they will always list it as December 31 of that year until a solid date is given. Since this is such a major release for ArcSys and Aksys, I'm expecting a near-simultaneous JP and US date. There's no way they aren't throwing the full weight of their localization resources behind Xrd. -
Simon is in DreamMix TV, a Japan-only Smash clone for Gamecube featuring Konami, Hudson, and Takara characters such as Bomberman and Optimus Prime. I think anyone in their right mind would rather forget Captain N ever happened. It's on a lower level than CD-I Zelda in my eyes.

Capcom's not selling their IPs piecemeal. Anyone interested in their assets has to buy the entire company, or nothing.

Aksys has made some real weaksauce LEs in the past. CS Extend's was just a bunch of printed official art that was fully available in the in-game gallery. There was also some silliness with Fate/Extra's LE where you only got one of the booklets if you bought it online from Gamestop. I hope they up their game for Xrd's LE materials. I do understand that they can't include complete OST CDs because their Japanese licensors get worried about reverse importation, though. They expect their Japanese customers to buy those separately at full price. -

They told you wrong. It's a really solid port, better than any of Iron Galaxy's Capcom ports, and the netcode is some of the best I've used despite not being GGPO. The "HD" moniker is dubious, but they scaled up the original graphics very nicely, and redrew the HUD elements & certain effect sprites. Only nitpicks are that it's missing JoJo's Venture (the Dreamcast port let you select it) and Super Story Mode from the PS1 version. -
The chances of a new Darkstalkers sequel are indeed looking very slim right now. First, Resurrection sold quite poorly, and that release was rather explicitly made to test the waters and gauge how much interest there would be in a sequel. Second, Capcom is dire financial straits right now, and is looking for someone to buy them out. We probably won't see another all-new FG from them at all until that happens.
-
Without any prior warning, Capcom has removed their online-enabled "HD" (not really) port of the CPS3 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fighter from XBLA in all regions. You can still get it on PSN in the US at the time of this writing, but I've heard it's already gone from the Japanese store. This is undoubtedly due to their contract for the license expiring, and it's truly stupid that they didn't give potential buyers plenty of advance notice and a last-minute fire sale, as they did when they lost their hold on the Marvel Vs. series. So if you still want the game on PS3, I'd strongly advise you to get on it ASAP before they pull it for good. You'll still be able to retrieve it off PSN/XBL through your account's download list after buying it, even if it's not available for purchase afterwards, so no worries on that front.

Go back to Tumblr, Elk. This isn't your crowd. -
To be even more blunt, almost no one would use online play even if it existed, and the netcode would be sure to be subpar at best. Even for more popular games from established franchises and well-known companies, like MvC Origins, Darkstalkers Resurrection, Virtua Fighter 5 FS and KOF 2002 UM, the online lobbies became ghost towns after the first month or two. Hell, I even struggle to find matches for DOA5U these days, at least on the 360 version that doesn't have a free-to-play component. And that just had a new character released. If a fighting game doesn't have a strong IRL tournament scene and streaming presence in the West, and if it isn't being headlined at EVO, few people will care about competition.
-
It would be very unnecessary. The adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind. Project M exists because Brawl was a steaming POS compared to Melee, with all sorts of highly questionable design choices, and entirely unsuited to competitive play. Vampire Savior is the pinnacle of its series and arguably Capcom's entire fighting game catalog. Also, Capcom already did add a "new" character for the PS2 collection (Dee), and the results were underwhelming to say the least.

If you're serious about doing this, PLEASE hire an event coordinator that knows what they're doing to avoid a Dashcon-like situation. It NEVER works out when a bunch of inexperienced and overzealous nerds who underestimate the difficulties of event planning try to arrange these things all by themselves.

TAI-X replied to Vulcan422's topic in Misc Fighter Central
At least the system requirements will be low, especially if you can disable 3D backgrounds. These are Type-X1 games. I personally prefer 02UM to 98UM as well, but they're both incredibly good representatives of KOF's run on Neo-Geo, especially with Krauser knocked down from god tier status in Final Edition. 98UM does offer more variety with its Advanced/Extra/Ultimate meter selection. I was kinda miffed that we never got 94 Re-Bout, because that early pre-hopping style deserves recognition too, but it really should have been 95 Re-Bout. That was a total improvement over the original in every way, aside from the USA Sports Team getting cut (whyy?). -
