thiz Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I've gotten from "gonna main Waldstein!", to "Waldstein and Eltnum", to "Waldstein, Eltnum, Linne" and am now at "all those 3+ Nanase". First day will be spend at seeing who I wanna play the most, even tho I am sure it will be Waldstein. So I gotta decide who to sub, cauze too many characters would just eff it up too much for me ^.^
Kaori Manabe Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 game flow felt nice at evo, really excited about this game
Focusflute Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Super excited for this game!!! Need to get more ppl to play it. I am way, way, way more hype for this than Xrd.
kazukifafner Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I'm honestly surprised at the reception it's already gotten. Wasn't expecting to see so many people hyped about this game.
Sourenga Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Guess it's time I dropped something here... I subbed the beginners workshop that was held on Akihabara LL last month. It has some nice demonstrations and stuff... Pretty much goes through the basics.
Stellarcircle5 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I have all my yen ready. We are around one week away. Hold on to your butts.
Button Masher Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Is Akatsuki really as bad as everyone says he is?
Glenburg89 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Thanks a lot, Sourenga!! Could definitely use a refresher on all the mechanics
Sojoro Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Is Akatsuki really as bad as everyone says he is? Truth isn't that bad. If you read stuff from couple pages back, you'll know why. I'll just reiterate that compared to the rest of cast, he definitely has trouble getting in due to his short normals/range, but once he's in, he's definitely a force to be reckoned with. Search up Senaru's Akatsuki and you'll know why.
Angel-tastic Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I think the hardest part about playing Akatsuki is just getting in since he's the only one who doesn't have a move that hits halfway across the screen, but he seems pretty good once you close the distance though. So I'm thinking to play Yuzuriha, but I wonder how hard she is to learn. Surely she isn't as difficult as Izayoi? Also, does anyone know if she can she cross people up with her teleports?
Sojoro Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I'm not sure if the anti-crossup system applies to Yuzu, unless ground teleport? If your not new to stance canceling, then she shouldn't be too much of a problem. Maybe the more advanced techniques such as slide holding, but I don't think she'll be too difficult.
KarnoffeL Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 Agh such a huge lag between JP and US releases. It's probably to steer clear of Ultimax and Xrd but hnnnnng
GaoTV Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 So I'm thinking to play Yuzuriha, but I wonder how hard she is to learn. Surely she isn't as difficult as Izayoi? Yuzuriha isn't pretty difficult to use but takes some practice tbh it's only properly mastering her stance play is the huge major part. The cancel to 8J.c after her 236A has quite of bit of timing to it other then that, I had a pretty confusing time using her stance play. If you want to use say 236B two times you do 236B then QUICKLY switch over and hold down either A or C then you can use 236B again etc etc it's like how the wiki describes it. I can tell it will get you a little confused at first but I got use to it pretty quickly so it wasn't that bad. The Inbirth wiki help me get a nice understanding on how she worked before I even played the game that first time lol Summery Not that hard to pick up, stance changing takes some getting use to, seems a little hard to master
ZDH513 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I'm honestly surprised at the reception it's already gotten. Wasn't expecting to see so many people hyped about this game. IDK this game is doing wonders right now, in fact i'm not only gonna import it, which i have done only once before. It's also i game i plan to get really good at, gonna main Linne <3. I also plan to support my local scene from now on because i really do want to improve, right now i'm pretty bad like ehh bad. Although i know i'm bad i want to get so much better because of this game and then go to my first EVO if this game becomes an EVO game or has a side tournament. I have been following this game since it came out in JP arcades and let me tell you the Hype is real.
Surf Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Guess it's time I dropped something here... I subbed the beginners workshop that was held on Akihabara LL last month. It has some nice demonstrations and stuff... Pretty much goes through the basics. Really appreciate it. Just finished watching the video and I got down a couple of last notes on the mechanics. This time next week we should be downloading the game, get hype. I don't even have my yen yet though...

fiendmaw Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 The Japanese call option selects "grapps"? I'm pretty sure that's what they call that specific option select.
SoWL Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Do we have any screenshots/footage of the options menu? I wonder if this game's going to have damage levels, like MB.
greatfernman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I'm unfamiliar with the way they use the term 'oki' in that video, I get what they're saying, but is this a UNIB specific usage of the term oki? Or is the Japanese usage of the term 'oki' different from the American usage? Or are they actually talking about okizeme and not about throwing out active normals that the opponent runs into?

If you're talking about at around 10 minutes, I think what he was saying is they should set up a knockdown situation and show how the downed player can get out of it using the time stop.

Some of the terms are off,Sourenga himself said he's not familiar with western FG terminology. The oki part was them pretty much explaining footsies/whiff punishing.
greatfernman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 It's not dependent on Sourenga's understanding of western terminology though. I was listening to the Japanese, and it made sense because they were using the verb 'oku' which means to place or to leave to refer to (as Sourenga translated) 'leaving' the move out. And then they conjugated the verb as oki and used that to refer to it. So I was just wondering if it's a common thing in Japanese FG terminology or just a UNIB specific thing.
Sourenga Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Or is the Japanese usage of the term 'oki' different from the American usage? http://www.kakuge.com/wiki/pages/置き Oki and okizeme are two different things in Japanese fighting game terminology. They are even written with a different kanji (oku = leave, okiru = wakeup). The way they use in this UNI is correct from the perspective of Japanese terminology. I'm pretty familiar with the Japanese terminology as I translated the JP UNI wiki, but what I meant with "not knowing the terminology" was that I have never bothered to study American terminology and can't say for sure that it wouldn't contradict with American terminology.
