  1. no ernest, you missed it. last night, i was playing cvs2 with sean- on the internet.
  2. this is an arbitrary distinction at best. put down your pitchfork, because there's simply no moral high ground in this argument at all. the fact of the matter is, we're all exploiting the legal gray area of most anime not being licensed outside of japan. and if you think any torrent site is not AT LEAST breaking even due to ad revenue and donations, you're insane. if you want your pirated anime, you're going to have to live with the fact that regardless of how you're getting it, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, is making money off of it. could we please not resort to using the i word? it brings down the level of class in here. so i had a pretty long post written out, but i realized that most of it was stuff that aj either already knew or was simply not going to budge on. but, i want to make it clear that i'm not saying bittorrent has no practical application or that torrents are inherently bad; actually, the bittorrent protocol does what it's supposed to very well. the issue is that people of all levels of technical knowledge fail to understand how they're supposed to be used; from the scrubs who don't know that you have to seed to get good download speed, to the dicks who spend money to prevent you from seeding on private trackers- none of them get that torrents are only useful (and superior to everything else) when everyone seeds. because of excessive leeching (in part due to seedboxes not letting people seed), the asinine ratio policies of many trackers, and the generally terrible community of file sharers who take as much as they can while giving as little as possible, i have mostly given up on torrents. while it still baffles me that anyone would consider spending money on a server to seed torrents instead of directly hosting files, i'll just leave the subject alone since i've already gayed up the norcal thread once again for too many pages anyways. (we're still friends, right? )
  3. shrug, fair enough. any publicity is good publicity, as they say. at the same time, you're hardly any better for promoting torrent sites. :P proof? anything from anime publishers, market research groups, anything? plus, let's not get into "donations", and the bandwidth saved from people spending their own money on seedboxes. glad to hear that. private trackers were a plague on the filesharing community for years; the sooner they're gone for good, the better. assuming that's not your maximum download speed, you'd be able to get much better from a dedicated ftp server. and if that is your maximum download speed, chances are you're leeching from a dedicated seeder. how are you reading that? it's most certainly related because it's been one of the biggest problems facing filesharing for quite some time now; it was also one of the biggest reasons private trackers took off in the first place (people being ignorant of the bittorrent protocol's tracking of share ratio, even on public trackers, and adjusting download speed accordingly). and, i've given you the benefit of the doubt that you know a thing or two about the subject. just to make it clear yet again: my distaste for torrents comes from the fact that they are SLOW. the reason for this is twofold; internet scrubs not knowing how to leech and seed properly, and retards buying dedicated servers to transfer files over a protocol designed for low bandwidth connections. the latter will make torrents a bit faster overall, but they could just as easily host their files via ftp which absolutely destroys bittorrent in terms of efficiency (efficiency they can clearly afford since they have a dedicated server). i realize that there are many things that you can only get through torrents; it's not like i NEVER torrent anything EVER, i just prefer a direct download or stream when it's available because it's much faster on average.
  4. youtube takes shit down nico might work once i don't need subs anymore
  5. how am i the "elitist" here? everyone else is calling me a scrub for streaming anime
  6. do you think i don't noscript and adblock animedreaming? lol also, if you think people aren't making money off of torrent trackers, lol. just replace boxtorrents with whatever tracker is considered good these days and i don't see how i haven't made myself clear. private trackers are retarded. they're only better than public ones in the content they provide (which is becoming more of a non-issue with each passing day) and public torrents suck because they take forever to download, even with a good seedbox or two.
  7. there's no problem with people having fast internet, lol. the problem is when people purchase dedicated servers (which nobody's personal internet can compete with, unless you live in sweden or japan) and prevent anyone else from seeding. and for what? a 50:1 ratio on demonoid? the world isn't big enough to contain my laughs. it's almost as if these people never learned how bittorrent works and just want to see a number go up (actually, this describes the general attitude of private trackers very well, lol). goes to show you just how long ago i stopped caring about torrents, lol. if you wanna go private, ftp is where it's at.
  8. i do when i have to. but honestly, i'll take speedyshare/mediafire over the average torrent these days; most public torrents really are that slow, at least for me. as for private trackers, i just laugh at the fact that people purchase dedicated servers for seeding torrents. i mean, think about that for a minute, lol. but in any case, aforementioned retards are the reason private trackers suck these days. unless you can point me to a private tracker that doesn't keep track of share ratio and actually has exclusive content... (and trust me, i had accounts on pretty much every major private tracker back in the day; my distaste for them is not unfounded. even when i had better internet i ran into the same issue of seedboxes monopolizing upload.) and this is what it comes to, really. i'd much rather just wait until a series is finished and get a public torrent from tpb or something than join boxtorrents again for slightly faster download speeds- and then get kicked out for "not sharing".
  9. the problem is that nobody knows how to use torrents. and those who do are on private trackers running seedboxes, which makes it impossible for anyone not seeding through them to seed at all; and thus, entirely defeating the purpose of torrents.
  10. having just watched the vid in your sig ernest, it seems ksk and i share a great deal in common
