25:15... this is the greatest combo I have ever seen. Why doesn't the boss put this out at gety, this is amazing. Never have to worry about it getting outdated either :3

I fukken love scrubbing up in Hnk :3

also FKKKKKKKKKK DAT JAGI ww

edit: can anyone explain exactly why the boss doens't put HnK back up? You'd think it'd make a bit more sense than when he put up KOF 11 again for a short period of time

What is Nesica? How does it work exactly?

Some idiotic idea for Japanese arcades that won't work elsewhere.

Look at here: http://www.diginfo.tv/2010/10/13/10-0171-r-en.php

and

here: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/NESiCAxLive (assuming you understand calligraphy)

If you don't get it still someone else will explain it. I'm too tired for that.

Get salty, stay that way.

Hey guys, are we doing anything around Christmas time?

Drinking/Dinner/Tourney, whatever? That'd be fun.

No.

From what I understand it is like so:

The nesica system is a device that connects to an internet hub, somewhere in japan. In order to use the nesica system, you must be in japan, or have a japan IP address (not sure if it bans you if you don't or something). It also requires a fiber-optic cable as compared to normal, not impossible but less common around here. After that, the nesica system has an interesting way of working.

It downloads the game, instead of merely buying a board with the game on it. This means you actually have to have the internet connection, otherwise you won't even get the game. So no easy workarounds for getting the game on a dummy network. After that, the game charges 50 cents or yen or something every time the game is played. This is to counter-balance the fact that you just download the game (source for that? not 100% sure the game is "free" when just downloading it). So even if the boss made it 75 cents, the profits would be much lower than a 50 cent bbcs1. That doesn't mean the nesica is free though, you would still have to buy the device to begin with. The only saving grace would be that if there were more games, you could save on them that way, although this doesn't change the steep cost for us.

Most of these problems are avoided if you are in japan, and it almost seems like a good idea. Speculation says that if it is connecting to the internet or some other device(s), it could lag or slow down the framerate at inopportune moments, causing frustration. Somebody said they had a bug where every time they won the machine had to be restarted? (On the plus side the game restarts really fast due to it's storage nature, like 30 seconds and good to go again).

In terms of what nice things it does, it can save your info and PSR and what not, matchups and stuff. It also allows download content in an arcade setting, which means possible patches and other goodies (colours or announcers, etc). These are good intentions, but we are not in japan, and we may not even be able to get these things anyways.

These are my understandings of the nesica system, if I have omitted any information or erred in any way, feel free to correct me because I am by no means an expert, this is just what I've seen from others' accounts.

No your correct except you also have to buy a nesica server which downloads the game over the net from japan for your nesica clients to play.

If you add in the costs for the nesica router + system, it barely lower than what a standard new game board costs iirc.

coupled with the fact that it needs internet + 33% charge per game + game download, its really bad for the arcade owner at first, but gets good in the long run, IF more and more games are added on and nesica becomes a standard

NESICA is pretty cool if you ignore the business model and the way it downloads a game per play instead of storing it.

It looks like all the games are just right there, at any cab (stored either on the cab, on the server, or wherever), and because of its online functionality it makes updated games and new games more easily available than if you had to buy a whole new board and replace it in the cab. Like, if all of lovegety's cabs had every single game that lovegety has and all you have to do is pick a cab and play your game.

Pay per play is usually 100¥ in Japan (1.21$ CAD), so if every cab has almost every game available on Taito's servers, then that means every single cab will be used; instead of old-style cabs, that were dedicated to a single game, that would be unused if the game on it was unpopular.

Sounds like an improvement to me. It's just that it only seems to work in Japan. lol

There just isn't enough demand in North America to import this on a large scale. Arcades are dying here because of consoles (and PCs?), so it would just be a big disaster if they tried to bring it over here through local distributors.

The only way I think they'd be able to profit from bringing the NESiCA system over is if they partnered with individual arcade owners to set up a system in specific locations where arcades get a regular gathering of people, like Lovegety.

Even then it's still probably pretty iffy since the arcade scenes aren't as large here as they are in Japan, but maybe with the whole "play any game on any cab" system it'll probably work out since we could potentially be running like 3-5 BBCS cabs at Lovegety at a time. lol

Of course, that's being really optimistic and assumes everything works out and Lovegety gets more than a single NESiCA cab.

X-Men arcade is out for XBL and PSN. Anybody picking this game out?

Nostalgic feelings are the most expensive ones.

Yeah it's out. I wouldn't mind having it in my collection. $10 for PSN and equivalent price for XBL.

call me when they get the simpsons arcade game

Except the boss has to set which game is on which cab i believe, its not like the person playing puts in money and picks whatever they want to play. so fundamentally the problem of "nobody wants to play this game" still exists, just that its easier for the boss to switch to another game now if he decides to.

If Konami was able to port the X-Men game, it's totally possible that the Simpson's game will be released. Personally, I'd love to see the old Bucky O'Hare arcade game.

That's still pretty good though. He can just fill it with popular games that people will play, then that cab will almost always be used.

The problem with nesica is the initial costs to it. That and who will play what. An additional problem is the psr thing, it stratifies players. People don't like to be stratified as such people won't be challenging the top players to get better. Because when they lose 239485 times to them, it gets recorded and their nesica card says that they suck at [insert game].

stunedge spoke about that in his BB general thread.

FUCK YES.

I think the underlying problem with nesica is that you're all scrubs and archling is the man.

Naw, you the man. No homo.

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out. What kind of Hori sticks are sold at Pacific Mall? I live in Brampton and I haven't found the time to go there in a while, but I'm interested in getting a HRAP V3 SA. Anyone know if it's at Pacific Mall or will I have to order online?

Thanks in advance. =)

I personally haven't been there recently, but I do remember that I wanted the SA but nobody had it, only the normal HRAP3. I guess you can go check it out, but otherwise ordering online would be the way to go, which is what I did.

Order online essentially is the best bet. Odds are there maybe a few of them.

edit: oops i realized i didn't finish my train of thought

anyways, go check online stores but most importantly check SRK's trading outlet and check it often. It usually leads to some pretty great deals for stuff.
