EDIT: I have no idea what that Kensou is doing... Why is he playing like a terrible Yang? Why didn't he punish anything besides one DP and it was with a sweep? Why is he being so passive? WHY AM I QUESTIONING A BAD PLAYER'S TACTICS SO MUCH? *sigh* Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.

It has very little characters compared to other KoFs. o.o

I really don't mind that the roster in XIII is average compared to other KoF installments. What's nice about KoF is that there's so many characters throughout the series that it's hard to be left without a main for an installment.

I started off in XI and grew a liking to Ash. In order to help myself get better at KoF, I had to play an installment that was supported by GGPO or something so that I could play against a wider variety of people. Since Ash wasn't in any KoF before 2K3, I had to find a new main, so I settled on Kyo and tried out a variety of other characters to team him up with in '98. When I went to 2K2, I had Kyo, Iori, Mature, Athena, and Terry to work with because I messed with all of them in '98 and I liked them.

Now when XIII first hit consoles, I instantly put Ash and Kyo on my team, but I had a hard time settling on a third because there were so many damn characters I liked at this point! Lol. Having this many characters that are easy to become fond of in the KoF series really helps transitions to installments where your favorite character is absent. Ash may no longer be around beyond XIII and Dream Match installments now, but I can always main Kyo. If there comes a time where Kyo isn't in the roster (god forbid, there'd be shit storms everywhere), I'll just main one of the many other characters I like to play.

That's true - I think I've settled on Mature, Vice, and Either Athena or Leona. To be honest I've never played a grappler or a charge character. So this is kinda refreshing.

If I were you, I'd go with Athena. I mean I love Leona and I'm enough of an idiot to keep trying to learn her, but you'd be much better off starting with Athena just for the sake of getting used to KoF. Leona is a really hard character for someone to start with, let alone pick up later on down the road.

When you have some experience and you feel more comfortable with everything in the game, definitely check out Leona. She's not only a deceptively good low tier character, but playing her also really helps out your execution in the long run since she's so demanding on it.

I say stick to your guns. Your Ash and Mature were good, not to mention they both do well as a battery or a meter burner. Your Joe was random as all hell, your Saiki is a little bit passive, and your Kula is WAAAAAAY too reckless. If anything, I'd say pick your third out of those three and focus on them. I can't tell you who to play, so just roll with whoever you like.

On the other hand, I can tell you to work on pressure a bit. I couldn't keep any of my pressure going because I got nervous for some reason, but I was only able to really beat your pressure as much as I did because you can't maintain pressure as well as you should be able to with your team. You got the idea with Mature pressure, but work on pressuring with Ash and (whoever you stick with). Believe it or not, Ash can actually pressure decently, despite how zoning oriented he is.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I could've just used a blowback on you so many times during our matches....god dammit!

I was also trying to make a Mid-Boss colored Saiki but I haven't got it quite right. Same goes for the Luigi Ash I was trying to do, but a lack of good greens kind of killed that idea. Speaking of which the lack of a good custom green or brown in color edit saddens me.

I do like that all green 94' costume Kyo you had too.

Of course they do. KoFXIII is a game with very little characters and it doesn't offer what every fan of the series wants. Nothing wrong with them wanting their favorite to be in it. That alone might make them enjoy the game more, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Yuri is my favorite and she is in it, so I am happy. But, I totally understand the other fans who were left out without their favorites, it really sucks for them and I feel bad for them.

i am pointing out how meaningless it is for people to state who their favorite is. i never said there was anything wrong with people wanting their favorite, but if everyone sat down and posted "BTW I JUST WANT <x>" we wouldnt have a thread, we'd have a list of all kof characters. which is actually what usually happens with threads like these pre-release, which makes them not worth reading. Everyone knows everyone has preferred characters out of the 100+ that werent included in the 30ish in kof13. people are actually talking about things now post-release which is nice.

Actually, it is more meaningless that you feel like you have to keep pointing out and repeating that you don't like people posting about their favorites. I'd rather have people not have posts that simply talk about what other people are talking about, if that makes any sense.

Billy Kane: while he isn't flash is has solid foundation of approaching people and many anti air options. His super is very versatile, It chips, combos, and can be use as reversal(EX version). (He'll generally be my battery)

Takuma: Still learning him but I'm very comfortable with him. I like 623Hk shenanigans.

I actually feel the more characters there are in an ESTABLISHED series, the more likely i am to stick with what i know.

What i know is Terry, King and Vanessa.... with no Vanessa i HAVE to learn someone now, Kim, Joe, Robert, K', Athena, Yuri, Ryo, Takuma, Kyo, Iori, IORI, Hwa, Andy etc.......

I could go on and on for potentials in my team lol. But if it was Vanessa, BOOM we're done.

That's true. This is my first KoF that I actually own for myself and not playing just to mess around- any advice or help is appreciated.

I can't seem ti time Mature's slices properly. Sometimes I got it down, sometimes I don't. Any tips?

So guys I need help with this game, I really want to get into it but I can't seem to find characters who fit my style. I play Noel and in UMvC3 I run Zero/Vergil/Strider ... any suggestions to fit my style or just characters good for beginners in general ?
