It was said that the Black Beast wiped out half the world. Timeline from CSSMC says it emerged in Japan and went on its rampage in Eurasia before being killed off on January 1st 2110. No mention of the Americas. Assumeably, they were untouched. Of course, they were still kinda "destoyed" in the sense that seithr now covers the entire world, not just the part the Black Beast touched.

Sure but there are still mountains in the Americas like the cities in BB where people can live.

So what happened to the Americas? Was it wiped out in the BB universe?

Not interesting enough I guess. There's also no one from the Africas, Middle East, Oceania... basically everywhere that's not West-Europe and East-Asia is not included.

Likely, seithr killed mostly everyone, with only small communities living in high elevations survived. If the Dark War (and then seithr) cut contact between Eurasia and the Americas, then it's possible they don't even know of ars magus. Of course, the Americas could be thriving as well, but the game is largely focused on Eurasia.

The real reason is that Mori and the writers give no fucks. Only Eurasia (read: Japan) is important, yo.

Also don't forget the world was devastated by worldwide nuclear fallout when they tried to nuke the BB and it failed. Or maybe I am remembering wrong. Pretty sure that's why Haku freaks @ Kokonoe though.

I don't understand all things about birthplaces or anything related in BB. Some examples.

- Jin Kisaragi (a true japanese name) born in England (understandable, I suppose) and his brother birthplace is somehow unknown, yeaaah!!!

- Carl Clover ( a real anglosaxon name) but born in Austria and with all his specials and Supers in Italian. I believe that in Austria, people actually speak german, isn't it? Super!!!!

- Valkhenhyan R. Hellsing (an authentic german name) with a real german accent and some of his moves in german, you guess where he could come from? No, you can't know, it is so hard to find it out!!!!!

Sometimes Arcsys need to do as Capcom, a short understandible story for a fighting game rather than a long story that sometimes doesn't make any sense with those Far East Dramas. People looking for any reason to hate each other and fight. It is beautiful at the beginning but then it becomes boring.

I was under the impression they only nuked Japan near the beginning of its rampage.

Well, most of the birthplace info seems to have been made up on the spot, or before the worldbuilding was properly cemented (esp since postct characters generally have Hierarchical Cities as birthplaces rather than countries).

I just assumed they were born in the ruins of what passed for those areas. Doesn't mean England was supposed to be around when they named it as Jin's birthplace and only later made the Hierarchical Cities a bigger thing.

No an American character would most likely be fat or have blackface.

I'm not talking about that, the Americas can mean North America, Central America, or South America. Hell, Azreal looks Central or South American if you go by his skin tone.

And who knows, I remember a Mori interview where they asked him if he could have any fighting character from a different game in Blazblue who would it be. He said he would love to see Terry Bogard. Maybe Terry will be in the next game LOL.

You forgot to mention obnoxiously loud.

how many Africas are there :psyduck:

You know, I completely forgot about that little tidbit. Yea, most of the world was also ravaged by the nuclear fallout from the initial nuking war with the Black Beast, and then seithr only made it worse.

Yes, this is the reason Hakumen has so much hostility towards Kokonoe and doesn't approve of her methods.

Good sir, it seems you're implying Capcom fighters HAVE a story to begin with. That's why BB got so much popularity in the first place, it was because of its intricate story.

And if it really was boring and redundant, then there wouldn't be threads on dustloop dedicated to the story mode nor would there be so much emphasis on the console release's storymode. it may be redundant for you, but it is very compelling for the majority of us who regularly post and/or check this thread.

Then again it's Mori who said that. I don't even bother to read anything based on his interviews.

Oops! I actually wrote Americas first but then realised that was already covered in the word 'also', so I hastily changed in to Africas :P. I meant Africa of course.

Well, it's still not entirely known who and what Ragna exactly is so it makes sense not to reveal his birthplace yet. Valkenhayn may also come from Transylvania like Rachel, even though iirc some of Rachel's a reference to ancient (German? I don't remember) mythology, yet she's Romanian because she's a vampire. Apparently all non-sparkling vampires must come from Transylvania.

I couldn't disagree any more. This game's story needs more praise imo, it has a very decent story and I find the characters very well-written. The concept is, even though it's sometimes a bit too confusing, is handled well enough despite it being used in many stories before. Most of it is still understandable, there's just an occasional completely unexplained mind-fuck that could have been told about more clearly. Then again, it keeps the story a bit mysterious, having a predictable plot that doesn't evoke any thinking is what truly makes you bored quickly.

I think the Blazblue's strong points lie more in its characters though.

Haha it's an oldschool reference to Dracula (and what's Dracula backwards? Alucard). Transylvania was a region of Romania anyway.

From the latest BuruRaji, this is the cover for the upcoming novelization of Calamity Trigger. It looks like they're starting from the very, very beginning if Tsubaki's attire is any indication. Thoughts?

Posted

Yes. I also hope this gets translated or localized in some manner. Anything BlazBlue story related is a huge plus imo.

Posted

Looks interesting, but I wonder how much more of the storyline is going to be contributed to the franchise. As pointed out with Tsubaki's different attire I was thinking that could've made some reference to the Wheel of Fortune Drama CD.

coool but another novel we will never see translated but its good to know about it hopefully it tells how ragna met nu and the truth of his birth

It is unfortunate that the odds of it reaching us are low. With a plot as convoluted as BB, the non-Japanese-speaking audience gets hella boned by all this side stuff; at least this is CT stuff.... :sweatdrop:

Tsubaki as beautiful as always. Do wonder if her personality will be different in this timeline than she is now. maybe this novel will help answer a lot of the questions we have concerning the original timeline. But jnowing Mori, it'll just create 100 more questions and answer very little.
