[CSE] Relius Clover - General Discussion "American Frame Traps"

Thanks for the posts both of you. Helped me a lot, I'll work on them tomorrow!

And after 3C Corner, When I try to do the unbockable, the Buzz Saw hits low only on the first hit right? Do I just need to time it perfectly?

I actually recommend 214D + 3C for a corner unblockable. It's faster than 236D and still makes for some strong oki by itself while also making it more difficult for the opponent to jump or mash out of it. I wrote out a nice corner setup for it in one of the other threads. I'll go find the post and quote what I had written.

EDIT- Found it. It should beat everything except for delay techs and reversals (of course).

Feels like the more I play Relius, the more I'm forced to understand you're not going to hit your opponent unless you can make them want to hit buttons.

And you're not going to do that with normal gatling pressure.

This is partially why Relius is hard to hit people with. He has bad mixup, yes, but he's a frametrap character. Fair enough, but making people want to hit buttons requires doing some pressure that's unsafe as shit, and that's a risk you need to take if you want to win with Relius. 5B>waaaaaaaait 6d> waiiiiiit 6C is a legit string. Is it free as shit to DP? Yeah. But will it make them want to hit buttons or jump out? Probably. You need to make them do that so you can hit them. Relius's pressure is practically about trolling the other person into killing themselves.

Yep, that's why I started putting dumb unsafe shit into my block strings like 6C/2C/236C and hide 6D/2D in it to catch people trying to punish. Course after someone plays against Relius enough they learn to wait till they dismiss Ignis or the meter is gone to punish.

Oh look a 214A... Jump

Oh look a 214B... Back Jump

Oh look a 214C... Dp or neutral tech block

Oh look a 214D... Block High then Low fast or Dp

Oh look a 236D... Block Low then High fast or Dp

Oh look a 2D... Back Dash

Oh look a 6A... 2A

Funny story, every single time i've used 6c in a blockstring or whilst i've been hitting them, it's fatalled.

Turtle Relius is the best Relius.

Wish I had the patience. :V

You will, trust me. ;)

Anyway, what's up Relius players. :D

I finally managed to get my hands on him today, and as of now, I am starting to get used to him. Here are my notes:

  • His 236A is useful for evading attacks, such as Mu's 6C and 63214C (If it is charging, watch your timing) moves for example.
  • Thanks to Ignis, it is proven that Relius can ruin Arakune's curse game, be aware of your timing, though.
  • While attacking, Ignis can be useful for extending combos; it's best to use 6D during 5B or during an air combo.
  • Use 4D when an opponent is in the air, it is a good anti-air, and it can be helpful for extending his corner combos.

New info is good.

Day 1 Relius notes, not so good.

Put the neat matchup-specific stuff in the appropriate forum, where it can be found easily by people looking for it. Saying Led Ley owns Sword of Decimation doesn't do anyone any good if they can't find it in the Mu matchup thread.

If Mu catches on to that and charges SoD you lose a burst or a round. I ALWAYS charge that a bit if it's not in a combo.

Also, With Relius in some matchup I really take my time, frustrate them a bit, Lanto now and then when out of range. I make them come to me. They make mistakes, I capitalize.

Lol purple throwing counter happy Hakumen's in blockstrings is the funniest thing.

But seriously fuck that matchup. ;(

Thanks, I have now put the whole Led Ley owns SoD note in the Mu matchup thread. :)

My Arakune note will be added to his matchup thread later, I was told that by someone who had his first Relius match on PSN yesterday. :D

I'm having a lot of trouble getting in with Relius. I used to think Val Lanto was a great way in, before I realized if anything hit's Ignis she disappears. Val Lyra only works every now and then, and It's usually extremely easy to tell when it's coming. So that attack doesn't help much either. I read some threads and learned some nice 2D setups, from everything, but nothing that really helps me get in.

214A is the best option for getting in, canceling it into other Ignis attacks gives her armor and a solid way for Relius to approach. You have to be careful on how you approach with him though, if you come from the air, then you can be anti-aired, if you come from the ground you need to make sure you have Ignis meter left to keep yourself safe. If you're doing blockstrings you have to keep Ignis out, or else you can be punished, heavily.

In general, you need to rely on Ignis for pretty much all approaching. Don't forget about Relius' 2B > 5B gatling either, it's his longest range poking tools, outside of Ignis attacks, and if she's out you can cancel into 6D for free combos or mixups on block.

Every hit of it should be a low. It's just only a single hit of it being active if it's blocked.

Only the first hit hits low.

So, I think we need a PSN/XBL player directory for people who play with Relius.

Who's with me?

No, what to list all the frauds that are going to drop him in a week? Their's no point of those threads. If people want to find other players they can go to the online section of Dustloop.

Just for clarification, it's the first hit that comes in contact with the opponent, as opposed to only the first hit at the beginning of the active frames.

I understand.

Sorry for asking. I'd figure that since we now have people playing with Relius, I thought a player directory would be nice.

I usually never drop my subs. So I'm available for play on weekends. I'm trying to figure out this character.

How many characters do you play by the way, so far i've counted around 3. XD

If you are looking for advice or info feel free to post here. Pretty much every decent NA Relius is willing to post here and give advice except for Abelcru, 2GB, and Guardian which avoid here. If you want to play other Relius's just ask around or you are welcome to try joining my stream and play me. I'm good but I still have much to improve on like everyone else.

Ragna, Hazama, Tager, Noel in CS2 (lol), Relius now and also Platinum and Jin. I can play some other ones but I'm very bad with them.

That's bloody impressive man, most I can manage is 3 and even that's pushing it *congratulatory slap on the back*
