I wont join the debate on system mechanics or what should stay or go or be made easier/harder because frankly the vast majority of regular posters here either aren't mature enough to do it intelligently or have no idea what the are talking about and just pull things out of their ass. That being said, I will touch on this topic because it involves what will arguably be the single most important thing people need to realize about a brand new guilty gear being given to us: We as players need to be opening and welcome to anyone and everyone of all levels who is taking an interest in the game. There are not many players who were around when the GG community was trying to gain some relevance and be an accepted part of the fighting game tournament world. Throughout XX and #R the game and it's players were looked upon as black sheep and largely considered a bunch of scrubs by the majority of players from the bigger games at the time. It wasn't the greatest feeling, but the palyer base for the most part did the smart thing: they didn't worry or care about the people who didn't like the game or like the players. They chose to worry about themselves and enjoy their own game and own community, and anytime new blood showed up taking an interest in guilty gear they were pretty much universally welcomed in because all most of the players really wanted was more people to help the game and it's scene grow. Somewhere along the way the GG playerbase forgot how that all came around, and we started to repeat the same agressive and dickheaded attitudes that we dealt with upon coming into the scene. Instead of trying to help people or ease them over the initial hump of the learning curve the general response to people who cried about the execution or the difficulty was to think of them as lazy scrubs and write them off as a nuisance. This mentality continued on into Blazblues release. GG players chose to forget that we came into the scene with a pretty broken game (XX) and that all those new players were looked down upon as being scrubs who couldnt hang with the real games (Capcom, Namco, etc). The community let the negative and ignorant viewpoint that BB was a dumbed down and weak version of GG bring a new game down. I'm including myself in this story, I said these things and helped contribute to the poor attitude that not only really hurt Blazblue as a franchise getting off the ground in the US, but helped divide the arc-sys player base further and push it deeper into the dead zone of competitive fighting games. I freely admit I was one of those in the wrong, and I am making a point to learn from the mistakes in my attitude towards new players and other games in general, which is exactly what every person who is excited for GGXRD should do as well. I understand the excitement and the desire to discuss all sorts of things from potential gameplay changes to story tidbits, to the new graphics and character designs. Being excited about a new title will bring all these things to the table, and that's not a bad thing. But if there's one thing every player here can start doing, and I mean right this damn minute, it's that you can work on checking your ego's a bit and broadening your viewpoint about the potential that is being offered up by finally getting a brand new guilty gear and not just a version update. It's easy to take the selfish veteran route, and talk about how the game absolutely shouldn't be dumbed down in any way, and that if the new players can't step to the challenge then too bad for them. That kind of toxic viewpoint does nothing good for the game, literally nothing. We have no idea what GGXRD is going to be yet, we've seen a short tralier that was almost entirely for cinematic purposes. We've been given exactly zero confirmation on any gameplay aspects yet, and while we should all be excited and curious about these things, it's of the utmost importance that every player keep an open mind about things that can (and likely will) change that could help grow the game and it's player base. By far the best thing anyone who is a GG fan can do is to get rid of the elitest attitude, to embrace the idea that maybe toning down some execution requirements or making the game a bit more simple or accessible could be the best thing that's ever happened to the franchise in terms for become a relevant competitive game in the west again. It's perfectly find to be a critical thinker and to analyze the potential ramifications of changing things about our favorite game, but do it with an open mind, and don't sit there and immediately shit on any idea that might make the game more appealing to a wider range of players. Many of us thought that way about BB, and we all turned out to be dead wrong as that's a game with a ton of depth and has an excellent foundation behind it. Basically if you feel the need to be a dick or lord your status as an "OG Player" over potential new players because you don't think they deserve a chance to have an easier time learning a new game, then consider that you are in fact one of the biggest parts of the problem, not the new players and certainly not the new game. I'm not directing this at anyone specific nor am I calling out the entire site, this is just a genuine PSA to encourage everyone to be more open minded and to above all be FRIENDLY to the new players that are bound to show up looking to take an interest in the series and looking to learn about it and how to play it. We don't have any information on what to think about gameplay or changes yet, but we do have all the ability to start making this a good community and an inviting place for new players to come be a part of. It only takes one loudmouth prick to deter an entire group of people from taking real interest in a competitive game. Keep that in mind before you get up on your soapbox and tell everyone why anything that isn't as hard or complicated as the GGXX series is garbage. I won't deny that the worry that GG could end up a shell of itself by being overly simplified is a possibilty, anything is possible with a brand new game and new engine. I guess my point to this would be, if that is a concern then it's not all that necessary to vocalize it loudly as interest among a new group is starting to grow. Like I said, critical thinking and intelligent analysis of potential changes and information are a good thing and should be encouraged and convincing people to not speak their mind on that level is not the intent of my post. Fans voicing concern over things that may seem leery or potentially a bad change is a natural thing and sometimes devs even listen (albeit rarely) so it's a valid thing to do as long as it's done the right way. Again my main point here is to keep an open mind. Even if down the road it's discovered something is being changed drastically or something appears overly simplified, that is the time to resist the urge to blow up and cry foul over the situation. Keep an open mind and consider that with every change good, bad, or indifferent things can and will happen. Keeping and open mind and not casting blame towards new or casual players is what i want to see avoided, not good intelligent players voicing what can likely be a valid criticism to a game in development. Like i said, this ins't an indictment of everyone as being elitest assholes, merely a suggestion to consider your viewpoint and attitude and how it might effect the potential growth of arc-sys games. Again i could give some specific examples of system mechanics or gameplay changes that might simplify or change, but in the end make the game even better, but those discussions tend to devolve into trolling and nonsense around here, so I'm keeping my point simple and general to the attitude of the community. At the end of the day, if the game ends up super dumbed down and a worse game we'll be back where we started playing +R instead with a tiny scene, so in essence, keeping an upbeat and friendly attitude to come off as welcoming to new players is a freeroll here. If it all ends up a trainwreck of a game then we won't have to worry about it, but if things turn out well (and I honestly think they will), the player base will be that much better off for keeping an open mind and being a solid friendly community.

