thegame4ever Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I come here asking for tips. I don't know where to start, so just try to follow along here. I've been a DualShock monkey for quite some time. After going to a number of local GG tourneys, I realized that most people played on stick. Long story short, I started chatting it up with the players, and they motivated me, along with the lurking on this board, to invest in a stick. Picked up a HRAP2SA and played with it for a good two weeks. It's been a good year since those events took place. Between then and the release of BB, the stick's been gathering dust under my bed. This is mostly due to the fact that I am terrible on stick. But, I decided to give it another shot, using BB as the catalyst. My problems stood the same. The buttons are freakin' fantastic in terms of helping me link stuff that are relatively impossible for me to do on a pad. The stick, itself, on the other hand, has been boning me. Seriously. I consider myself lucky if a dash comes out when I want it to, let alone specials and the like. I guess this is where my question starts. What kind of mindset do I need to control my left hand with? When I play in arcades, I tend to ride the circular rails with the stick. Doing this on the HRAP square gate seriously fudges with me when it comes to simple stuff like IADs and 236's. Hell, there are times when I try to dash in practice mode, and the input display says I only hit 6 once. It's beginning to get really frustrating, especially when I take Noel online and get into a clutch, dying to get a distortion out only to find that the resulting input was a whiffed 6D. Am I using the stick wrong? I've been using this thing since BB's release and I've seen very little improvement since then. Help, Dustloop! Help me! Your problem is you're not going back to neutral (5) so another 6 can be picked up, you're just sticking at 6. And you cannot be good with stick in a day. You have to practice, practice, practice. Throw that pad, and play stick, even if you get beaten. Just keep playing, and hitting training mode everyday, and there should be a gradual improvement. It takes time, but it's definitely worth it. Take little steps before you move to big ones. Try dashing, IAD, shoryuken hadouken motions etc. Then practice combos in training bit-by-bit. You just have to really focus on it. And change your grip if this one does not fit you. Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsME37GrqjY Good luck, master that stick and start kicking major ass (My real ass-kicking only came after I knew stick well ).
FleetingPenguin Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I want to play GGAC on my PS2 but also MvC2 and BB on the xbox 360. Is it better to get a ps2 stick and a converter for the 360, or a 360 stick and a converter for the ps2? Does using a converter add any lag or otherwise negatively affect gameplay?
EclipsingBinary Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 There does not exist a lagless converter either for PS2 -> 360 or 360 -> PS2. EDIT: I just saw this on SRK Max Shooter by Mayflash: This is the best option for using a custom stick on your 360. It works great with Sony controllers. Be certain that you can tell it apart from the XFPS because eBay sellers often label these incorrectly. Unfortunately it has issues with the HRAP 2. Compatible with: PS1 Digital, PS1 DS, PS2 DS, HRAP 1, SFAC 3.5V, SFAC Pad, Saturn PS2 pad, Namco PS1 Incompatible with: HRAP 2, SFAC 8V Review: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=189236
FleetingPenguin Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 It costs like $50 and lags about a frame, so best to get 2 cheap sticks instead. So, what's a good, reliable, cheap PS2 stick? I've been looking at a Hori Fighting stick 2, but I can only find them used. EDIT: Playasia sells the Mayflash Universal Fighting Stick at $30. Is this a serviceable stick? No lag or dropped inputs?
GenesisDC Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I bought a modded Mayflash and it's ok. No dropped inputs, no lag. Havent tried it with stock parts but I heard very bad things. Only problem I'm having with mine is that the guy who modded it did a pretty shit job at soldering and used some old ass buttons from a Tekken 5 DR machine that must have been pressed a million times before I got it and a button's already dead after having it 2 months. Joystick was pretty fucked too, isnt screwed in good and for some reason after fixing it I get dropped inputs once I put the gate back on. Remember to always mod your own stick. PCB's common ground too.
superclack Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 How can I input upward motions on a stick without moving my entire arm? I've been trying to push the stick with the back of my ring finger for up motions, but the accuracy rate on diagonals is not good. Moving my entire arm to control the stick seems like it'd be slow an inefficient. Edit: Also how do you tell if a stick lags on something precise like 1 frame? Is there a way to find out?
