Suzaku, any progress on the remaining Overture stories, I know you translated That Man's and Raven's...I think Sin, Dr.P, Izuna, Valentine, Sol, and Ky have one, correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Seeing as this is a Q&A thread, I thought I'd ask a few questions (seeing as I don't have complete access to Overture). I've really wanted to know exactly the circumstances that led to Ky being elected King of Illuriya. I'm sorry but, an IPF Lieutenant (if he was any higher in rank at all, certainly not commissioner of police) doesn't just become an elected official overnight, even when strings are pulled. What's more, how could he maintain relations with a Gear in the public eye? If Suzaku or Tofu could help explain it, I'd appreciate it.

My skill with Nu is only so-so, but there's a few things I need to know about her D moves.... What's the 'window of timing' for jump cancelling D moves, especially jD? I also struggle with finding mid-combo opportunities to use j2D, as they usually wiff, and I have trouble transitioning to it. For example Rift RC-5DD, 6DD, 2DD, jc jDD, jc j2DD, AlterSpace...the up down transition is what gets me.
-
If someone could answer this, please.
-
Now calm down Tofu, besides, didn't Mori claim Daisuke for himself a while ago? Though I'd love to see a retelling of the Crusades either from Young Kliff's or Ky's POV, Overture was just that, just the beginning...we gotta wait.

Closing notes: There's a few things that I've not exactly made clear with my rough translation of Night of Knives...and probably some misinformation occurred as a result...May has nothing immediately to do with the God Series orphanage...or rather, more specifically, the God Series had more to do with Zato-one's kinjuu than anything else...the God Series were called "Sentinels" basically the equivalent of Humans given a "Dark Sentinel" form of the beast that Eddie can generate. I apologize if there's more key information out there that I'm not able to squeeze out of this turnip of a story, but my language comprehension skills only go so far... Furthermore, this apparently WAS the mission in which Millia was ostracized by Zato, however it seems he was very lenient on her afterwards and the idea that Zato-one was caught and put in dimensional prison appears to have been retconned from the immediate story...though it's still possible he was caught by the IPF later on only to meet Testament. The Soshiki compound in which they resided had a lot of things I wasn't able to completely describe in detail...particularly the point at which Zato's kinjuu was harvested for cloning/implantation in soldiers and the part where Millia is to some degree being interrogated by Slayer while immobilized. If anyone who can understand spoken Japanese can go over the Drama CDs again for me and seek corrections on some things or mistakes I did, I'd appreciate it, there's a lot of info there, including pre-revolution Zepp info. Johnny seems to want to "hide" a few things too. This'll be the last "storyline" post translation I'll probably do for a while since I plan on dedicating myself more to answering questions in the Q & A thread. I hope you guys liked it.

