Arakune Critique Thread - Help out fellow Arakunes!
Speakeasy replied to SecretAgentN3al's topic in Arakune
Which game is this thread for? I'm assuming Chronophantasma, but if Extend videos are allowed too, I have an Arakune-using friend that could probably use some advice. I don't play Arakune myself (too hard for me to learn), but I figured someone has to ask at some point. -
I was inspired some time ago to draw this, since a character designer at ASW seems to have been inspired by MC Hammer's massive pants. It could be a lot better, but I don't feel like adding any more to this and I don't have the pen I use for lines anymore.

I mostly play Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend on the Vita and obviously have to use the Vita controls for that. I love the Vita buttons to bits. They're fantastic. Vita's d-pad blows the hell out of every other d-pad I've ever had the pleasure of touching. On the PS3, I play with my Madcatz Arcade Fightstick Pro. I wanted a different stick, and my decision probably would have been based on what artwork the stick had, but the Pro was the only one that wasn't painful to track down. I'm much better on the PS3 controller than I am with the stick right now, but it's too comfortable to give up. On the 360, I have one of those Marvel vs Capcom pads For UMvC3 and Extend action. It's leagues better than the regular 360 controller.

I'm sure there isn't a single person on the planet surprised that Yu is still a top character, but I hated fighting him because of how he seems to have an answer for everything Elizabeth could do. It helps that I mostly ran into people skilled enough to know when to mix up their spamming but annoying enough to continue to spam, so I could never learn to fight actual, sincere Yu players. Hopefully I'll get to grind my axe against more players this time around and learn what to do about the slide and that damned air approach thing.
-
I think I understand now. I'm still going to use her off and on out of spite, though. I want to play around with her new stuff. If I don't have to put up with Yu vs Elizabeth anymore, though, I'd be happy to main someone else. God, I hope Yu isn't even more annoying for Lizzy to fight.

I usually drop 236DC(the one that comes from the far side of the screen, not sure what to call it) or 246DC after 6C. It's pretty rare to actually get somebody with them, but it keeps them mindful of the ground and usually forces them to come toward me via airdashing. And hey, if it does hit, I'm not complaining. So 236A is a super-dash in essence? Good to know. EDIT: Alright, didn't want to double post and I have a question that would suit the matchup thread better, but it's been archived. When fighting against Hazama, what do you do once he gets in? In my experience, once a Hazama gets past my zoning, it's over. How do I make it not over and fight back? I can't seem to punish anything when blocking.

So it would be more accurate to say that everybody else got buffed too much, relatively-speaking?
-
Obviously I have very little experience with anything other than netplay, but I feel like if Mamudoon and Mahamaon were made into C and D versions of the same move, it would be less appalling to have them taking up space. Not sure what the other slot would be filled by, though. Also, is Suplex Lizzy really getting hit that hard with the nerf stick? I don't know a lot about the changes they've made and how they apply, but dammit, I like playing as Lizzy. I don't want to have to switch characters or be fighting an always-uphill battle. Are her options and tools gone or weaker or something?
-
So how useful is 236A? I know it's good for scooting past SLEDGE! HAMMER! but I don't really know when else to use it, which is a shame since it's a great way to get around problems. I guess I just need to learn how to time it.

I'm really sorry that I don't have the image on hand, but I'd like an avatar, oh Great and Powerful Avatar Gods. One of the chibi-ish Lambda from Special CG 2 of Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend's gallery. The full image has Kokonoe front and center with a chibi Lambda top-right and Tager's face bottom-right in the background. Just Lambda cropped into avatar size would be perfect. If that's too much work, just the chibi Lambda from the Litchi and Kokonoe special things would work just as well, especially if she has that little question mark that appears in those shorts over her head. Background is whatever you feel like - or nothing if you don't want to bother. Thanks in advance! http://blazblue.wikia.com/wiki/File:Lambda-11_(Chibi).png - Chibi Lambda

So is he not as fun as in Extend? From what I've played of him in Extend, it felt like he was about exploiting openings and using those juicy counters to beat the opponent with raw skill. Every hit you got was a failure on the enemy's part, so it was like beating them and rubbing your victory in their face at the same time. Now is he just "hit a few times and done"? .... Judging from that description, I may be a sociopath. I should probably seek professional help.

