nightrider321 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Besides Sol and Ky, who would be an easy character to use for someone who is new at not only GGAC, but 2D fighters in general? And I would prefer it if the character isn't in the bottom half of the tier list rankings.
Zeron_X25 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I highly doubt Testament is easy. Slayer also has very tight links in most of his combos so I don't see how he can be easy for someone new to the genre.
zdravkelja Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I got above average with at least half of the cast and Testament was one of the easier to learn. Besides badlands loops, his combos are relatively easy. And exe beasts frc's are not hard.
nightrider321 Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 What about Robo-Ky/Order Sol? Are they as easy to use as Sol/Ky and are they at least in the upper half of the tier list?
Roldy Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Not Robo Ky, he's low tier. Order Sol is ok, but I would say Ky, Potemkin, and Jam are your best bet.
qwerty Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I highly doubt Testament is easy. Slayer also has very tight links in most of his combos so I don't see how he can be easy for someone new to the genre. It's Guilty Gear, dude. Everyone has at least a few hard combos, lol. But if you learn Slayer, you'll have an easy time beating people. You can learn basic mixups in a few minutes and be well on your way to becoming the best player on your block.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 This guy said GG it's his first 2D fighting game, and you guys already started talking about FRC? That's nonsense. Anyway, for beginning Sol or Ky, as you argued, is the most simple charachter. With easy and direct moves/strategies. I suggest you stuck with them until you are familiar with the game system, and then you can choose your charachter.

The problem is that I get easily bored with characters I dont like and wont be able to play with them for an extended period of time. So thats why I wanna get a easy fundamentals-based character that isn't boring like Sol/Ky
excelence Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 OS then, u'll go freestyle most of the time ... i don't really like Sol on ^C but Ky SE loop actually quite fun to pull.
Fenrir Werwolf Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 The problem is that I get easily bored with characters I dont like and wont be able to play with them for an extended period of time. So thats why I wanna get a easy fundamentals-based character that isn't boring like Sol/Ky When starting, mostly any charchter in the game can be used at a basic level (if we exclude some chara that have particolar mechanics like ABA or Robo-Ky) That means that every chara can make simple gatling (like P-S-H-special or Overdrive) and make some damage. At the same time, every chara have many levels of understanding and difficulty, even Sol or Ky. I suggest you try everyone a little and choose the one is most interesting/fun for you.
Squared Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Just pick a character that you enjoy playing, if you pick a top tier character just because they're top tier you won't have any fun and it's not like you'll never win if you pick a mid/low tier character, for example look at a player like RF, he plays faust who is like mid to high mid tier, but RF as a player is easily one of the best players in the world (imo), so just remember; in fighting games (and games in general) it's not the character who wins, it's the player. Players like RF and Roi win because they have such a thorough understanding of the game mechanics not because they use top tier characters(which they don't). GG as a game is not as tier restricted as most other games imo. Again; just pick a character you enjoy playing
Fujiwara Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I'd suggest doing my method. Literally play as every character until you find someone you like. Play as a character, see if you like them for whatever reason. Then maybe watch some gameplay videos. I've been playing GG for a year or two, and even now, I'm still jumping characters. So far I'm only content with Jam. And I wouldn't say Jam is a beginner character if we're talking new to 2D games in general. I'm not bashing his ability to think, but Jam requires a decent knowledge of the mechanics of GG to play thoroughly. Anyway, as everyone was saying, just find someone you enjoy, as usual Sol and Ky are real beginner characters. Every character has a deeper process to them eventually, just remember that.
AtTheGates Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 ky needs stun edge frcs which are really hard, sol needs character specific sidewinder loops. easy to learn = faust, potemkin, thats probably about it. also, tier list doesn't mean much in gg, so just pick whomever you like.
xlolxlolx Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 sol and ky are good characters to get a feel for the game but youll want to play around with all the other characters to find what who you like to play as, and ky is definitely not a character to stick with unless you really like the play style because you won't be doing much damage and most of his mixups are pretty easy to see
nightrider321 Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Darn, I just figured out there was a GGAC+(I bought GGAC T_T). Can anyone tell me the differences between the two and whether GGAC+ is worth buying?
excelence Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Well ... Order Sol super Freeze Bug're still there ... the only reason i want to play ^C+ is the survival mode... it's like playing Pokemon but GG ver
xlolxlolx Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 fixes....not really....pretty much AC with other game modes
Dream Maker Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 In my opinion, Jam, Slayer, May are excellent picks for begginners who want to get wins rapidly because of their high "accident" factor (IE they have lots of moves easy to mash with very good risk/reward ratio and that lead to devastating combos). A beginner can pick them up, learn their most threatening moves as well as some very basic combos and start winning matches here and there against a lot of people, then move to more optimized combos when he gets good. A lot of people recommend Ky and Sol because of their shoto-style gameplay. True, they're certainly not among the hardest chars to learn however they have some pretty difficult aspects to master in order to reveal their potential. A Ky players needs to push his limits really far in order to have threatening combos and oki and a Sol player needs to be really good on the risk management aspect, not mentioning sidewinder combos. It's fine for people who are just looking for Ryu-like chars and familiar characters in the first place because they fear to get confused, but I don't see Ky and Sol as good beginner choices in Accent Core at least.
zdravkelja Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Yup, Slayer is good, you'll win half the matches with pilebunker (against beginners) :D
nightrider321 Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 So today was my first day playing GGAC(yeah yeah I know I made this topic a week ago but I was too busy to play). So far, the characters that interest me the most are Jam, Potemkin, Venom and Eddie. One thing I noticed about this game is that unlike 3D fighting games(which were the only fighting games I played up until now), it is harder to find out which moves are useful and which aren't. If anyone has any advice for those characters(like which moves are good and which are bad), I would appreciate it.
Delrian Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Sub-character forums have all the information you'll ever want for which moves do what. Some are good pokes, some are neutral/plus on block, some crank the guard bar fairly high, some have good hitboxes/priority, some have good range, speed... the list goes on.
