Vulcan422 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 There aren't really any Noel-like characters in Ultimate. If you want somebody who is fast with good mixup, use Wesker. He's, like, 100x more broken than CS2 Noel in terms of damage and mixup potential, and 1000x easier.
Skye Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I think I know what you mean, but could you give a specific example? j.hp > hp > 6lp-lp > etc j.hp > hp from what I've experienced cannot be buffered, you have to press it on command. hp > 6lp must be buffered, again, from what I've experienced cannot be confirmed. 6lp-lp just won't connect at random. I don't mind one or the other, but both whenever the game wants? It drops/ignores inputs on the fly and don't get me started on how it detects commands. Day one ramblings, but everyone in my scene have played for longer and agree with me. *shrug*

To add on to what others are saying about the buffer system: It is different than most other games, in fact; the buffer system is sensetive and moving too fast will get you something else. I found myself trying to high jump toward the opponent and trying to do a dive cutter and ended up with V-Slasher... if you're having issues with DM's coming out when your trying to follow up with another super move, move a little slower. There is a decent window when performing combos compaired to other fighters; heavy attacks give you a good window to not move your directional inputs as fast as possible if your hitting the opponent with a super move (this applies to linking most normals as well). All of this can also be included for Juggle combos as well, when the opponent is in a Juggle state, you have a really good amount of time to follow up a super move with another super move (you are probably in HD Mode if this is the case) without having to move your stick (or pad) really fast to get it going. This requires a lot of practice so keep working on it until you've figured out the timing on buffering. Edited November 30, 2011 by Shinsyn

Also, to whoever was asking about Mature's rekkas (noticed, forgot to quote, whatever), just play around with the input timing. It's hard to describe, but all I can really say is it's slower than it looks like it should be (same advice if anyone is struggling with Duo Lon rekkas, btw). You might be able to do them more easily if you hold down the button instead of just tapping it, but I'm not sure if XIII still has the input autorepeat for specials/DMs like other KOFs and I'm used to using Mature enough in the past to just do her rekkas normally. But yeah, like Shinsyn said, you usually have a good amount of time to do inputs, so try slowing down a bit if you're having troubles (unless the problem is going too slowly *laughs* ).

I'm very disappointed that, between the lag I usually get between input and display (bad enough a problem for me in BlazBlue, fixable with some investments), and the unforgiving input and difficulty...I just can't stream myself playing this game. Since when is there even a console tier list? i am pointing out how meaningless it is for people to state who their favorite is. i never said there was anything wrong with people wanting their favorite, but if everyone sat down and posted "BTW I JUST WANT <x>" we wouldnt have a thread, we'd have a list of all kof characters. which is actually what usually happens with threads like these pre-release, which makes them not worth reading. Everyone knows everyone has preferred characters out of the 100+ that werent included in the 30ish in kof13. people are actually talking about things now post-release which is nice. I'm actually playing Leona in my profile team I like her , I'm still little sad the Earing bomb is really slow now and with evasive rolls seems very worthless even as pressure maybe if a drive cancel. I'm sure there are other moves that I could spend meter on. The whole db~ub HP to ub~f HK is really hard for me right now...Never had to charge like that with little room for error.

SolxBaiken Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Her bombs are a legit spacing tool, they are far too slow to be used in practical pressure but know when to alternate the strengths and where can make it annoying to get in on Leona. Also you can buffer any of her charge moves to follow up after it, so you can follow a toss with her running slash ([4]6+K) which is a relatively safe move especially if you follow immediately afterwords, or you can put some "lag" in between the toss and the slash, either is good for punishing rolls. Or if you feel the opponent is going to jump in on you (provided they avoid the toss as you can't block mid-air), you can opt for either the ball ([4]6+P) or the crescent slash ([2]8+K) Honestly I feel like spending meter for EX tosses are a complete waste when all of her other moves are much better in EX and the bombs are a fine enough tool on their own. EX crescent extends the range and gives you some invul frames. EX ball has a bigger hitbox and is fast (for this move anyway), EX cross (j213+PP) should be done close to the ground as it provides a projectile that stays there for a brief time and you will jump away in safety, plus if it connects you can dash to follow it up with a combo (my personal favorite being cl.HK>HK>6LK>j214+LP). And then of course her Supers, particularly V-Slash (j2363214+P) is worth the meter (especially EX) for punishing jumps or catching your opponent off guard as they try to anti-air you. Leona is all around awesome, you just have to get used to reading the situation, and once I master Drive Cancels with charge moves, she'll be even more beast~<3

Perhaps with [4]6k? also after dec 10 you should come over for some kof or we should at least try online some in the previous versions the start up was always slow but the initial toss was faster, I plan on it! working on the new Vice as well I miss her 214 LK|HK move and now they gave her one of orochi yashiro's moves (very similar arch and distance) its a cool move but I guess if they let her keep her multi kick move she would be OP.

Also the speed of the toss isn't that bad, and like I said wasting meter on the EX ver just to have a faster and stronger one is a waste compared to the other EX moves. Toss is fine, you'll just have to do some adjusting [granted this is the first and only KoF I actually bothered to touch Leona, freaking hate her...but I'm finding out that in XIII all the characters I've hated for years are becoming my strongest orz)

I can't get the timing to make it a drive cancel for the previous though.