I woke up with an hangover and then saw this trailer. The hangover was incinerated instantly. Hot fucking damn it's a good day. -
And suddenly i remember why I don't post here anymore or attempt to actually help people even though I do have the ability and the "resources". You kids have fun.
-
I havent seen the video yet. Figured Anji would have been a ways off since there aren't many players yet. Like i said if someone wants to direct me i'm more than happy to offer up input. I've watched quite a bit of +R Anji and there's lots worth talking about.
-
Lol Zidane was the best resource of Anji info. Who wrote a 30 page guide for slash again? Yur such a homer Mynus :P Tataki if you'd like some Anji clarification shoot me a pm, and a video link. I'll be glad to contribute to the Anji pool of information. I may not be the greatest player to ever pick him up, but after a decade of using him I think I can handle getting you solid information for the series.
-
GG online is unplayable unless you are willing to look at it as purely a joking/casual thing. For any sort of competitive learning or advancing your knowledge of general gameplay or matchups online is beyond worthless.
-
Bridget is a very technical character, but i can't really comment on the execution side of it. Anji is one of the easier characters to handle in the game.
-
Most people will widely agree that I-no requires the highest execution consistently. Her Bnb's require a complex motion for a special move, an FRC, and a jump install, and that's just the beginning. That being said the other characters that are widely considered to have high execution requirements are Venom, Eddie, and Johnny. There's plenty of other examples, but for the most part those are the characters that involve the most demand on you as the player to hit your marks just to play them at a decent level.
-
Jeez John, really? I know i'm old and pretty much don't post but i've never stopped playing. So at least give me my old man credit status for playing this goddamn character since 2K3 would ya :P
-
Some of the most fun I've had is playing on 5 on 5 exhibitions back in the day. So yea, I'm putting my name down!
-
Cool, thanks for the info. The main thing im curious to see is if they are using his new ability to cancel into gatlings on the last possible active frame of move for frame traps. I'm also curious to see how many really try to crank guard gauge with the new moves and blockstrings. It feels like from the known changes that they were really trying to bring his gameplay back to slash somewhat.
-
Mike have you got to fight any Anji's yet. I've seen some good stuff here and there but I feel like there's a lot of new stuff he got that isn't being utilized yet, especially the super late gatling cancels. Then again I don't know if there are many good Anji's left since most of them disappeared towards the end of AC.
-
Thank you sir, been waiting on Anji info for weeks. Sounds like he didn't change much from the loketests which is great. How much guard gauge was 5S cranking? It was originally set to 14 which if they left it is goddamn amazing.
-
Dream Maker - In one of the later loketest they said they were making P Kai much more advantageous on block (+5). Did you happen to notice if it had more oomph to it in blockstrings, i feel like that's a huge change if he kept it.
-
I'd love to know how me saying "P4 has the potential to be as good or better than AC", is a declaration that P4 will be better than Guilty Gear. Also considering I've played arc-sys games for a decade now, I don't know why I can't watch a game flow, read about it's engine and style and not be able to make an appropriate judgement on it's potential. But then again I'm not in Japan so I suppose my opinion is immediately void.
