Star-Demon Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I really want to talk about stuff - but there's no general thread, and bogging Question thread down didn't seem like a good idea - and most importantly - I didn't see a General thread, so here's a General thread. I recently got the game to play on my own - and I'm enjoying discovering how free I am to the computer. It's really like learning all over again, and the game is really fast. I've been practicing Baiken and Jam, playing different mode with each in order to properly learn the game. Anyways: OH MY GOD I-NO. I STILL CANNOT BEAT. I-NO must be psychic or something. I sometimes do well against her to fail to two supers or not having enough tension to block one of her bullethell attacks... I've tried timing her out after securing a lead, but it seems the computer knows I want to do that, too, and never lets me. She sometimes walks into Baiken's stuff, I can tatami or just simply press 8 or 7 and then P P K j.D, but then there are times she owns my shit hard. Anji was hard enough - I've heard he has some one-frame block deal - I don't quite understand it as it was never explained... I cannot rush her down, and I can't simply block - I gotta find a moderate game to play on her, and it's gotta be tighter than what I have now. that being said - I can't wait to try this whole process as Jam. I suppose I'll be fighting Bridget. In conclusion - I love Jam's ear rape, and when Fall staarts, I'm going to have a few surprises in store for some folks. >:3
Star-Demon Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Yeah - I would just tension block #4. Thanks, actually. HAHA! But I have more of a problem of not blocking all of her stuff.
Star-Demon Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Having trouble deciding if I should play Johnny or not. I have an edge playing Jam in my group, but many I know play Baiken, and I was getting compliments rather quickly considering how DERP I can be (and promptly put down by vets - not sure they are if salty for Baiken or feeling threatened), but I'm slowly working on my Baiken and Jam through whatever Single player I can to learn the basics. Would really love to see some tutorial videos - I only see advanced fancy/situational combos. I'd rather watch good matches where someone just does hte same combo over and over again so I can mimic it. Anyways - Johnny versus Slayer/Bridget/Potemkin/Anji - Good bad or ugly?
qwerty Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 they might be dead, but the johnny forums do still exist. also: http://gg.mizuumi.net/wiki/Johnny Would really love to see some tutorial videos - I only see advanced fancy/situational combos. I'd rather watch good matches where someone just does hte same combo over and over again so I can mimic it. no tutorial videos man. search on youtube/nico for satou, suzume and jonio if you want matchvids. Anyways - Johnny versus Slayer/Bridget/Potemkin/Anji - Good bad or ugly? slayer is about even, bridget is 6-4, potemkin is almost 7-3, anji is even. johnny has no good matchups (except for arguably order sol) but most of his matchups are even or close to it. tbh you don't sound like you're at the point yet where you should be concerning yourself with specific matchups, rather with just learning your own character and reading up on the system.
Star-Demon Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) True that - It sucks as I feel like it's more of a chore learning AC+ than continuing to learn in CT - maybe because I can only play CT with others right now. Being able to Play the game with others readily is what counts most, and AC+ is just an offline console game. CS2+ NEEDS A PC RELEASE. AC+, TOO. MY MONEY IS HERE WHEN YOU WANT IT, ASW! Still experimenting what I can do with FD dash brake. I still really want to buy that Video capture device...I would love to contribute... Edited August 17, 2011 by Star-Demon
Star-Demon Posted August 23, 2011 Author Posted August 23, 2011 Got one of those pics for super-Dizzy? I'm kinda getting stuck being a new Johnny. Having a blast, though - I didn't think I'd have this much fun playing him.
Jmyster Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 (edited) Fresh blood! Ah we all have our Boss I-No stories. Fun times back in the original XX, fun times. "It goes through faultless defense? IT GOES THROUGH FAULTLESS DEFENSE!?" Boss Dizzy (Wings of Light): It has been a while but the general idea is this: Get away. When she holds her head in pain, just make sure you are a decent distance away. The attack varies depending on the distance: If you remain next to her, instant death. Mid screen has a rotating beam that might be completely avoidable (I forget). Long range has a light beam hit you directly, but if you FD you'll only take minor damage (much less than a Megalomania for instance). I never could get to tournaments so I was unfortunately never part of the scene, but Guilty Gear is a blast even playing alone, and is still my favorite fighter. Have fun. alvare Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Good fighting games will always attract new players :D So, I can't tell you who to main, you'll have to find for your own and I'm saddened to inform you that you probably won't find your main it single player games, at least I couldn't. For example, there is no joy in frame trapping the CPU, but when I started playing jam in casual matches it felt fucking fantastic, and now I main her. Oh and BTW you can play AC on your PC, and even online. Try this links: https://sites.google.com/site/ggxxaconline/setup and http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?9940-GGXX-Accent-Core-now-(actually)-playable-online! Getting it working offline is really easy, any Dreamcast emulator will do, but online is a little tricker, I couldn't get it working on NullDC, just on DeMull (which btw doesn't work so bad like they say on that second link, I have played for 2hs straight without desyncs). If you have problems with your controller, assign the controls to the keyboard and use JoyToKey to map the controller to the keyboard. Good luck!

