What makes ASW fighting games fun is that it's unorthodox, it's gimmicky, and that's what makes it fun. Creative freedom, so to speak. This is a discussion that can go on for hours so I'm just trying to paraphrase it, but when you take away that freedom, and everyone starts playing the same style, it's not very fun.

BB committed a cardinal sin of game design; they made it unfun. A lot of JP players were explaining why they stopped playing wasn't because of nerfs but because it just stopped being fun.

That's a bad habit if I ever saw one; never underestimate anime grapplers. Even if its Xrd Potemkin, one good mistake, one good read and a good grappler player can blow you up.

I'd buy a Sol and I-No one if I could.

Softban...what the fuu--dshuhub...heck does that even mean? It's either banned or it's not. If it's not forced, then it's basically just a stern recommendation and finger-waggling, like you're shaming people for choosing a sexy costume.
-
I'm fairly certain the point I was making is somewhere in orbit around the moon as it flies completely over your head. The point is, changing the policy on "sexy outfits" is not going to matter for any social reason, and it's not fair to the people who DO enjoy that particular element of the game; especially since it's cosmetic, it has no effect on the gameplay. The ankles thing is a reference to certain laws back in the 1920s where women weren't allowed to show skin.

GGXrd Canadian Online Play Issues
Hollysmoke replied to DeterminedHermit's topic in Guilty Gear Online Play
You can play against anyone. Just try and connect to the US zone that's closest too you. I live in Toronto so I usually connect to the US East Coast. -
HE ONLY NEEDS ONE GLOVE. ARE THEY RUBBER GLOVES? THE GLOVES MAY COME OFF, BUT SOMETHING ELSE IS STILL GOING TO BE ON. These are horrible and I'm glad I got it out of my system. I'm out. Stay frosty.

Must...resist...urge to respond with sexual innuendo...

I just want Hayabusa in a banana hammock and his ninja mask. I detest these kinds of discussions because people always get passionate about the topic. So no more please. Mercy.

C'mon now, at least keep it as a discussion and not an attack. Let's get this thread back on track, yeah?

Actually, the counter system is what I enjoyed about it too, as well as a lot of other DOA players. That's why I enjoyed 2 quite a bit; it's like a complex system of rock paper scissors.

Well, you brought up the point of sexualization in a form of modern media, I gave you an out and you didn't take it. Now you can lie in the bed you made. This isn't a matter of modern feminism, it's been a thing that's been around for decades, unfortunately certain groups of people have blown it out of proportion. My power keeps going out so I'll try to make this quick; you're playing a game who's main selling point is sex appeal. A game, who's designer and creator since the FIRST GAME advertised that appeal as a marketing ploy, and in many interviews didn't even hide this fact, stating specifically that's why he created it. It worked, people like it. For 20 years people have enjoyed it, and now by hiding behind a social issue as an excuse, one group of people want to take away something enjoyable from another group of people. The feminism was brought up because you need to understand the issues that contrast against the social issue people are hiding behind. "The game is sexst!" No, it's not. "It's a gratuitous sexualization of women!" No, it's not. "It makes me uncomfortable!" then don't play it. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you should have to ruin it for others, especially when you're hiding behind a social point to do so.

"I don't like the sex appeal of the game, but I'm totally okay with forcing this opinion on other people who may or may not enjoy it regardless" You keep supporting that "soft ban". The characters aren't one-note, sidelined characters specific to the point of simply being objects of sexual gratification; their sexuality is open and defined, and ties into the rest of their character. When people like you start feeling "uncomfortable" by it is when women have to keep defending their choice to do what they want or wear what they feel like. The issue isn't whether or not you find it sexist, it's the fact that your attitude is suppressive of female progression in any medium. Soon enough, I'll have to wear a long skirt because my ankles will offend your senses. Gross, now I'm covered in tumblr ooze. Look what you made me do. Just shut up and go play games people.

To be fair, depending on the latency sometimes its difficult to react to overheads. That's why a lot of Ky players get blown up at tournaments; that raw Greed Sever only works on netplaaaaaaaaaaa~~yyyyy!

Stop. Step back, and ask yourself if out of all the people in this thread, *I'M* the one you want to have this discussion with. I'm giving you an out because you will lose and look like an ass. I have never once at any point, on any thread went "LOLOLOL LOOK AT ME IM A GAMER GIRL", but I will use this card this once to make a point.
-
I'm more concerned about going to a tournament and feeling uncomfortable because of some creepy guy not respecting my personal space more than I am of digital breasts; the same people who can casually bring up rape as a humorous topic of discussion on twitch channels. *I* could go on, but I digress; I hate tumblr and I don't feel like tumblring this shit up.
-
As part of the people, are you speaking on my behalf? No, so stop it. Boobs aren't what makes a game sexist. None of the female characters are neither oppressed, abused or victimized by any male characters in anyway. In fact, I'm fairly certain most of the female characters are capable of punting most of the men to the moon if they truly wanted too. Sexual appeal and sexism are two different things and people need to start learning to discern the two or... EDIT: I should also mentioned I've played 2 and 5 and I both games to be quite fun to play with a certain campy appeal to them.

I don't know about going ham; it's better to play a bit safer and see if they're the kind of player to try and fish for a knockdown with HCL or if they're trying to trick you up with gimmicks. If you find them to be of the fishing type, then go for the bait and punish. If they're playing gimmicky, go ham. it really just depends on the opponent's playstyle.

Oh I forgot one more point: -Full screen note is free for Zato and Leo since they can reflect it. Be careful with its use against them.

Just some quick thoughts: -HCL is something a lot of experienced players expect from I-No so they try and bait it out and punish it. This was something dude was doing and he caught you a couple times with it. Depending on spacing, you may want to YRC it. -You got some confirms in the corner but didn't do VCL loops; you coulda blown him up at times. -For neutral you can also jD FDC to try and cross him up, or empty dash land into something else, or even just jD overhead. -HCL~D into note oki can also work. It's not the best but it's better than nothing and wasting a knockdown.

You're welcome. If you have any other questions, feel free to msg me. Just understand that practicing links is quite difficult because it's a very small window of frames to follow up before the opponent techs. You'll have to practice getting the timing of these down until its second nature. Good luck on your endeavours.

Nothing. I was just calling out your analogy. You're doing literally what he just asked you NOT to do.

It's even funnier when people think he's still bad and go on him with that train of thought.
