Steez Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Holy crap this is a hard match up. Most of Noels moves require her to get close to him, but getting close to a half decent Tager who knows how to throw out those grabs is a deathwish. Anyone have any strats for this guy?
gsninja Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Aerial assaults are the way I deal with them. Although he can STILL grab you out of the air, approaching Tager from the ground is much more dangerous. I generally try to get close to him from the air, poke through him, then initiate a combo. Then I back off and repeat. It's not foolproof, but it's not half-bad, at least from my experience. Better than running into him head on.

Yeah, the bastard is hard to fight... its like a free command grab for him... T_T my strategy would be to IAD C him and pressure the guy, not letting him break free. I always spam my projectiles when dealing with the guy. Be careful of his projectile... It's really painful >_< also avoid some none chaining strings since if ever he decides to mash that buster, you're as good as slammed XD
Steez Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Yeah I was trying to fight him by sticking to the air, and only coming down when I pull a 2D out, then drive him. Problem with that is that you leave yourself open if he blocks the drive, then there comes that half life grab. Crap, even a Hell mode Tager put some hair on my chest. I didn't even have to go online to encounter one that I had trouble with.

Each blocked drive leaves you vulnerable to his invul crap or worse..... DRIVER!!!!
gsninja Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Yeah, it's better to stick to non-Drive combos against Tager unless you're sure you're gonna hit him with one. Personally, I like to 3C him when I get the opportunity and start combo'ing off of that.
Alphakami Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 This is my favorite matchup, playing Jais and MikeZ's Tager a good bit, however, those strats will be heavily diminished with any lag whatsoever. Keep it simple and use tons of A's. Jump A, 5A in varied rhythm, it can stop damn near everything, and pressure the shit out of his barrier and libra. 5A 6A 6C xx whatever. If you finish air combo in revolver blast, you can run behind him and use all sorts of mixup tactics. You can easily play keep away with bee stings or be agressive with A's. Of course, once you fuck up, you're dead, twice if you're lucky. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_XHDq3QMYk
Gambit Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Agreed. 3C may be a good combo starter but he spams that invul swipe that can hit you while dodging your 3C at the same time. I start my jump attacks with a j.c and continuing it with A afterwards (While on the air) once on the ground, I'll do a an ABC and jump back up again. its really hard to fight him on the ground >_<
Alphakami Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 ABC jump is great generally, but if the B is instant blocked, the C gets backdashed to to tager driver, I use that when they are putting up barrier and it's usually safe then.
ShinobiBrown Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_XHDq3QMYk W.O.W What is the ratio for this match up anyway? I, too, have problems with Tager. However, I assume that's simply because I really don't know how to go about the fight. My execution is far from top tier so if I fuck up, I'm screwed.
Ky_Kiske Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Use a dash jump with C and then hit Down+C and then just keep dashing back and repeating. This takes a lot of luck too because he will every now and then grab u and toss you, the main strategy is to make sure its not his Distortion (that sucker takes 1/2 your life). Be patient and try to hit him with Noel's Distortion (the one done in the air, forgot its name). It'll hit most of the time and even if it misses, the missile at the end will almost always hurt him. It takes a while, but on the bright side, it's really good at teaching you how to NOT rely too much Noel's drive (against Tager, use it maybe once or twice a match, if even, 99% time Tager will be able to counter you with a throw).
Hellmonkey Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Have to adjust to how the Tager plays. If he plays dangerously so you can hit with 3c you can take 5k+ easily so abuse that. If not, try not to get magnetised and watch for his backdash. Obviously don't get hit by his projectile either.
Kirbeh Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Tager match ups are pretty difficult for Noels but you just need your whits about you. I like using [in somehow] 5A 5B 5C j.a j.a j.b 5B 5B 5C 236236D if I can't get a 3C or grab in. Or 5A 5B 5C j.a j.a j.b 5B 5B 6B 3C 22C etc Its easy to combo because he is exbawkz hueg but... Don't mess up your combos... Tagers are basically turning their sticks while you combo like a jack-in-a-box, one mistake and you eat shit :/
Kirbeh Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Btw, how the hell did he buffer that 720 at the end....
andianqz Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I find optic blast to be useful here. I play fairly defensively and just mix up optic blasts until he does his anti projectile swipe. I run in and poke low when he does that and it seems to be fairly effective an opening. Switching up down high works well. You can catch him off guard if you poke low and then do 2D for a counterhit (since usually he tries to poke you low or is blocking low). But don't do it 2x in a row or anything.. switch to 3C or 2C and just get out. Being predictable is going to get you punished.
Gambit Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Since noel has empty blockstrings when it comes to tager (who'll end up digging a hole with her), what's the best way to create strings to find an opening? I tried the overhead mixup thingy, but the guy end up doing that blasted command grab whenever I do... Its either he's good or the overhead is slow. >_<
Kirbeh Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 j.a > etc after 5C will created longer blockstings id he does not use his barrier
andianqz Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I wish I had an optic blast... BEHOLD optic barrel i mean?
ShinobiBrown Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Optic Blast > Optic Barrel BEHOLD! I seriously need to tighten my execution because my fuck ups VS Tager are really killing me. :[
Kirbeh Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 BEHOLD! OPTIC BLAST! Yeah, small holes get you GAIGANTEEEEK'd. Its a pain...
Aya_Fentara Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 To answer that earlier question, the match-up is ironically 60-40 in Noel's favor. O_o I'm not exactly sure how, but I guess if he doesn't get a free command grab, it is. Yeah, I guess playing the poking game is probably the best option.
Grindfox Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Posting this here since its a Tager specific combo http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=399520&postcount=735
dragontamer Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Does anyone have a video of a good Noel beating a decent Tager? On youtube, I keep finding MikeZ wreak various Noel players...