Guilty Gear XX Drama CD: Night of Knives Volume 3 Epilogue ~Golden Age~ Millia: It's good for now right? The commander is still sharp as ever. Zato: Do you wish to kill me? Millia: That's not what I mean, but… Zato: From Venom's proposal…That Man's death…the truth behind Catalonia's secret…inefficient subordinates aside, and all the so-called attempts for peace, I can feel a desire to kill from you…I am only interested in that. Millia: Now I see…well…about me…. Zato: You could have refused the mission and cancelled meeting for it. You betrayed the mission. Millia: I'm pretty weak, aren't I? Zato: That's not it. At some point, that way of doing things will get you caught. Millia: What should I do? Zato: The Soshiki won't look for you right away, but for now you can only flee. Millia: So there's no turning back? Am I a traitor to you? Once more…tell me if I'm a traitor… Zato: The Soshiki will be hunting you now…they won't rest. As a Traitor, this time failure results in assassination (he's referring to those hunting Millia). Millia: I wonder…if Venom will be happy…? Zato: Millia, you're still an assassin…no…I no longer need my humanity after this…please don't forget it. Millia: Zato… Zato: We're through…I won't forgive any more… Millia: I understand…but I won't run… (Millia walks away and closes the door.) Millia: (I won't ever run, Zato. Someday I'll come here again. And at that time…things will be put to rest.) Sometime later… A child cries about how itchy she is. Millia tries to calm her down, noting she seems to have pockmarks on her body. She tries to quiet the girl but it doesn't seem to work. Johnny: Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa! That's quite enough, little miss! Millia: Who are you!? (He seems like he's hiding something…) Johnny: (consoling the child), for a kid to cry this much is normal! Here…let me give you something….yes-yes-yes-what-what-what…what do you think of this wet cloth? Hmm? Hahah… (the child begins to laugh with him). You're a good kid. Looks like you're missing your mom here…that's not good… Millia: She's not mine if that's what you think. Johnny: Whoops, excuse me! So in other words she's being taken care of by you…eh? Millia: Yes… Johnny: I'll have to draw a line there…consider the situation for a child, do you really think this place is best? Millia: That's a mean thing to say…I was only trying to help…she was all by herself… Johnny: Hunh!! Now I see…but this place isn't very safe or very good for her. I happen to know a good place a den mother could look after her and get her clothes, though that's not saying much. Millia: Really… Johnny: Well, right now I shouldn't talk…tomorrow I have someone I have to return to, if I don't they'll kill me… Millia: Is that so…? Would you be able to make a side trip? Johnny: Sure. It's fine, for this child I shall bear any burden… Millia: EH..? Johnny: Heh..I was just doing the humanitarian thing…so stuff that happens, no matter what…it won't matter! Millia: (A demon slayer?) Johnny: Heheh…don't be so blue…It's not something to boast about but, Love is one of my primary duties! I take my leave then…have a wonderful day! Millia: If that child receives a home, then it's fine. In the meantime…I didn't really want to get hit up by some boring guy anyway…as for me, as long as everything's fine I'm leaving… Johnny: That settles it then…if I say I got delayed by a woman, everything for a lady, especially my love…will be given in assistance. Millia: You're pretty amusing…who are you? Johnny: Johnny..That…is my name. Narrator: After this, all knowledge of Catalonia, including its king…were lost to general public knowledge. The Head Commander's negotiation mission (Zato's Mission) was successful. Knowledge within the Guild regardi-- Johnny: Hey wait! That's a SE-CR-ET!! Well…while everyone's still happy, why don't we stop there! Narrator: Knowledge of the two of them became a mystery…information regarding the assassins' involvement with the incident, even up to the last was hidden. The true task they had been given had begun to take shape. Zato, Venom, and Millia. The three of them never reunited, as an infinite sadness became their fate. But that is a tale for another time. A white light was gathering itself through their efforts, though they were separate, their hearts had united…indeed, a warmth. Guilty Gear XX Drama CD: Night of Knives…END.

@Suzaku: gotta be faster on answers, dude. Also regarding the Superstition in Bridget's village, Twin boys are considered an ill omen in some upper echelon cultures of nobility, this relates directly to heir apparant and the family inheritance as usually the oldest son inherits the estate, this was problematic for twins who could not confirm birth time in seconds' difference (i.e. who was firstborn). Inversely, it is considered great fortune to give birth to twin girls, so as to double the family dowry when they marry.

There are things outside the realm of Gears that range from Yokai to Backyard Residents to the "Exceptions" as Slayer likes to call them, beings that are outside of Human reckoning that existed before Magic was discovered or put to use. In fact Slayer states he's from another world entirely (I'm guessing the Makai "May-kai", the worlds of angels and demons and other such beings of mythology). Japanese and Chinese Mythology have a huge collective of such mythical beings and creatures, also beings called gods and goddesses or incarnations of them. I'm not precisely sure what Mizuha would be, but Tyr is obviously THE Tyr from norse mythology whose arm got bit off by Fenris, also called Fenrir and wolf of the underworld. As for why the Jinki reacted to Tyr...there's no absolute way of knowing since it's never explained...however we are left with a clue in precisely what the Jinki (Sacred Treasures) are. They are fragments of the OutRage, that serve as Magic amplification devices. Each with it's own element representing a certain "part" of the universe. http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=361729&highlight=Jinki#post361729 Considering that an incarnation of the Aesir reacted to the elements (or rather, vice-versa), it's key to understand that these elements are tied to great forces within nature itself, even natural beings or "guardian forces" (borrowing from FF8 a bit). It's not an absolute answer to your question, but it's a working theory at least.

Expanding further on this girl network, some have been adopted and move on, while certain factions within the infrastructure of the crew have developed, complete with their own representing airships. Though it's never openly stated, these factions back eachother up, though they all treat Johnny with love and respect. The factions observed include an Engineering Faction who usually fixes and services the ships after aerial conflicts, a Martial Arts faction, composed of girls who probably lost to Johnny in a Duel in the past but serve to protect the rest of the crew, being their key combat frontlines, and then finally a Resources faction, whose job it is to maintain food and supplies to the network, serve as contact with Black-market traders and salvagers, and work to help abandoned children and orphans find homes or employment or education. Ky, Bridget, and Millia have been in contact with the network, but only Bridget is an unofficial member.

