Wow, only now people say something?
What took so damn fucking long for people to say shit, much less post?
If this what it takes to get people to post, WTF?
For the longest time prior to Summer/Fall 2010, there wasn't much BB related talk in this thread, from my POV anyway. Hell, barely anyone talked about it general and never really discussed it much, as it seemed that way to me. Sure there may have been interest in the game but it didn't seem that way from the posts that were made and you can only glean as much info from them anyway.
On a few occasions, some BB players just happened to post up in this thread, possibly looking for local comp. Were there any BB players here at the time to field questions? No. I was practically the only guy here that fielded any questions at all. The only other person at the time that fielded some questions was Akureikaze, and he caught some shit from 'new' players about some stuff. I more or less told them there may be local players and as far as scene stuffs, who knew if anything was happening because there was no one else here to really say anything?
Fall 2010 rolls around and all of a sudden this thread gets a surge of people posting up from Hawaii, most of which happened to be BB players. I'm thinking, "Why now all of a sudden? Eh, whatever." There is some discussion on starting up some local scene stuffs with some interested BB players. Yes, it's a start. A late start (from my POV) but a start nonetheless. Fast forward to now, 3 months from when the idea of a scene is first proposed, when a few gatherings have taken place and people barely talk about stuffs related to them.
Here's where some SADLIFE stuffs factor in:
(from my POV anyway)
- unknown local scene presence
Sure there probably were people playing the game, but in what capacity? That and no one seemed to really talk about it much, at the time. People came here looking for other Hawaii BB players and at the time there wasn't really much of a BB presence in this thread until Fall 2010 and even then it still seems somewhat limited. So yeah, where were you guys to field questions and stuff?
- timing of scene startup and player influx
This isn't too bad but why only in 2010 did this finally come about? Was it only then that you guys noticed the DL 808 thread or that you felt that the time was right to focus on possible BB scene stuffs? 2010 seems kinda late but if it was a push for possible expansion, then whatever.
- complaints about scene stuffs, by BB players
Akureikaze caught some flack for a comment to someone in regards to local scene awareness, and this was after he had made some comments about scene stuffs, from his POV. And at the time, there wasn't much of a scene presence here, but if there was a scene presence at all, it was unknown at the time because no one really talked about it.
Mostly, people complained about the lack of scene stuffs. I mean, is it wrong to complain about local scene stuffs when it may appear to them that a local scene doesn't seem to be present, at the time?
Another thing some people complained about is comp and the lack of it. Seeing that there was barely anyone talking about playing BB stuffs at the current time, was 'comp' really available if no one said anything? Considering your options if you were to be in this quandry are to: Find comp, start up a scene to have comp, comp substitution (training mode), you're kinda SOL for comp if no one is really around to say anything related to your game, right?
- interest and support stuffs
Probably the 2 things I made a reference to in regard to scene stuffs overall. From my POV (mainly in regard to this thread) it didn't seem like anyone present at the time really cared for BB stuffs. New people come along and wonder why people aren't playing BB? A reply was to make a reference to interest/support stuffs. If no one is really interested in the game, does anyone really play it? Also, if no one really talks about the game in some capacity, does anyone really care for game?
Let's see. IIRC, the player participation for BB stuffs at one PC Gamerz event was 4 people or something and one prior to that was about 7 people? Now if you were to consider the total amount of people that joined the FB Hawaii BB group page, which currently numbers 16 people (and has a reference to me, lol), would you say that the overall turnout for BB could be better? I asked Shigz one time how many people showed up specifically for BB at one event and he said 2 people did, outside of the 5 people that were playing BB casuals, IIRC. Shujinko posted up that only 7 people played in a BB tourney and that another 6 people couldn't show up due to time issues/availability? I asked Bears another time and he said only 4 people played BB stuffs. If anything, BB players who were there should be mad at the people who didn't show up to play BB, for not 'supporting the scene'.
TBH, I think that there are a few groups of people that play BB. The only thing is that they are all seemingly separate from each other, in regard to activity anyway.
- communication
No one really says much about anything unless asked or something is stated. And even then, barely anyone is present to say something in the first place, on here anyway. There is a level of disconnect when people aren't available for conversation. AFAIK, the group of people that are mainly playing BB at the events are based out of SRK and only as of Fall 2010 did some of you start posting up in here on DL, as with most of the other people during the influx. But after initial posts, only a few people continued to post up (albeit sporadically), while others have yet to post again, and some people have seemingly quit posting altogether. Obviously, that influx of people came here for a reason related to BB stuffs. The amount of people from the time of the influx to the amount of people now that somewhat continue conversation about anything in general is quite lacking, IMO. Maybe people don't really want to talk about local BB stuffs outside of their groups, who knows?
Also, why don't you guys post up more here?
- internet stuffs
Basically, I'm making my posts based on: my observations about stuff, what other people post, what someone has said about stuff/observed, etc. How the post comes across when you read it is another story, cause sarcasm doesn't carry over well in text form. That and the possible 'tone' of the text, unless specified. This also somewhat ties into communication stuffs, but for this instance, it has a separate explanation.
A while back Shigz posted up that, "he quit BB".
Now, after reading that, did he actually quit BB? No further explanation was provided. No one else commented on it, other than myself via a sarcastic response, lol. And there was no response after that. No one really wants to talk about it, so whatever.
I don't care if he says that he quits BB, but someone else could though and even saying that could make one think that the morale for the game in the local scene was low or something. Who knows?
But this is the internet where everything said should be taken at face value cause it's SRS BSNS, right?
'LOL' means nothing and doesn't serve to poke fun at something when it's added to a statement.
As for the SADLIFE stuffs though? Do I mean any of it? Some, mainly cause it's BB, lol. But when you look at this overall and at this moment in time, yeah things are a bit sad, but it's not that bad though it could possibly be better. I could easily call it 'shitty' or even worse, but the SADLIFE meme was easy to run with. I didn't think it would stir up this much ruckus though. Jokes are serious shit on the interwebz.
Seriously though, look over what I have posted and try to tell me that you don't see the problems that I do, from my POV anyway. Can you actually tell me that these problems don't exist in some form with the current state of BB scene stuffs?
This isn't even limited to BB, it affects all ANIMU games that people don't really play much at all because of: interest, support, and communication issues. That and people barely talk about them in the first place, much less actually play them.
FYI, I did make some constructive suggestions though like: narrowing the intended focus of the FB group page to BB stuffs (for a game that I don't play, no less) and say that someone should try to host casual sessions outside of planned gatherings/events to help build up player group stuffs. Hell, I did my best to field questions from new people that wondered about BB stuffs in Hawaii, when there weren't really any BB players here to field them to begin with. Believe it or not, I've tried to stay neutral on the subject, for the most part anyway.
LOL @ the 'any attempt at sparking interest in the genre gets squashed' comment. I don't really see that many people in here trying to start up convos about stuff, considering people barely post up in here and all. As far as me commenting on scene stuffs though, it was limited to BB stuffs since that became a convo topic in this thread, especially considering the sudden influx of people to this thread.
Yeah...
I'm just a lone GG player out in Kona, who plays a game that doesn't really have a scene anymore.
What do I know about scene stuffs? lol.
