AeternumSomnium Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 On a bit of a side note Apparently people are comparing Ice Car to Yu's "Lightning Cycle" While I don't find it to be that bad or anywhere near as spammed, I can't help but find it pretty funny that the comparison (and this) was even made
floatwater Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Except Swift strike can low profile under stuff for free. That I find to be better
Agni Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Whatever the case, Yu's online spam it just as much.
AeternumSomnium Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Coincidentally I just fought a Yu who did it a billion times Even beating him left a bitter taste in my mouth that reminded me an awful lot of-----ice car *dun dun dun*
Starlight777 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Whatever the case, Yu's online spam it just as much. They spam it even more if you play Liz. But seriously the Swift Strike/ Ice Car comparison is just same shit, different day to me.

No wonder I see it so often then. Luckily enough, most of these yu's are not aware that punishing that move is really easy. EDIT: On the topic of this game, I really hate when people go "this game's combos are so easy". Just because YOU can do combos easily doesn't mean everyone can. I still can't even do the simplest ones outside of simple ABC combos. I can't get past like challenge 13 for both of my mains. Edited August 29, 2012 by Agni
suna19 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 So I've run into an odd situation. I was in training mode with Mitsuru against Liz and was testing some stuff against Liz's IK. Now, I know it activates after it's been hit three times, but every so often it would activate after only one hit. Has this been addressed before, or did i stumble upon something? I can't provide footage because I don't have the technology
shtkn Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 from the wiki Elizabeth surrounds herself with tarot cards in a counter attack stance. You must counter 3 hits to activate the Instant Kill cutscene. The "3 hits" requirement is cumulative. In other words, if you use your IK once in the beginning of the round, but only block 2 hits, and were to use it again later in the same round, you would only need to block 1 more hit for the IK to activate. does this explain what you are seeing?
suna19 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Looks like it. I thought I was resetting in between each setup, but I guess not. Thanks

To get through Elizabeth's and Akihiko's 30 challenges took me about 6 and a half hours of nonstop challenge mode rape. It was grueling, I imagine it's going to take long no matter what. Shit, Blazblue--Valkenhayn's, easily about 15 hours, and another 12 I think for Hazama's. (Only 5 for Relius--his combos are known to not be too difficult though) Most have agreed they're easier, but easy-easy? Nah man, nah. Also is anyone having a REALLY annoying time with Rage Quitters online? It seems like almost every 3 or 4 battles I got one. And I'm using LIZ!!! Not high tier monsters! Whyyyyyyy
Ryd' Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Tier placement has nothing to do with how aggravating it is to play against some characters. Liz can be really annoying for a few characters and people who either don't like to block or can't react to Thanatos' throw (even more so with potential lag thrown in the mix). Her flaws aren't a problem if the opponent never gets into a position to exploit them, and like most characters, she's brutally effective against people who don't know how to handle her.
AeternumSomnium Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Yeah no the Thanatos throw (Especially after the 5c) is really effective and I'm sure it's frustrating. Also those surprise lightning blasts are nasty effective too. I suppose I just figured that if they were some high tier character, they'd be worse because well, they'd trump you at every step. It's actually funny, using Liz - Aigis' (Who I hear are pretty high up) aren't super bad and I can usually stomp. But Mitsurus. . .well, she just dominates--as she should I suppose. Personally, Yosukes, Kanjis, and Mitsurus are HANDS DOWN the most horrible. I shed small tears for Liz everytime.
Agni Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Most have agreed they're easier, but easy-easy? Nah man, nah. That's my point. Everyone keeps saying this game has easy combos and here I am struggling to do even simple BnB's. Either I suck or the combos aren't as easy as everyone says.

I would agree with Mitsuru (my tournament life sheds tears on this matchup) and Yosuke, but Kanji? All you have to do is run away and use some tricks.

Grapplers are really annoying. Generally basic characters with unclear mechanics or power that is lopsided in lower levels of play cause the most people to quit games. Power does not dictate why people quit games. I'm of the opinion that the combos are still very hard for newer players, but the system itself is good because it keeps the "good part" of combos while making them as close to easy as possible to do. This is pretty ideal for a really hardcore fighting game IMO, but still not perfect. This game is a huge step in the right direction.

If they quit games because of how "annoying" a character is they need to grow a pair, suck it up, and get over it, seriously. Or stop playing altogether. If every person online ragequit a game every time they were annoyed with a character - shit, online fighting would cease to exist almost instantaneously--or at least overnight. They'll get no pity from me, they're just being female genitalia about it. Edited September 1, 2012 by AeternumSomnium

Meanwhile, in the real world, I'm telling you why this happens and it is not going to change. How about you be encouraging instead?

Surely that is how our community will grow!

AeternumSomnium Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) The female thing was a joke, my bad Anyways, I wasn't referring to new players really, I was mainly referring to people who know full well what they're doing yet are just getting mad that they lost--I never said anything about new people to the game I've fought plenty of people (A few who's gamer tag I've seen on BB online) who were just, "Well, I'm about to lose, RQ" That's all I was trying to say Christ sorry if I offended anyone etc etc Edited September 2, 2012 by AeternumSomnium

Luckily enough, most of these yu's are not aware that punishing that move is really easy.Against Mitsuru it's the only answer for 5A. Against Elizabeth, fuck it. I can either do the thing that stops most of what you do, or I can take a guess and maybe win the round. If I have meter and you block I'm in anyway.

Surely that is how our community will grow! I'm all for fairy tales, but the fact is that some people either aren't interested in support, or just don't have the time for it. It's incredibly difficult to step into fighting games at this point, and difficulty is not conducive with enjoyment a lot of the time. The fact that people walked into this game because it was continuously labeled "accessible" probably doesn't help either; media outlets should have been more liberal with their asterisks. I'll wager that you can be as courteous and helpful to new players as you wish, but you'll inevitably still have to tell them to "suck it up" once they find out the effort they'll have to put in to catch up.

Good post, you're right, and I'd agree that most new players just expect to be good without any assistance. Those players will barely attempt to learn the game, toss aside any help that's thrown at them, cry about certain things being "imbalanced" or "too noob-friendly" (*cough* fchamp *cough*) and just quit like a baby without giving it a real chance. Still, we should strive to offer them help instead of assuming they won't accept it. There are plenty of people out there who really do want to learn, and who will give up if they think the community is too hostile.
