Justice7541 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'd say Bang's got a comparatively high learning curve. The way his moves chain together aren't exactly intuitive and his guardpoints are pretty hard to use effectively. He's certainly a lot more difficult to learn to use well than, say, Ragna or Jin. On top of that Bang Install is incredibly difficult to use well, albeit still awesome. Certainly there are characters that are harder to play (Rachel and Carl come to mind) but you're not exactly going to get as much mileage with him at any given level of skill as you are with, say, Nu or Jin.
Elstraim Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'd definitely put Bang around 7. He's not impossibly hard to learn, but isn't noob friendly at all. A lot of his attacks are pretty punishable if blocked or whiffed (2D comes to mind), and he requires a lot of work to actually dish out damage. Being able to read opponents and knowing when to counter, knowing matchups, predicting where opponents will move & and where to toss particular nails, and knowing which combos work particularly well against certain characters all play a fairly big part in mastering Bang. Then there's the well-known Furinkazan, which I've found to be pretty hard to control. However, I've heard (and seen via Youtube) that you'll pretty much become a beast when you've learned to use FRKZ to its full extent. But I'm ages away from doing that. :p Overall, Bang's fairly difficult to wield. But, as with all fighting games, all it takes is motivation and discipline to become a pro. ^^
Dixteel Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 As a noob to fighting game I will say Bang is hard, hard I say. Perhaps better than Carl, but still difficult. I think it might be because his attacks do not excel in damage, range, speed or combo friendliness. Damage is average, or below average, range is short, speed is not particularly fast and even the basic BnB combo is not easy to perform. Some moves such as the command grab are powerful but still they are not easy to pull off. So I think that Bang has quite some potential in dominating the match and dishing out huge damage, but the players have to learn his awkward combo etc which are not new players friendly.
JinSaotome Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I gave him a 3. Bang is pretty easy to learn fundamentally, and his combos/strings aren't really hard to do either. I should've bumped him up to 5 though, as I didn't put FRKZ into account
TheDarkWall Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Well 10 being that hardest bb character and 1 being the easiest I'd probably put him around an 8 personally.
RPGsFTW Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 AtTheGates, do those Dora vs Arakune (long set) still work? I can't get the NicoVideo Redirector to work for it.
demonicpixie6 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I would place him around a 6. Though not too hard to learn his moves and combos, low damage combos and learning to control FRKZ (which I still can't do... sad me) make him a bit more annoying for beginners.
10stars Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Dropped the idea of broadcasting on justin.tv. Majority of the ranked matches are blue when I seem to be playing, and it's a pretty bad framerate broadcasting.

Maho Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 The only problem i see with this setup is that characters with a fast reversal like Ragna can hit you out of the recovery of steel rain if they neutral tech. - I think whatever > 2C > 6D > super is a slightly better setup, as it gets you a mark, more damage, and they get a chance to enter their tech choice before the screen freezes. If i'm not mistaken, from my tests they can only neutral tech for some time after 2C 6D so they are kinda forced into the super, but there is a downside as it leaves you vulnerable to more reversals, for exemple you can block Jin's 623C after 2C into steel rain but can't after 6D.

I've been sticking to 2c into steel rain myself. And since it's so meaty normally ragna and characters with dps that can actually stop it, just sit in it and take the guard crush. I'm sure people will catch on, but yeah characters like ragna can avoid it with a dp. If they forward or backwards tech after 2c > steel rain, they get hit no matter what. They have to neutral tech to even have a chance to block.

Dixteel Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I just did a small experiment. The CPU would be at hardest difficulty in Score Mode, and the first opponent in Score mode is Bang. So I just pick Jin and play against him, and surprisingly...I kicked his ass!!! lol While I can beat CPU Bang with Bang as well, I could only do it after some good practice first. But with Jin, I just pick him without any previous experience with him and kicked hardest CPU's Bang's ass... I think either there is some unbalance issue, or Arksys really should make Bang more user friendly. I don't know. Still though I enjoy playing as Bang.
PlusPlusMinus Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Score Attack always sets CPUs to the hardest difficulty.

Jin doesn't have a single bad matchup (which isn't as balanced as some forumgoers seem to think) and waggle input in a high-paced fighter is shit. So yeah, Jin is one of Bang's worst matchups. Not only does Bang suffer from subpar damage and limited shurikens, but his priority is kinda low on most attacks. And nothing feels worse than whiffing an attack and being Gale'd in the air.
Silmerion Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I gave him a 6. Bang's fundamentals aren't difficult to learn, but learning match-ups and Fuurinkazan can be challenging for him (the former because some of his match-ups are so bad).
Reioumu Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Useless posts about score attack aren't going to help this thread... It's about learning how to use Bang. The computer can't use Bang for shit. They just get random hits.

Not having a single disadvantageous matchup is hardly balanced when most of your matchups are actually to your advantage, especially against the top tiers. Also try to not suck in Bang Install and then tell me he's easy to use.
Nihzlet Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I give Bang a 7. He's nowhere near as hard as Carl(and probably not Rachel either), but it takes some doing to get him going. I will agree that his fundamentals aren't TOO hard to get down. Also, copypasta the FRKZ comment everyone else has made(that it takes a lot of learning to use well).
DaiAndOh Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I have decided upon an 8. I give basic Bang stuff around a 5/6. It's not terribly hard, just some timing and char specific stuff. But decently challenging I feel. FRKZ...yeah, that alone bumps him hugely. Then you have the fact even if you play him very well, some matchups are still
Reioumu Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Another match of me online, just making a Tager player angry since he can't do shit in the air. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRX7ItoCcbY&feature=channel_page And a DORA vs Litchi match XBL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p9Bu8-ZGXQ&feature=channel_page

AtTheGates Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 http://www.a-cho.com/ac/achomov.html 2v2 and a best bout. acho_bb_20090726i.wmv has arakune vs. taokaka, then NEZU BANG vs. some v-13 + lucky (Litchi). what nezu does in the corner after a 2C,2D,j.D, 2B,6C, j.C combo: late airdash back, A shuri. hits rollers. if they don't try to roll out of the corner, the A shuri still somewhat pins them.