Are you playing in the hardest mode? The cpu will always yomi you, predict your actions and, many time, counter them with painful combos (some of them you won't know they even exist). I think the best way to beat the cpu is REACTION. Try to learn how to punish every whiff (THEY ARE FEW) "she" makes, with good damage, and you should be fine. =) Usually when I get to I-no boss, I reset the game... It's annoying when you're able to punish something and in the middle of the combo she'll retreat and charge that ball-shit super lol EDIT PICK A TOP TIER jk hehe. You should aim for feeling comfortable with the gameplay + visual (its hard to play a char you find to be ugly) + strength. in that order. If you like zoning around, you would do good in picking axl. If you like easy damage, you should pick slayer. If you like grabs, you should go for Pot. I mean, each character has his own special traits in the gameplay (which is one of the factors that make GG an unique game) so you should aim for that at first. Visual is also important, because once you like the char's gameplay and visual, you'll probably feel 100% comfortable playing him/her. In my case I play zappa who, in my opinion, has the most blasting gameplay and visual in the whole game lol. Strength IMO is the third one, and if it's important or not it would depend if you plan to play the game competitively or casually. If you want to beast and win all the fucking tournaments, it would be really hard to acomplish that playing a bottom tier. IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE, but you could get really frustrated... so you should take a look at recent tier lists and look from medium tiers to above, and then try to pick someone from there. If you plan to play the game casually, then pick whoever you feel comfortable with and have a nice one. =) One last thing. I understand blazblue has online playing and that turns things easier for the players, as GG is a PS2 offline game and only a few arcades (afaik) have the game active... but don't let that mean the game is dead! there are several places in the world that still have an active GG scene (I MEAN SEVERAL, in Brazil for example we're doing tournaments and posting videos and people usually don't know that GG exists in here lol) and willing to keep it active for a long time! Love seeing new players! GG is a great game, and IT'S not dead! keep up with the good work! sorry for the crap english xD Edited December 24, 2011 by Hellscream

Dont beat on the dead horse, GG is not viable, neither for newcomers (get raped by the veterean players, and is very hard to learn) or Vets (offline meetings are rare and most likely short). Even Thanatos himself , one of the best Guilty Gear players in Brazil, admitted that and he loves, absolutely loves Guilty Gear. But, he too likes to fight, to compete, to find opponents and improve his game. That's why, unfortunely, he stopped playing GG and went on to something more viable and that will benefit his fighting spirit, MVC3. The scene is relatively big, there are tournies everywhere and you can learn, experience and play more. I'm pretty sure this drama isn't happening only here... Blazblue scene is too drifting towards that. Edited December 24, 2011 by Tong
SLeondark Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 You don't even play it and think you know something about the scene? I'm doing my best for GG here and pretty sure I'm not alone, so please don't get in the way. Go cry in a corner by yourself, don't bring other people into it.

