Lou_Cypher Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Hmmm, I lost to a Dr. P player while I was playing online. Then again, I kinda suck at the game so that proves nothing. He always likes to run away and spam his spells, especially the one where something falls on top of your head.

Lou_Cypher Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 That's actually just a regular move. Costs no tension. Wait wha-? Maybe I should just stop rushing everything....
purify Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I guess that's why he got nerfed lolz I think the CPU got tougher. Then again they raped me and my friend before too :x This game is crazy! I really think we need a thread, subforum or something to discuss strategy/characters. There's literally nowhere on the internet for us to do that right now. I guess Aksys' forums might be an option?
Blade Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I second the notion for a subforum. This game has combos...I must SEE THEM.
sweetvids Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Buy the game then. It's 200$ + 60$ for the system. Chump change. :psyduck: :psyduck: :psyduck: :psyduck:
Zazz Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I second the notion for a subforum. This game has combos...I must SEE THEM. just watch some match vids on nico nico man. the silliest most crazy combos are usually SLAYER-esque juggles by Izuna ok i beat survival I and II with Sol & Ky. good thing to know that they can performed on easy and still get the achievement and i just noticed this, but Ky's Lock-on Back+Attack is his f.P and f.K attacks.
Zazz Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 http://www.destructoid.com/destructoid-review-guilty-gear-2-overture-107887.phtml :8/:
Blade Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 I was expecting that, since it's a Fighting RTS hybrid. By the way the Organ is "split" between players in Splitscreen multiplayer so that issue isn't so bad there, it's the online sessions that concern me. And this guy...well, let's just say too many people were expecting another 2D fighter and he was one of them so he's putting too much emphasis on combos and not enough of the "wide combat" elements. That and...DAMN, USE TRAINING MODE YA IDJIT!
Zazz Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 well the organ doesn't pause online so not to interrupt others playing the game, so people have to use it, well, i dunno, STRATEGICALLY *gasp* and if people say the combo system is restrictive . . . they never saw any combo vids or even noticed the roman cancel button (there's no time not to use it since you'll always have some meter)
Blade Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Common sense would tell you to use your Organ when surrounded by allies...or at least in front of your Master Ghost...
Zazz Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Zazz's guide to beating survival mode #1 & #2: Because you want those achievements right? Step #1: Play on Easy. Difficulty doesn't matter for getting credit. Step #2: Find a spammable projectile. Most everyone has one. For Sol, expect to gunflame ALOT. For Ky, Stun Edge. etc. etc. Play it safe and don't wade in like a hero. You'll die fast that way. Step #3: Plow your way through most of the enemy grunts until you get to . . . Step #4: CONVICT HAMMERS. ALOT OF THEM. Here's where the real strats come in. They are usually joined by Heaven's Libras so watch out for their range. Basically you wait for them to come at you at the starting gate area while shaving down their health until you feel unsafe, then RUN across the field to the empty area with the nice view of the fortress in the distance. Now repeat. And repeat. This will take a WHILE. Step #5: The switch up. The enemy spawn pattern changes eventually and you'll notice real fast. In Survival #1, it drops 3 Bonebiters on you. Just stay with the pattern and use those battery rods in the chests you find. In survival #2, its a bunch of Valentine's troops until a few sets of Elites show up. Just go for the repeating and be careful because you WILL get cursed and be unable to attack. Just RUN then. Eventually you'll get . . . Step #6: THE FINAL HORDE. About when you get about down to 50 kills needed left (you need 190 for Survival #1 and 500 for Survival #2) the game will drop on you ALOT of low level grunts on you at once. #1 also tosses a bonebiter in there, but with usage of battery rods and bombs, you'll be fine. Once you finish off the final horde, the mission should be complete. Note: Keep an eye out for enemies with unusual sizes (Big Bower Jrs, Small Swordsmen and Tiny Wise Men mostly). They'll drop chests when you kill them. ENJOY!
Blade Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Man..that sounds a lot more fun than Boost Mode/Judgment...
Zazz Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 i was running through Hard Story mode the real road block was, of course, THAT MAN. "YOUR REACTION IS DENSE." *dash attack* *blargh i'm dead* the diva fortress was no problem compared to him
Lou_Cypher Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Once you learn Diva`s pattern, she doesn`t become too hard anymore. Still, That Man does give me problems, it`s either I get an S rank or I fail really. Because one screw up kills us right? Or maybe three...
Mr. Jibbly Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I actually didn't have much trouble against That Man, or Diva. The trick with That Man is to not be locked on all the time since Sol walks during lock on and runs otherwise, making it much easier to dodge the firepower (especially the moving walls) and take out those assistants. Diva was really cool during the ground running, but like it's already been said once you figure out her patterns (which are telegraphed a mile away to boot), she's really easy. This is all with my experience in Hard Mode as I skipped easy and normal. However, the mission that was the bane of my existence was mission 8 "Water Drop". Holy crap I hated that mission. The prior mission Dr. Paradigm is quite effective as his troops just swarmed the balls off you, yet as soon as they make him your partner he can't even defend himself against a tiny group of reinforcements? So you gotta constantly give him your personal attention with Sol all while keeping your own base from being crushed. Gah.

I agree with you on this, but I hated this stage even more for a different reason. I didn't like the fact that this was the first real time you actually have control of the Organ. The level design sorta neglects this and doesn't ease you in any way, shape, or form—there are effective ways to teach the player and immerse them without resorting to hand-holding or, in this case, trial by fire.
purify Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I had trouble with it for several tries, but then I just decided to rush Valentine and this got me a victory in less than 3 minutes D: Don't forget you can unsummon units into your personal slots to drop them off wherever you go. Only problem with that is, as soon as you leave them somewhere, they'll start trotting off to wherever they were originally at/given orrders to go to.
Blade Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Out of curiousity, can you practice Organ use in Training Mode? I want to learn how to effectively give commands to servants (assuming I get this game one of these days). Also, what characters have to be unlocked for use in Training Mode/Other modes...I know Raven has to be purchased.
purify Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Yeah, you can do that in training mode. You can even have the CPU master fight you. Ky has to be unlocked. Everybody else is playable from the start for free missions, online, etc.
Blade Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 I really wish there was another way to get Raven though, seeing as a friend of mine doesn't use Live.

Arc Sys should make an expansion pack with more story mode and Masters. EVERY RTS EVENTUALLY GETS AN EXPANSION. also they need to make sure that ky's cape and sin's coat stops with the clipping errors. it looks silly.

In which case, you quickly switch to the Organ menu, disband that specific unit, and order it to attack the new location. All in the span of 3 to 5 seconds. This is a great early game tactic, especially for large maps.
Rinsuku Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 So uhh...GG2 on Exhibition mode is really hard... Especially when it's 2 on 2. T_T Any ideas? It's really hard to balance out troops while fighting.