Devdan Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I don't know where else to ask about this, so I'll ask here. Suddenly the left on my HRAP3 is double registering...or something. I was just playing as Carl, and suddenly I could only do his little hop when I was trying to walk. Any idea what's causing this, and if I can fix it?

Devdan Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Come on, there are people here making arcade sticks, someone must be able to help me out here. I'd like to get back to being able to play BB as soon as possible. [edit] Erm...problem seems to have fixed itself! Nevermind.
sum1 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Since everyone here seems to know their modding skills really well I would like to know: Where can I make custom made covers for my stick? I am currently ordering an HRAP3SA and would like to change the dull white cover into something more fitting.

sum1 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 That's an amazing site you have there thanks a lot
Nobus3r1 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I hope this is the right place to post this. So I started with a Hori PS3 Fighting Stick. I have more or less followed these directions (except I'm using Seimitsu parts not Sanwa parts). I have run into a bit of an issue with the stick I'm using (Seimitsu LS-32-01). Now as you all can see from the picture in the directions and the picture of the Seimitsu stick the colors on the respective wiring harnesses aren't the same. The Sanwa goes from top to bottom red, orange, yellow, green and black. While the Seimitsu goes yellow, red, black, green and orange. So my questions are as follows: 1) Should as based on the directions above the wiring harness orient the same way regardless of whether it's the Sanwa or Seimitsu? 2) Which colored wires in the Seimitsu are what (up, down, left, right, ground) and where should they be soldered? Thanks.
ilikeusingdizzy Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 so i have a tekken 5 joystick,is it any good?it feels like its got 8 clicky edges when i move the stick, anyway,im having trouble doing dps.so does anyone know if the stick sucks?or am i just holding the stick wrong? im betting on the ladder but i guess im also curious about the quality of stick the game came with.
Aedesyr Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I was thinking about getting an hori fighting stick(the blazblue one) for the xbox 360. It'll cost me around 110/120$. Is it a good joystick? If it's not, what do you suggest me to buy?
protomanSTi Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Probably not since it's a soldered PCB and Hori buttons. You can get the TE stick for $119 shipped right now via Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874104069 It's probably the easiest to mod stick out the box, and even if you don't it's still all Sanwa parts from the start anyways.
Aedesyr Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 thanks. i wasn't planning on modding it tho, just wanted a decent fighting stick. Using the 360 controller it's just...painful when it comes to fighters.
sum1 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 OK guys I recently received my HRAP3 SA. The button layout is that of the old cabinets (the oval type) compared to the newer cabinets (Two buttons down, four buttons form a square and a bit up. Like the TE layout) Now my question is: Will the button layout affect 1 frame combo timings? Since the button placement is different that of current cabinets in Japan, and knowing where the buttons are is vital for the timing. Should I exchange this stick for a TE? Or keep it since it won't affect? Hopefully I am going to Japan this summer and would really appreciate not making a fool out of myself in the game centers. Thanks (I apologize in advance if this question is stupid)
Skurai Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 My hands aren't ment for anything but the PS2 controller and the PSP. Everything else is either too small, too big or too joysticky. Though, I must admit, I won't be able to do alot of moves without it, I don't think I can ever do the joystick.
EiseneFaust Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I currently have an HRAP1 and I wanna play it on PS3. What's a good adapter for using my PS2 stick on my PS3? It would be awesome if it worked for my PC and xbox as well... but only really need one for ps3. Generally any converter that does PS2-USB will work on a PS3 and a PC. For some reason no dice for xbox though. Don't know why. My Super Joybox Pro 2 works for PS2 -> PS3 OMG!!!! http://www.amazon.com/PS2-Controller-Adaptor-Sony-PS3/dp/B000PS1TG6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1255244394&sr=8-2 FAILED!: laggy http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-6m-49-en-15-super+joy+box+3+pro-70-qc2.html FAILED!: didn't even recognize the stick when it was plugged in http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-6m-49-en-15-super+dual+box+pro-70-qc3.html FAILED!: if plugged it in to adapter after adapter was in every input was on semi-auto. directional input doesn't work. If convert it to dance mat pad then directions work as button inputs. i.e. I can press up to taunt! I know that super dual box pro 1 work and apparently super joybox 2 also works... HOWEVER, I can't find any converter that I can buy currently, meaning it's not discontinued, to help me out... Does anyone have any further information on what current adapters work without lag?