GGXtra Manga, while official in some capacity is what I like to call 'pseudo-canon', in that some items within it don't jive with the timeline but it's still part of GGs history and lore. It should be noted a lot of things got changed in transition from GGX to GGXX, they weren't lost per se...just changed. As for the Jellyfish, there is no expanded information beyond the core 13 girls (cat included) and Johnny, though it's heavily implied they enjoy a network that ranges from Blacktech salvage, Engineer ships, even import-export black market trade (ideally stolen from rich and given to poor in exchange for supplies for the ships, yes they have smaller ones), the crew is more an organization now with Johnny serving as a defacto-founder. He's the Captain of the original 13...but the other girls were taken in from fallouts, orphanages, warzones, and given love and a new life to make choices with, though many girls end up staying within Johnny's network..

If I ever give anyone fan-based speculation on anything, you'll know it, but just keep in mind this thread is in Q&A Format to avoid opinion and speculation as much as possible.
-
I never said they weren't canon because I believed it, that's not opinion. That's fact. These games won't be used as sources for later installments, that's just what being non-canon means, that's all. Canon in this case just means a core element or character that is recurring and serves as the basis for further installments. Try to keep opinions and bias out of the thread, please, and stick with just questions and information you have that are unquestionable facts and lore, or at least vital info that serves to answer a question.

Soon after Chipp decided to stay in regular contact with Erica, as she now assumed full responsibilities as President under Zepp's watchful eye. Chipp remarked that it was like she had turned in to a Butterfly, Erica replied that he had been her Gale to help her along.
-
Sometime later, a certain member within the UN used his influence on Soshiki to assassinate the president of A Country. It's not known if he contacted Venom or only had ties to Volf, but the order was given for the hit. Volf successfully managed to kidnap Erica with full intensions of luring Chipp in to a trap to kill them both. The battle Chipp had with Volf took to the rafters of the UN Building itself, which eventually caught fire. Realizing saving Erica took priority over defeating his Master's killer, he rescued her from the building and managing to outwit Volf. Volf had no choice but to escape, having failed his mission, but this was short-lived. Zepp caught the UN Member who gave the order, and in retaliation for having failed too many times, Volf was executed on Venom's orders (possibly as a favor to Chipp).

The life of security detail and secret service didn't sit well with Chipp, though he did learn a lot, he was restless and felt he hadn't achieved much in Zepp. So for a while he became a vigilante of sorts. Being a Ninja, he managed to catch wind of a rumor that a certain organization was putting a puppet president in in charge of A Country...outraged that something like this could happen he decided to infiltrate the Oval Office and investigate, or if necessary kill the president. He was surprised to find the President was a young teenage girl by the name of Erica Barthowlamew, and even more surprised to find out Potemkin was assigned as part of her security detail on orders from Zepp! Realizing the rumor wasn't as bad as he'd heard, Erica had nothing to do with the conspiracy, learning more about what was going on here from Potemkin, he decided to stick around in case anyone tried to influence her or use her as a bargaining chip. They soon became fast friends and things calmed down for a while.
-
Chipp's reason for joining the 2nd Recruitment tournament was to scout for anyone suspicious working with the Mafia and Soshiki...though he failed in that regard, he realized he hadn't learned a thing from his Master, so he took to training near the Devil's Forest and within the Japanese dimensional colony. A lot of things happened along the way, such as a girl with wings falling on him from the sky, to meeting his (then) sworn nemesis, the founder of the Soshiki, and even meeting a man like Venom who offered his support should Chipp beat the systems the Mafia controlled (Soshiki and PWAB as well). To do this he realized he would need influence. So he sought to become a President (though he's a bit dense regarding that). Advice from Slayer himself to not seek revenge but seek to do what's right, rang true with Chipp, and having met Potemkin several times before, he sought to learn all he could about helping people.

Noel asked if Chipp got his revenge in Butterfly and Her Gale novel. The novel covers the backstory of how Chipp met Tsuyoshi-shisho and got weaned off Drugs. Since the Mafia had a Hit out on Chipp for embezzling drug funds and supplies and the Soshiki were hunting Tsuyoshi for being an IPF Sleeper, they were both considered fugitives. Tsuyoshi's reason for taking Chipp to the mountains (I assume in A Country), was to hide the both of them till things calmed down. Volf was contracted by the Soshiki along with a group of other Assassins to hunt down Tsuyoshi specifically. It was partially because Chipp went down the mountain to get supplies that they managed to ambush Tsuyoshi. Despite the ambush, Tsuyoshi held his own and was much stronger than even Volf, but they managed to critically wound him, leaving Volf as the only survivor. Volf escaped and swore he would kill Chipp next time. As he died, Tsuyoshi made Chipp promise not to get revenge on the mafia, though Chipp didn't fully grasp it at the time.