-
I don't think we should view it as a community stacked against the potential players of the game. GG was able to have a strong 6 year run when everyone outside it's core player base "hated the community". The key thing to do, and I know this is difficult, is to tune out and ignore the people who want to bash "anime games". Those are people who have no intention of ever being part of the scene and thus we have no reason to worry about them. All a given player base can do is act respectable, be friendly, and support their game. If other players in other communities want to be douchebags, let them, it's far more productive to spend time and energy on building and promoting the scene for a game you enjoy than it is to try and defend against loudmouths who like to talk shit. This is the same microcosm for MLG, there's no need to get buddy-buddy with the players in other games who think the fighting game community is trash. Instead we can hopefully work with MLG and again, use their rather wide reaching influence on the competitive gaming scene to give P4U more exposure. It's not even about making sure the turnout at MLG specifically is huge, there are plenty of players that will not go to or support MLG no matter what games are there. But the more good press the game gets and the more stream time it gets showing off high level players and an active community can only bode well for the game. Frankly the best part about supporting this petition is that there is very little risk involved. It could help make P4U grow, but it's unlikely to effect the player base already planning on giving it a look. KoF has done terrible at MLG, but it's scene hasn't diminished because of it. Trying to get a new game to blossom into a solid scene means utilizing every opportunity, and MLG certainly qualifies as a good opportunity for getting the game exposure. If it goes bad, everyone will just blame MLG considering their track record among fighting game players, it's highly unlikely P4U would take the bad press for it.
-
Look I see your point, I'm not an MLG fan, I was there at Evo2K5 when they all but took over the whole thing and pissed us all off. But it's not about merging FPS fans with 2D fighter fans. It's about getting a game exposure, and that's exactly what MLG can do. Just because there are a few P4 tourneys at MLG a year doesn't mean the game suddenly is going to be overrun with Halo players, it just means we have another avenue to showcase what we all hope is the next great 2D airdash game. You can't think of this as supporting MLG, you need to look at it as using MLG as another platform to help the game (and by extension: it's community) grow. The idea of different players "tainting" the community is the kind of caustic attitude that will land P4 right in the same spot as BB. Players need to be open to ANYONE gaining an interest in the game. Who cares if FPS players troll it or talk shit about it, when have we ever listened or care about what they have to say anyway? On the other hand being open and welcoming to people will only offer more doors to expand the whole scene. What if there are some FPS or RTS players out there who have a casual interest in 2D fighters but haven't found a game they feel like actually trying. Maybe they are fans of the Persona franchise and give this one a look. I'm not saying it's a definite, or that it's even likely, but we would be very foolish to just omit potential new players because of a perceived stigma about some other gaming community. In short: Yes MLG has a lot of major cons to it, but this isn't about supporting MLG, it's about supporting P4U. The narrow minded views on other communities are exactly what P4U doesn't want.
-
So you have no interest in supporting a game that has the potential to be just as good, if not better, than AC? You're logic continues to astound me, why even bother posting this? Just shut up and don't sign the damn thing if you don't support it. Ahem, onto the actual point of me breaking my rule of not posting when someone does something dumb on DL. Signed. I feel like I need to make amends for not giving BB a fair shake after CS1. I like many other older players didn't give the game ample time to develop into the great title it is now. It's really unfortunate that BB is essentially a dead game stateside, and rarely do fighting game communities get a second chance to thrive, but that's exactly what we are being given with P4U. This game has the potential to have a huge following here, not just from it's Persona franchise tag, but from the fact that it has all the makings of a great Airdash/Anime/Whatever the fuck you want to call it style 2D fighter. There's room for expansion right now. SFxT was a bust, MK is starting to lose steam, and the only other new titles coming out are 3D games. I'm more than willing to step up and take my share of the blame and admit i was wrong about BB as a series. I don't think GG vets looking at the game in a poor light for the first year was the only reason for it coming up short here, but I still feel like we all missed out on a chance to put a great game in the spotlight and have a thriving community full of friendly people and great competition. It's almost certainly too late for Blazblue, but P4U might be the second chance we all need to make something good happen as Arc-sys fans. Keep in mind that Lord-Knight is very correct, signing this petition is only one small step to making good things happen. When the game comes out support it, support your local scene, go to regionals and majors when you can, and most of all keep and open mind and leave the hater mentalities at the door. There's no point in comparing P4U to Blazeblue, Gear, or anything else. It's a new game with a new style, and so far there's no reason to believe it can't be a great competitive game. So yea, consider this my open apology to Blazblue for not doing enough as an arc-sys fan to try and support it.
-
You have got to be kidding me right? Are you actually promoting a system where you can essentially mash slashback regularly with little to no penalty? Good to know your logic is the same as always.