Blazblue scene is too drifting towards that. I see your point but I can tell FOR SURE that things are getting better. By topics: - Veterans rape newcomers That may be true for veterans who don't know how to teach newcomers how to play. If I'm starting a F-game, like I was trying with MVC3, and the experienced guy rippes my ass off, I'll certainly be mad because I won't even have time to try a few moves and combos in the fight. On the other hand, if the experienced guy is patient and explains the basic, in the training if necessary, giving directions to the newcomer about how to do the BnB of your char/team and how to survive for at least some minutes... I can assure he'll enjoy playing it. And that's what we have been trying to do with GG newcomers. =) - No more offline meetings to play Look, online something that will never dominate in brazil... mainly because our connection speed sucks a lot lol. Offline meetings still take place kinda oftenly, both in casuals and championships. Not the same way they did a few years ago, but that's different from 'not being viable'. Also, players should try hard to keep the ofline scene alive, specially the internet warriors who only care about sitting on a chair and playing laggy, you know what I mean =/ - Thanatos IMO, and I believe Thana agrees with this himself, he stopped taking GG seriously a few years ago. He played Eddie, then he changed to Bridget and after that HE started calling himself a casual player. Not because he was playing a weak character, but because he didn't have the hype to train for championships anymore (personal reasons, I believe). In his city there were 3 or 4 GG players, but nowadays probably only Thana and Blackheart would make efforts to attend to a GG meeting. Some time ago, a beasting GG scene grew up in Rio de Janeiro and several top players crushed everybody in a champ called Heaven or Hell tournament. They were disapointed, because the hole top3 or top4 was occupied by members from their "group"... so they didn't really face any challenges. After that, the scene in Rio and Brazil cooled of, but didn't extinguish, and we are trying to keep it alive by promoting offline meetings and small championships, inviting players from all over the country... and we have been having success, so far. =) Also, Thanatos have been working and studying a lot lately, having even less time to spend playing video games... so I wouldn't see this as a good reference to demonstrate the GG scene in Brazil. ^^ Sleon/Nikki posted some videos on nico, and japanese players were quite surprised because they didn't expect to find a GG scene here... or to find anything in brazil besides beaches, soccer or coffee oO My point is, we have players and championships for UMVC3, SSFIV, BB, 3S... and ALSO for Guilty Gear. And we plan to keep it up for as long as we can. :D Only one last thing... this thread was opened by a newcomer who's willing to learn to play GG, so I think it's much more interesting to bring the hype than to tell him the game's not viable or whatsoever. That wasn't excactly useful, you know... just saying.
Tong Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Lol Sure, of course fellow mates. I just said that based off I heard from some players. I'm not saying that he must avoid GG and play something else. Just said that he can't expect a player-base like SF4, MVC3 or BB(sorta), where he can fight many people everyday. GG is extremely exclusive, and one must be strong to even consider learning it without giving up halfway throught. If Star-demon is up to that, then sure good luck and ggs
WolfCrimson Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Woo a GGAC+ general thread! I love me some GG. I've been playing a lot of GGAC on the PSP, and I find I'm doing quite well against the CPU. I pick Order-Sol, he's a pretty cool character. I have GGAC+ on the PS2, but I'm gonna wait till I mod my Mayflash so I can play the game properly. If you're coming from BB (and you do pretty well in it), it's like you already did almost 2/3rds of the work in becoming proficient in execution for GG, and it doesn't take much time to adjust. They're pretty similar in quite a few aspects, you just need to learn the trickier things like jump install (which is pretty easy), impossible dust (easy), FRC timings (depends on character, HOS's action charge FRCs are easy), in addition to your characters' BnBs and blockstrings.
Hellscream Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Ahm... I'm no proficient BB player (not really, I have only tested the game xD) but I imagine that the most important proficiency in GG, after you master your character's BnB and advanced combos, is like moving through the screen and mindgaming/pressuring with FRCs and stuff.... because I thing the way you make corner and midscreen pressures, and even the combo system, are quite different from BB! Not to mention that Guilty gear is quite faster... But surely, if you already play BB it'll make things easier, since both games seems to have similar styles. =)

WolfCrimson Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I'm playing GG and I'm lovin it, but there's just one thing I think needs to be improved. Burst input. Dust + any 1 button is bad, it's too easy to accidentally burst, especially for O-Sol. At least make it Dust + any 2 buttons. BB had the right idea, its burst input is impossible to accidentally do unless you were playing with your face.

Seku Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 You could easily burst by mistake if your Charge-Level-Saving or whatever his technique is called, specially on a pad.
vZakat Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I'm not usually able to get out and play with people but I still play this against cpus from time to time. I wish I was able to get out more. People not having ps2 sticks doesn't help though. >_>