I kept thinking Ma-Ryan would just get pelted by more books and it would be pointless anyway.
-
Shout-out to Crimefighter's mad book-throwing skills.
-
Standard fare, then. Is the outrage justified, in the opinions of people that have actually played Chronophantasma? I haven't even looked up videos of it because I'm waiting for the US release to play and don't want months of looking at stuff I can't do yet.
-
I only read the last few pages of this thread, but what is it about CP Hakumen that's got everyone's knickers in a twist? Was he really changed that drastically from Extend?
-
I still hope that people don't use it online.
-
I can't have nothin'.... I want to learn someone else now, but that's work and I'll have to learn Morgan's inputs and tricks since she likes to zip around too.
-
I'm taking a liking to Chizuru and Ma-Ryan. It feels almost unfair though, since I can usually confetti my way to safety and I'm so damn maneuverable. Is Chizuru just incredibly high-tier or is being maneuverable her thing?
-
Ooooh, there's an idea. How does he play? I've played against him, but I don't understand him well enough to know what to go for when using him.

I've only had one person refuse the match after being rednamed. I'm assuming that since I didn't get a message along the lines of "I HATE YOU YOU STUPID REDNAMED RAGEQUITTING BUTTHEAD YOU'RE ADOPTED" that either the person refused for a different reason or they only know Japanese and didn't want to send me a message in Japanese. The red name does look kinda cool, not gonna lie... I wish I knew why I had it, though.

So I only ever learned one character in Arena. I had that month-or-so period where I just hit random and played with whoever I got until I settled on someone I liked, but after that Elizabeth was my girl. I love her extensive tools and different methods of approaching characters. I like that you kind of have to have a game plan for certain characters. Relying heavily on Thanatos and being crippled if you run out of cards but being able to control the flow of the match with a lot of skill and a bit of luck is mesmerizing to me. Elizabeth is just so much fun to play, I've never used anyone else. And that's where the problem comes in. I only know the game through the lens of fighting with Elizabeth. I get the fundamentals, but I've only ever used them in the way Elizabeth requires you to in order to be good. Persona cards are Thanatos cards. I think there's a roster of 13 fighters, but there could only be 1 and I'd never know. I've plateaued in skill with Elizabeth, and while there are a lot of factors such as me just not having the skill to get any better, I think that a large part of it is that I lack perspective. I know the ins and outs of strategies for Elizabeth, but I have no other experience in Arena to compare them to. The same thing happened in Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend - I reached a point where I thought I couldn't get any better with my main, but I started to learn a different character and began climbing the ladder once more. I suppose that in the end, this boils down to a "what should we learn next?" thread, but I feel like it could help more players than just me to think about switching to a new fighter for a bit. For example, I like to play characters that have tools for just about everything. I'm okay with being okay-to-bad in one area if they excel in another, such as Lambda. Lambda can hit you basically anywhere on the screen, but doesn't have a lot of options at close range or under pressure, at least not how I play her. Platinum's items let her do just about anything, but you have to have certain items to do certain things and the order's random so you have to be able to adapt your strategy to suit what you have. That's fun to me. Much more fun than grapplers or people that have certain do-everything moves to strongarm their way through careful strategy. Not naming any names here. *whistles* I think that someone like Misturu, Aigis, or Shadow Labrys would best fit my playstyle, but I'm coming to the reliquary of knowledge here at Dustloop to ask: Who's a good jack-of-all-trades and/or zoner to learn? Also maybe list characters that fit other playstyles or would be easier to learn coming from other characters, I don't know. :L

Oh, so that's what it is. Thank you. Now I know when to interrupt the grab in midair or wait until they come back.
-
Do you mean 2C? I haven't really had success with it in the past. I usually jump back and bean him while he's cooling down.
-
I can't believe I forgot Tager spammers. SLEDGE! HAMMER! and a tiny handful of Lambda's moves can hurt him.

Anybody know what the rules are for determining whether or not 5D will make the enemy bounce after the throw? I'm pretty sure that if you throw the enemy into the corner behind you, they'll bounce, and that there's some magic distance that causes bouncing, but that all I can tell. It almost feels random to me.
