Wait, what do you mean in focus? You mean the camera doesn't zoom out on CRT monitors when characters jump up high or move far away from each other? That can't be right though.

I always liked CRT monitors more than the rest ever since I played Starcraft way back and noticed that it was less blurry than then new plasma monitor we had.

GGs to lol netplay tagers. counter trollfail.

BGs to FFXIII-2 fucking up my other friends Disc drive.

Bwhaha, the exact same shit happened to me. I'm afraid to play that game on my dad's PS3 and ending up messing up another Blu-Ray Drive.

Bad games are bad for PS3's.

Focus was not the best word. More like field of vision. In a fast game like bb or mvc it's easier to keep track of everyone on screen when it's smaller. I can't fight on screens when I have to move my head during a jump

i'm gonna throw up a room in 5 minutes. ppl can join but a 2+ bar is required.

Ah yeah, that's so true. I actually noticed that in Halo.

When I played on my small ass foot long TV I could instantly pick out anyone right away since it was all right in front of me. I actually had a harder time noticing things when I used my huge HDTV since when it was on the edge of my vision in the game it was practically on the edge of my vision in real life.

Your fovea is a very small portion of your eye. Your visual acuity is a lot worse as a human than many people think. Most of the surface of one's eye is made up of rods and not cones. Here's a pretty crappy test. http://www.learning-systems.ch/multimedia/vis_e02.htm

What does this mean? Buy the right sized television and don't be duped into getting a bigger one than necessary. You can't enjoy it all at once. I was hoping to find better data on the subject on the net but could not. I am also too lazy to dig out my text books presently. /offtopic

I can't play today I am going to be out of the house. Oh well. Somehow you guys will have to survive.

Another online/eye issue I have is - and I bet most competent players do - is what you look at. Offline, you press buttons and things happen. Consistently. Anyone can combo blindfolded, so knowing what is happening when you press buttons allows you to focus on watching the opponent. Doing this gives more time to react and by watching the other guy move, spacing gets better. Since online is less consistent (losing around 8-15 frames on a good connection) pressing buttons does not guarantee an attack. So I subconsciously stare at my character to visually confirm what he's doing at I think really drops the level of play. Also, I won't be on this weekend again Qq

That's not really accurate, it'd be more like on a bad connection or really far distance.

My connection to NY for example gives a ~40ms ping, which would be equal to only ~2.5 frames. Whereas my connection to CA is ~106ms ping, which would still only equal ~6 frames. My connection isn't even "good", so the people like Batousai, kurushii, jyosua for example would have even better numbers on an actual good connection. If 8-15 frames was normal on a good connection, the game would be practically unplayable at that point.

For me to get 15 frames of lag, I would need to play against someone in Korea, since my ping was all the way up to 248ms to there.

Yeah, I remember playing Street Fighter 4 and someone Coaching me and keep telling me to stop looking at my character while I play. ESPECIALLY FEI LONG.

It's hard not to look at your character.

ggs to demonwindbomb, lovebird-, laststarsavior, foreverwandering, terrorskill and was there someone else? nah l don't think so. but yea ggs

You're probably right. Also I'm not sure if saying 10ish frame loss would be more accurate on a 60fps game like sc. Regardless, I've experienced inputs not registering, and I have visually confirm everything my character does online - it's really an argument for the superiority of a small screen. And also to complain about yet another way online dumbs down fgs. Any idea what the blaz frame rate is?

Posted

Does that make you play better than when you assume your inputs won't come out online? Because I never pay attention to my character and trust everything will work out.

Posted

Whenever I try to check if my inputs hit, I end up hesitating and screwing up. You just have to assume it's going to work / hit and keep comboing. If it doesn't then you're already screwed anyway.

...Although I still check anyway most of the time, once I got used to the timing for everything.

You've beat me with patient tager a few times. Looking at the other guy seems to work for you. Granted we sometimes have a 4 bar. Who you look at isn't an execution issue, it's more like giving yourself a better reaction window since you can gauge the other guy's trajectory and read from a farther distance. Toan respects my block strings and hence is able to swat me away when I get impatient.

I'm kind of curious about Toan's Tager now. The same way a lion is about a gazelle.

One of the few good ones. If I didn't have unblockable setups I'd be 100% free.