Alright people, UFGT8 has a schedule up, so here's the info i promised. The tournament will start at 9pm Saturday night in the BYOC area. This will be late into the semi-finals pools for the main games so hopefully most everyone should be free at this point. I will have 1 full setup myself, but anyone who can provide an extra will be incredibly helpful to making this work. I am going to start taking signups around 7:30 to give everyone ample time to find me and get registered. This has to start at 9, because we will only have 3-4 hours to get everything done. (if we must i'll finish the tourney in my hotel room). Let me go over all the critical info one more time so everything is crystal clear. - Sign ups will start at 7:30, entry fee is $10, you MUST have a UFGT8 badge to participate. - Tournament will begin at 9pm SHARP. PS2, double elim, no gold/shadow/kliff/justice, winner keeps char, loser may switch. (You know this shindig by now). - If ANYONE participating is still in an official pool I am forbidden from calling them to a match. The odds of this should be low by late saturday, but be prepared that you may have to wait on a match if your opponent is still in an official game. - If you aren't in an official pool, have your ass ready to play. Once I call a match i'm going to give you 3 minutes to check with me and be ready. I will drop DQ's on people, not because I wan't to be a hardass, but because we will be under a strong time constraint. If you are entering this thing, please stay close and be ready to play your matches. That should cover the critical info. I hope to see a lot of you there. PM me with any questions you have, and again if you can provide a setup you have my infinite gratitiude and i'll owe you a drink at the bar. Thanks guys.

I wanted to give everyone an update on this. First and foremost the obvious thing is that if the 360 version is out by UFGT we will be running it on that. Since there's no release date yet this will obviously be up in the air, but assume we will use the updated version if it is available. The next thing to note. Right now the only option for running this is on Sunday, which i know poses problems for everyone including myself as I will almost certainly need to be getting out of town by Noon Sunday. So, I talked to Keits and here are our potential options. 1. Once he has final registration numbers, he may be able to find room for the event on friday or saturday. If this becomes an option it will be the first one I take, however keep in mind this means the schedule is completely up in the air probably until the week leading up to UFGT. 2. I can run the tournament at anytime in the BYOC room, however this has one major caveat, which is that I will not be allowed to call ANYONE to a match who is currently in any Pool at UFGT. Only once a pool is over or that player is completely eliminated can I call them for a match. This means that we will likely have more than few delays in going through the bracket. Now if we can't get a set time to run this friday or saturday night I would still prefer this option over running the tournament on Sunday, which i more than likely will just not be able to do because of my own travel schedule. I'm willing to sit and wait to run matches, but what really counts is knowing if the players themselves are willing to do the same. So, if a time slot opens up friday or saturday we will simply take it and go, no questions asked. However should we be forced to go the BYOC route i would like input on what day you all would prefer: Friday or Saturday. If you are planning on attending and entering, make sure to hit me up and let me know what your preference is. I will do my best to cater to what works best for the players. Thanks for your time, and I'll update this as soon as I can with more info.

I'm going to keep this simple: DON'T FUCK UP THIS OPPORTUNITY SEGA/ASW.

Greetings Dustloop. I wanted to give a quick shout and let everyone know that a side tournament for Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, has been approved by Keits. I'm going to be running this, so here is the low down. PS2 version: Usual tournament rules apply No Ex, Gold, Console Only Characters. 2 out of 3 rounds. Double Elim 10$ entry (However you must be registered for UFGT8 and have a tournament badge to participate). I will have at least a couple setups, but anyone who can provide extra's would be much appreciated. I can't knock anything off the venue fee if you bring one since it is a side tournament, but I will gladly buy you a beer at the bar if you help make this run smoother. I am not certain yet what time the tournament will be run, but right now it would appear early Sunday morning is the most likely time. If that time is going to make it more difficult for people to show up, I need you to pipe up now so I can try to work with Keits to see if we can fit it in a different time slot. If you KNOW you are going to UFGT8 and you would like to enter gear, please pre-reg for me in this thread, it will help me out by getting a preliminary headcount if at all possible. I hope to see a lot of you there.

The BB Community, EVO, Netplay, and the FGC.
Klaige replied to St1ckBuG's topic in BlazBlue Gameplay
I just wanted to drop in and give some props. I really hope all the players serious about building a BB community in the tournament scene up again give this thread a serious read. It's one thing when a player like me who dropped BB after CS1 calls out everyone and tells them to show up if they want to see a change. It's a whole different story when someone in the community steps up to the plate and at least starts trying to draw out the roadmap. If there was anyway to take the first step, this is the way to do it, and I hope the BB players don't just high five one another in this thread, but actually take what St1ckbug has said to heart and really try to get results and tourney attendance up, regardless of the venue. I seriously doubt my rant on SRK was what inspired this thread, but if it in any way ignited a bit of a spark to start this type of movement, i'll feel a helluva lot better about posting it in the first place. If nothing else, I just want to wish you all the best of luck, and hopefully you guys get the results you are looking for as a community.
