So SMP= instatech was baseless speculation, but more importantly people hate listening to Noel talk.

Well some moves still have it so that you will instantly tech out (fuck, my Heart Car :(). So I guess some SMP moves have more untech time than others.

Sound effects and voice overs are serious fucking business, more important than discussing the actual gameplay lol. Here we have the Plat mains with this horrible Sena voice over but it's all good. I'm more concerned about her actual combos rather than pointless crap.

I actually like Sena's voice more than Luna's but hey to each his/her own.

Hey.

The screen isn't any smaller is it?

Sure looks like it to me.

It might just be because I'm watching Azrael and Relius and Azrael is super tall.

Regardless, Azrael has the best looking sprite in the game. No doubt.

Don't get me wrong; I'm definitely liking the gameplay changes.

I just think we can all agree that aside from the new moves, BB's aesthetic design has taken a turn for the worst. It may appeal more to a Japanese audience for cultural reasons, but I can't see the NA audience universally accepting this take on BB.

It didn't feel smaller when I played, but, its been a while since I've played BB.

And I think you made a typo there, as clearly Amane has the best looking sprite in the game.

no

lol at thinking that everyone can agree on an aesthetic change

i think the hit sounds are worse but the UI and such are much better imo. a lot of the current colors are really good imo. i dont like the character art quite as much as CS2 but whatever. dont extend how much your reaction to an aesthetic means further than it actually does.

I think this is the best that Blazblue has every looked, sounded and felt. But, this is an entirely subjective thing. The new sounds really pop and are satisfying to hear when you see moves landed. The new sound that Hazama's chain makes when it tries to bite you is just great.

I also probably appreciate the new sounds because arcades are loud as fuck and being able to hear stuff over the noise is excellent.

...and CS's aesthetic was universally accepted?

In the eyes of the impartial, 'Murican observer, it's all animu shit anyway. The one's who actually care enough to criticize UI changes are the same people that'll almost surely be buying the game regardless.

It doesn't change it's standing at all. It has limited appeal in the west, and it likely always will.

Those hit sound effects sound almost as bad as Guilty Gear's. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they drew influence from too.

Guilty Gear was like a non-stop barrage of firing shotguns into watermelons everytime someone gently tapped someone else on the shoulder.

I love the new voices though, even Litchi sounds less grating. The way Hazama yells JAYOUKO HOUTENJIN is totally badass too.

As for visuals, I REALLY miss CT's main menu, even if it was impractical. And I miss CT's announcer to death, by far the best one the series ever had.

I think I really like the new UI. I don't know how to phrase this exactly, but it looks more arcade-y than CS did. Elements are spaced well and meant to be noticeble. I'm not talking about the in-fight UI, I mean everything else. I have to admit though, I really miss CS's presentation for its character select and CT main menu, even if its items were huge for no reason.

To me, what stood out the most were the new stages. They seem to be a bit more elaborate in design compared to CT/CS. I'm really excited for when we'll get a chance to play this. Music was ok too, but I can't tell til we get high quality rips. SFX only bothered me for like 2 min lol.

I'm not even sure what a generally accepted "getting hit" sound IS, guys. I think "slapping pieces of meat together really hard right next to the microphone" has been a media standard for decades in games, shows, and movies. Like, go listen to the ridiculous sounds you get when people get punched in Indiana Jones movies or something.

So yeah, this is kind of a weird argument to be having.

I like the sound effects in CP. CT-CS punch sound effects sounded like kittens slapping a ball of yarn.

They use vegetables actually. Best simulation for flesh sound without actually hurting someone. Slicing a lettuce in half is how a lot of "dismemberment" sound effects were made for your horror games! (with additional audio tweaking, obviously)

You sure? I get that crunching vegetables is good for bone-cracking type noises, but for blunt hit punches (that theoretically don't break bones because FG characters are made of adamantium)?

I guess it depends on the vibe you're going for.

EDIT: A cursory google search got me this poorly written post:

"For teh punches just put a few leather jackets on top and hit em witha baseball bat. THat';s how Ben Burtt did it."

That's regarding Indiana Jones.

Personally, I think the new UI looks improved over CS. Character art... CS was better, but oh well, it hardly affects the game.

As for the hit effects, I seem to tune them out completely. Didn't notice them in CS and don't really notice them now.

Just be satisfied that Azrael's hit sounds are akin to driving a steam roller over a mountain of brittle skeletons

something I found interesting while watching a day one archived stream linked in the video thread ... they had the win counter set to best 3 out of 5.

Please tell me that's the default for the game ...
